In this paper, the reconfigurable frequency selective surface for C-band was designed using patch array and grid structure. Frequency reconfigurability was obtained by varying the capacitance from varactor diode. From the optimized design parameters, we fabricated the reconfigurable frequency selective surface using the FPCB(Flexible Printed Circuit Board) and commercial varactor diode and measured the frequency reconfigurability for different bias voltage. From the measurement results, proposed structure has the wideband operating frequency of 6.6~7.6 GHz. We can applied this proposed structure to the smooth curved surface like as radome of aircraft or warship.

A fully-integrated penta-band reconfigurable power amplifier (PA) is developed for handset Tx applications. The output structure of the proposed PA is composed of the fixed output matching network, power and frequency reconfigurable networks, and post-PA distribution switches. In this work, a new reconfiguration technique is proposed for a specific band requiring power and frequency reconfiguration simultaneously. The design parameters for the proposed reconfiguration are newly derived and applied to the PA. To reduce the module size, the switches of reconfigurable output networks and post-PA switches are integrated into a single IC using a $0.18{\mu}m$ silicon-on-insulator CMOS process, and a compact size of $5mm{\times}5mm$ is thus achieved. The fabricated W-CDMA PA module shows adjacent channel leakage ratios better than -39 dBc up to the rated linear power and power-added efficiencies of higher than around 38% at the maximum linear output power over all the bands. Efficiency degradation is limited to 2.5% to 3% compared to the single-band reference PA.
As the end of photolithographic integration era is approaching fast, numerous nanoscale devices and systems based on novel nanoscale materials and assembly techniques are recently emerging. Notably, various reconfigurable architectures with considerable promise have been proposed based on nanowire crossbar structure as the primitive building block. Unfortunately, high-density sys-tems consisting of nanometer-scale elements are likely to have numerous physical imperfections and variations. Therefore, defect-tolerance is considered as one of the most exigent challenges in nanowire crossbar systems. In this work, three different defect-avoidant logic mapping algorithms to circumvent defective crosspoints in nanowire reconfigurable crossbar systems are evaluated in terms of various performance metrics. Then, a novel method to find the most cost-effective repair solution is demonstrated by considering all major repair parameters and quantitatively estimating the performance and cost-effectiveness of each algorithm. Extensive parametric simulation results are reported to compare overall repair costs of the repair algorithms under consideration and to validate the cost-driven repair optimization technique.
Software architecture and protocols to be maintained between components for the reconfigurable SDR system is analyzed and suggest system design idea for the implementation of software. To do this, related surveys are reviews and set up the system model with the structure of embedded system. SDR system architecture is suggested with five layered structure, consisted with hardware, operating system, middle-ware, service objects and application layer. SDR system is designed to be work on the basis of Linux operating system, and aimed to be scalable and reconfigurable. It is introduced the design result of software protocol and state transition diagram for the implementations of software download function which is the most important feature in SDR.

Reconfigurable array architecture is recently attracting much attention. It is a flexible hardware architecture, which can dynamically change its configuration to execute various functions while maintainning high performance. However, pursuing flexibility and performance at the same time leads to complexity, thereby makes the mapping of applications a difficult process. There have been attempts to use compiler or high level synthesis techniques to solve the problem. In this paper, we propose yet another method, which uses libraries for the mapping to provide an abstracttion of the internal structure and at the same time to reduce the development time and efforts through the automated process. We have selected a JPEG decoder as an example to apply the proposed method. As a result, we obtained about 20% less performance compared to manual mapping but development time is dramatically reduced to less than 1%.
In this paper, a fully reconfigurable Software Defined Radio (SDR) for multi-constellation and multi-frequency Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) receivers is presented. The reconfigurability with respect to the data structure, variability of signal and receiver parameters, and receiver's internal functionality is presented. The configuration file, that is modified to lead to an entirely different operation of the SDR in response to specific target signal scenarios, directly determines the operating characteristics of the SDR. In this manner, receiver designers can effectively reduce the effort to develop many different combinations of multi-constellation and/or multi-frequency GNSS receivers. Finally, the implementation of the presented fully reconfigurable SDR is included with the experimental processing results such as acquisition, tracking, navigation for the received signals in the realistic fields.
To accommodate various mobile communication frequency bands, the study of metamaterial antennas have begun since the mid-2000s to solve the Trilemma problem between antenna gain-occupied bandwidth-size. As an adaptive reconfiguration function is required in a multi-array antenna system since 4G, the metamaterial array antenna using low-power variable elements has been used to change the basic structure of the antenna. Recently, reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS), which is made of metasurface with reconfigurability, has been studied to effectively cope with the randomly varying radio channels and be used for various purposes such as reflection/transmission/modulation. As a result of RIS-related patent information analysis in this study, it was confirmed that most of the patents are metamaterial antennas and metamaterial array antennas, but the metasurface antenna technology was in the early stages. Particularly, as the intelligent metasurface antenna is in a more initial stage, the investment to R&D of RIS is urgent to secure patent competitiveness in B5G and 6G.

In this paper, the design and analysis of a reconfigurable modular structure, which reforms itself according to the change of the environment and realize appropriate forms and motions, are dealt with. This modular is a free structure from the restrictions with constraints about fixed environment and has various forms and motions by combining units. The form of this unit has a shape of a square with 7 centimeters side each, and has a structure which can be combined in a chain-shape or a lattice-shape. Additionally, The structure has a mobility by being equipped with wheels so that it can be combined for itself. In this paper, all the wireless controllers, sensor system, and communicating method between modules according to module structures were suggested and transformation method to be transformed to shape of snakes, caterpillars were presented. Moreover, simulations for each method were performed to show the validity of the motions including motor torque analysis. All the motions suggested were realized and experimented, whereby the availability of the designed mechanism and algorithm was verified with the result of experiments.

This paper presents a new $4{\times}4$ multi-port amplifier(MPA) structure using reconfigurable switching matrices as input and output hybrid matrices(IHM, OHM), and phase/amplitude error calibration circuits. According to the mode selection of the switches, output power can be flexibly and effectively managed since the number of PA's to be used and the number of output port to distribute/combine amplified signals can be controlled. In addition, the proposed structure contains the phase and amplitude error calibration block that helps produce identical amplitudes and desired phase differences to the $4{\times}4$ OHM, resulting in optimizing the port-to-port isolation of the MPA system.

Reconfiguration and miniaturization of antennas have become key attributes in modern wireless communication systems. Reconfiguration of radiation pattern can alleviate the problems encountered in modern wireless communication systems such as multi-path problems. Physical limitation of miniaturization also can be overcome by using a zeroth-order resonance (ZOR) antenna based on metamaterial. In order to achieve reconfiguration and miniaturization of antennas at the same time, we propose a new pattern reconfigurable zeroth-order resonance (ZOR) antenna that reconfigures the radiation patterns by varying the position and the number of unit cells comprising the antenna. The antenna is fabricated in an equilateral triangular shaped symmetrical structure to increase pattern variety. This structure can easily provide eight different radiation patterns (two omnidirectional and six monopole like patterns).
