  • The friction is one of the nonlinearities to be considered in the precise position control of a system which has electromechanical components. The friction has complicated nonlinear characteristics and depends on the velocity, the position and the time. The conventional fixed friction compensator and the controller based on linear control theory may cause the steady state position error or oscillation. The plant to be controlled in this study is a positioning system with a linear brushless DC motor(LBLDCM). The system behaves like a 4th-order model including the compliance and the friction. In this study, the plant model is simplified to a 2nd-order model to reduce the computation in on- line estimation. Also, to reduce the computation time, only the friction is estimated on-line while the mass and the viscous damping coefficient are fixed to the values obtained from off-line estimation. The validity of the proposed scheme is illustrated with the computer simulation and the experiment where the friction is compensated by using the estimation.

  • In [1] we proposed a method to generate a test model (GFSM) from a set of scenarios of embedded software. Each scenario describes the interaction sequences for an external input event. Although these external events are generated and accepted alternatively and concurrently by embedded software, we considered only the alternative relations. In this paper, we describe an improved algorithm to generate GFSM from concurrent scenarios, and propose methods to reduce the number of transitions in the GFSM. The first is the synchronous interpretation of message passing instead of asynchronous one considering the real behavior of tasks in embedded software. The others apply the partial order techniques to the GFSM using independent regions. We apply the method to generate a reduced GFSM of embedded software running on a digital TV.

  • The rotor blade is modeled using a composite box beam with arbitrary wall. The active constrained damping layers are bonded to the upper and lower surfaces of the box beam to provide active and passive damping. A finite element model, based on a hybrid displacement theory, is used in the structural analysis. The theory is capable of accurately capturing the transverse shear effects in the composite primary structure, the viscoelastic and the piezoelectric layers within the ACLs. A reduced order model is derived based on the Hankel singular value. A linear quadratic Gaussian (LQG) controller is designed based on the reduced order model and the available measurement output. However, the LQG control system fails to stabilize the perturbed system although it shows good control performance at the nominal operating condition. To improve the robust stability of LQG controller, the loop transfer recovery (LTR) method is applied. Numerical results show that the proposed controller significantly improves rotor aeromechanical stability and suppresses rotor response over large variations in rotating speed by increasing lead-lag modal damping in the coupled rotor-body system.

  • Reduced graphene oxide (rGO) is one of the derivatives of graphene, which has drawn some experimental research interests in recent years however, numerical research studying the mechanical behaviors of composites made of rGO has not been taken into consideration yet. The objective of this research is to investigate the buckling, and free vibration of functionally graded reduced graphene oxide reinforced nanocomposite (FG rGORC) plates employing isogeometric analysis (IGA). The effective Young's modulus of rGORC is determined based onthe Halpin-Tsai model. Four different FG distribution types of rGO are considered varying across plate thickness. Besides, the refined plate theory is used based on Reddy's third-order function. To capture the size effect, modified couple stress theory (MCST) is employed. A comprehensive study is provided examining the effect of various parameters including rGO weight fraction, FG distribution types, boundary conditions, material length scale parameter, etc. Our obtained results show that the addition of only 1% of uniformly distributed rGO into epoxy plates leads to the fundamental frequency and critical buckling load 18% and 39% higher than those of pure epoxy plates, respectively.

  • In this note, we propose the discrete model reduction method over disc-type analytic domains. We define Hankel singular value over the disc that is mapped by standard bilinear mapping. And GSPA(generalized singular perturbation approximation) and DT(direct truncation) are generalized to GSPA and DT over a disc. Furthermore we show that the reduced order model over a smaller domain has a smaller L$_{\infty}$ norm error bound..

  • We consider the estimation of seasonal cointegration in the presence of conditional heteroskedasticity (CH) using a feasible generalized least squares method. We capture cointegrating relationships and time-varying volatility for long-run and short-run dynamics in the same model. This procedure can be easily implemented using common methods such as ordinary least squares and generalized least squares. The maximum likelihood (ML) estimation method is computationally difficult and may not be feasible for larger models. The simulation results indicate that the proposed method is superior to the ML method when CH exists. In order to illustrate the proposed method, an empirical example is presented to model a seasonally cointegrated times series under CH.

  • The research on potential energy was conducted to conserve the high-exergy energy like primary energy and utilize waste heat from sewage. From the Point of view in using the waste heat, the energy Potential of waste water from the model house was simulated. From the results, when the heated water was supplied to the model house side in order to put unused energy to Practice use, heated water had higher energy Potential than unheated water, which was due to the discharge of most of unused energy. The possessing heat capacity of sewage from heated water was increased to 40-70 percents in comparison with that from the unheated water. Therefore, it can be used as energy source for improving coefficient of performance of heat pumps. By adopting the multiple heat pump into a model house, It showed that the possessing heat capacity of sewage was reduced. It was also found that the heat was recovered as energy source fur multiple heat pump in a model house.

  • This article proposes a new technique of the dynamic model using multi-body dynamic analysis tool for a flexible main spindle rotor system with a novel phase adjusting control technique for the purpose of an active control of rotor vibration. The dynamic model is used as a plant model. Also in order to make control system, a component parameters and phase controller is composed and simulated by SIMULINK. The vibration is reduced to 50%. Therefore the ADAMS dynamic model for the flexible main spindle rotor and the phase adjusting control techniques may be effective for the suppressing the vibration and helpful for the future active control for rotor vibration.

  • Numerical simulations were conducted on the gerotor type oil pump. Three oil pump models having different port and groove shape were considered. Firstly, two original models (baseline & variant.1 model) were simulated in order to validate the accuracy of the simulation results and to better understand the flow characteristics in the pump. It was found that the cavitation phenomenon as well as the teeth tip leakage is most important parameter on the pump performance. Based on the simulation results of the original models, final model (variant.2 model) which has improved port shape and pressure relief valve is suggested to enhance pump performance and to reduce driving torque. The volumetric efficiency and the hydraulic torque of the Variant.2 model is improved 4% and reduced 6.1% each at 2000RPM in experiment.

  • Nonlinear vibration of the CRT shadow mask with impact damping wires is analyzed in consideration of the mask tension distribution and the effect of wire impact damping. A reduced order FEM model of the shadow mask is obtained from dynamic condensation of the mass and stiffness matrices, and damping wire is modeled using the lumped parameter method to effectively describe its contact interactions with the shadow mask. The nonlinear contact-impact model is composed of spring and damper elements, of which parameters are determined from the Hertzian contact theory and the restitution coefficient, respectively. The analysis model of the shadow mask with damping wires is experimentally verified through impact tests of shadow masks performed in a vacuum chamber.
