Face recognition (FR) has been widely used in various applications, such as smart surveillance systems, immigration control in airports, user authentication in smart devices, and so on. FR in well-controlled conditions has been extensively studied and is relatively mature. However, in unconstrained conditions, FR performance could degrade due to undesired characteristics of the input face image (such as irregular facial pose variations). To overcome this problem, this paper proposes a new method for determining if an input image is suitable for FR. In the proposed method, for an input face image, reconstruction error is computed by using a predefined set of reference face images. Then, suitability can be determined by comparing the reconstruction error with a threshold value. In order to reduce the effect of illumination changes on the determination of suitability, a preprocessing algorithm is applied to the input and reference face images before the reconstruction. Experimental results show that the proposed method is able to accurately discriminate non-frontal and/or incorrectly aligned face images from correctly aligned frontal face images. In addition, only 3 ms is required to process a face image of $64{\times}64$ pixels, which further demonstrates the efficiency of the proposed method.
Computer-assisted motional analysis is a popular method in biomechanical studies. Validation of the specific system and its measurement are fundamental to its application in the areas. Because the accuracy and consistency of a particular system provide the researchers with critical information to assist in making judgements regarding the degree to which inferences can be drawn from measurement data. The purpose of this study was to assess the accuracy and consistency of the Kwon3D motion analysis system. Validation parameters were five lengths from eight landmarkers in combination with the DLT reconstruction error values, digitizing monitor resolutions, and numbers of control points. With the best setting, Kwon3D's estimations of 260cm, 200cm, 140cm, 100cm, and 20cm were $260.33{\pm}.688cm$, $199.98{\pm}.625cm$, $139.89{\pm}.537cm$, $99.75{\pm}.466cm$, $20.08{\pm}.114$, respectively. There was no significant DLT error value difference between two monitor resolutions, but 0.27cm significant difference in 260cm estimation. There were significant differences in 260cm and 200cm estimations between with 33-control-point DLT error and with 17-control-point DLT error, but no in 140cm, 100cm, and 20cm estimations. Test-retest results showed that Kwon3D measurements were highly consistent with reliability coefficients alpha of .9263 and above.

Purpose : In-vivo conductivity reconstruction using transmit field ($B_1{^+}$) information of MRI was proposed. We assessed the accuracy of conductivity reconstruction in the presence of statistical noise in complex $B_1{^+}$ map and provided a parametric model of the conductivity-to-noise ratio value. Materials and Methods: The $B_1{^+}$ distribution was simulated for a cylindrical phantom model. By adding complex Gaussian noise to the simulated $B_1{^+}$ map, quantitative conductivity estimation error was evaluated. The quantitative evaluation process was repeated over several different parameters such as Larmor frequency, object radius and SNR of $B_1{^+}$ map. A parametric model for the conductivity-to-noise ratio was developed according to these various parameters. Results: According to the simulation results, conductivity estimation is more sensitive to statistical noise in $B_1{^+}$ phase than to noise in $B_1{^+}$ magnitude. The conductivity estimate of the object of interest does not depend on the external object surrounding it. The conductivity-to-noise ratio is proportional to the signal-to-noise ratio of the $B_1{^+}$ map, Larmor frequency, the conductivity value itself and the number of averaged pixels. To estimate accurate conductivity value of the targeted tissue, SNR of $B_1{^+}$ map and adequate filtering size have to be taken into account for conductivity reconstruction process. In addition, the simulation result was verified at 3T conventional MRI scanner. Conclusion: Through all these relationships, quantitative conductivity estimation error due to statistical noise in $B_1{^+}$ map is modeled. By using this model, further issues regarding filtering and reconstruction algorithms can be investigated for MREPT.

According to the increase of demand for diverse multimedia services, techniques to use images as the tool of information transmission have been rapidly developed. However, impulse noise affecting the reception of image and signal error occurs in the process of digitalization and transmission of images. In order to remove this impulse noise, a nonlinear filter is generally applied and a standard median (SM) filter is representative. However, SM filter degrades the qualify of overall image by error of the edge component. Therefore, in this paper, to restore the corrupted image by impulse noise, a nonlinear spatial filter based on Min-max operation was proposed and was compared with conventional methods through simulations.

