  • Guillain-Barre syndrome(GBS) is one of the common motor unit diseases and defined as acute postinfectious polyneuropathy, It is not known most effective medical intervention for GBS, but generally benefits from an intensive physical therapy program. In this report, hydrotherapy was applied for a patient with GBS to improve muscle power and functional abilities. Two weeks later, the patient's functional abilities, muscle power, and physical endurance were improved without complications. Since the hydrotherapy does not load maximally to the patient with GBS, the patient can exercise himself actively for the maximal tolerance. It is the reason of fast recovery. In summary, the hydrotherapy is important to the patient with GBS and it must apply to these patients more frequently.

  • The Energy and Green House Gas target management system was launched by the Korean Government in 2010. The Korea Emission Trading System will start in 2015. Therefore, simultaneous pursuit of energy saving and greenhouse emission reduction through energy use rationalization is an important obligation of Korean engineers, who import about 97% of domestic energy consumption. Economic analysis of the GHG emission reduction methodologies registered and approved by Korea Voluntary Emission Reduction (KVER) program was conducted. The results for waste heat recovery employed in an energy intensive pulp, paper and wood industry were reported. The emission reduction intensities were 9.7 kg $CO_2$/ton_pulp production. Net Present Value analysis showed that the GHG emission reduction was economically beneficial with an internal rate return of 60%. The results of exergy analysis indicated that the second law efficiencies of waste heat recovery system employed in KVER program were 77.3% and 53.6%. NPV decreased as the exergy decreased.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of a 2-week somatosensory stimulation program on cognitive function and ADL of patients with brain damage. Methods: The sample consisted of two groups of patients with stroke: 10 patients with a mean age of 59.0 years who were treated with somatosensory stimulation, and 9 patients with a mean age of 51.78 years, who were not treated with somatosensory intervention. A nonequivalent control group non-synchronized design was used to assess the functional recovery after stroke. Instruments used in this study were MMSE-K for cognitive function and FIM for ADL. Results: The hypothesis 1 that "Patients with stroke who were treated with the somatosensory stimulation program will show higher MMSE-K score than that of the non-treatment group" was supported(Z = -2.390, p = .017). The hypothesis 2 that "Patients with stroke who were treated with the somatosensory stimulation program will show higher FIM score than that of the non-treatment group", however, was partially supported(social cognition: Z = -2.204, p = .045). Conclusion: Somatosensory stimulation was effective to patients with stroke in improving their cognitive function. These findings suggest that somatosensory input can be adopted to nursing intervention for functional recovery after stroke.

  • If an error occurs in the automatic mode when the advanced teleoperator system performs a task in hostile environment then the automatic mode changes into the manual mode. The operation by the control program and the operation by a human recover the error in the manual mode. The system resumes the automatic mode and continues the given task. It is necessary to improve the manual mode in order to make the best use of a man-robot system, as a part of the human interface technique. Therefore, the error recovery task is performed by combining the operation by the control program representing autonomy of a robot and the operation by a human representing versatility of a human operator effectively in the view point of human factors engineering. The geometric inverse kinematics is used for the calculation of the robot joint values in the operation by the control program. The singularity operation error and the parameter operation error often occur in this procedure. These two operation errors increase the movement time of the robot and the coordinate reading time, during the error recovery task. A singularity algorithm, parameter algorithm and fuzzy control are studied so as to remove the disadvantages of geometric inverse kinematics. And the geometric straight line motion is studied so as to improve the disadvantages of the operation by a human.

  • Design program was developed to determine the external shape of the supersonic axisymmetric inlet by combining conical flow solver and approximation technique of conical shock with gradient-based optimization algorithm. Inlet designs were carried out under various operation conditions through optimization with respectively two object functions which consist of pressure recovery and cowl drag and with constraints about shock position, cowl shape, and minimum throat area. New object function consisting of pressure recovery and drag of the external cowl was proposed and the optimized shapes from new object function were compared to the ones from the old object function which maximize only the pressure recovery. Through computations of inviscid and turbulent flow, was tested performance of the design program and performance estimated in design program agreed well with computation results for inlets designed under various flight conditions.

  • Financial supports of private facilities which were damaged by natural disaster are currently performed partially by a government and the guideline of corresponding recovery costs be the natural disaster prevention law in South Korea. However, current financial recovery guidelines for the damaged private facilities has not been estimated objectively so far. This research presents advanced recovery cost search and assesment methods for the damaged private facilities under natural disaster. To produce more accurate data, an investigation for practical field markets which are appointed in Kangwon area is conducted and the proposed recovery values per each item are compared to exact field market values. Finally. more realistic and accurate recovery cost guideline including evaluation and more effective market surveying method are suggested here. A theoretical and practical program for systematic recovery cost calculation is proposed and expected to be used at public institution before long.