Data storage related with writing and retrieving requires high storage capacity, fast transfer rate and less access time. Today any data storage system cannot satisfy these conditions, however holographic data storage system can perform faster data transfer rate because it is a page oriented memory system using volume hologram in writing and retrieving data. System can be constructed without mechanical actuating part therefore fast data transfer rate and high storage capacity about 1Tb/cm3 can be realized. In this research, to reduce errors of binary data stored in holographic data storage system, a new method for bit error reduction is suggested. First, find fuzzy rule using experimental system for Element of Holographic Digital Data System. Second, make fuzzy rule table using Genetic algorithm. Third, reduce prior error element and recording Digital Data. Recording ratio and reconstruction ratio will be very good performance
A correlation exists between luminance samples and chrominance samples of a color image. It is beneficial to exploit such interchannel redundancy for color image compression. We propose an algorithm that predicts chrominance components Cb and Cr from the luminance component Y. The prediction model is trained by supervised learning with Laplacian-regularized least squares to minimize the total prediction error. Kernel principal component analysis mapping, which reduces computational complexity, is implemented on the same point set at both the encoder and decoder to ensure that predictions are identical at both the ends without signaling extra location information. In addition, chrominance subsampling and entropy coding for model parameters are adopted to further reduce the bit rate. Finally, luminance information and model parameters are stored for image reconstruction. Experimental results show the performance superiority of the proposed algorithm over its predecessor and JPEG, and even over JPEG-XR. The compensation version with the chrominance difference of the proposed algorithm performs close to and even better than JPEG2000 in some cases.
The aim of this study was to investigate the setup accuracy for tangential breast treatment patients using electronic portal image and 2-D reconstruction image Twenty two patients undergoing tangential breast treatment. To explore the setup accuracy, distances between chosen landmarks were taken as reference parameters. The difference between measured reference parameters on simulation films and electronic portal images (EPIs) was calculated as the setup error. A total of 22 simulation films and 110 EPIs were evaluated. In the tangential fields, the calculated reference parameters were the central lung distance (CLD), central soft-tissue distance (CSTD), and above lung distance (ALD), below lung distance (BLD). In the medial tangential field, the average difference values for these parameters were 1.0, -6.4, -2.1 and 2.0, respectively; and the ${\sigma}$ values were 1.5, 2.3, 4.1 and 1.1, respectively. In the lateral tangential field, the average difference values for these parameters were -1.5, -4.3, -2.7 and -1.3, respectively; and the ${\sigma}$ values were 3.3, 2.1, 2.9 and 2.5, respectively. CLD, CSTD, ALD and BLD in the tangential fields are easily identifiable and are helpful for detecting setup errors using EPIs in patients undergoing tangential breast radiotherapy treatment.
The quantitative evaluation of DEM(Digital Elevation Map) is very important to the assessment of the effectiveness for the applied 3D image analysis technique. This paper presents a new quantitative evaluation method of 3D reconstruction process by using synthetic images. The proposed method is based on the assumption that a preacquired DEM and ortho-image should be the pseudo ground truth. The proposed evaluation process begins by generating a pair of photo-realistic synthetic images of the terrain from any viewpoint in terms of application of the constructed ray tracing algorithm to the pseudo ground truth. By comparing the DEM obtained by a pair of photo-realistic synthetic images with the assumed pseudo ground truth, we can analyze the quantitative error in DEM and evaluate the effectiveness of the applied 3D analysis method. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed evaluation method, we carry out the quantitative and the qualitative experiments. For the quantitative experiment, we prove the accuracy of the photo-realistic synthetic image. Also, the proposed evaluation method is experimented on the 3D reconstruction with regards to the change of the matching window. Based on the fact that the experimental result agrees with the anticipation, we can qualitatively manifest the effectiveness of the proposed evaluation method.

An image interpolation is a technique to use for enhancement of image resolution, it have two problems which are image quality degradation of the interpolated result image and high computation complexity. In this paper, to solve the problem, we propose an image interpolation algorithm using loss information estimation and implement the proposed method on portable device. From reduction image of obtained low resolution image, the proposed method can computes error to use image interpolated and estimate loss information by interpolation of the computed error. The estimated loss information is added to interpolated high resolution image with weight factor. We verified that the proposed method has improved FSNR as 2dB than conventional algorithms by experiments. Also, we implemented the proposed method on portable device and checked up real-time action. The proposed algorithm may be helpful for various application for image enlargement and reconstruction.

In this paper, we analyze performances of in-band full-duplex communication system and self-interference (SI) suppression methods in environment where there exists the SI signal. The SI has to be removed to achieve required error rate performance of the system in order - propagation domain, analog domain and digital domain. In propagation domain, the SI signal is attenuated by separating transmitted and received beams physically. In analog and digital domain, after reconstruction of the SI signal using channel estimates and transmit signal, the SI signal can be cancelled from the desired signal. In this paper, assuming that the SI signal can be sufficiently reduced in propagation domain, we demonstrate that the in-band full-duplex communication system can achieve the target error rate by suppressing the SI signal in order - analog and digital domain, based on channel estimates that can be obtained by the method of Least squares.
