Since OFDM system suffers from high peak-to average power ratio(PAPR) drawbacks, more energy has been converted to seek for a new substitutable system which can maintain OFDM system's inherent virtues while avoid its defects. Consequently, a new multicarrier system called as CI/OFDM system has been proposed which applied carrier interferometry(CI) code to OFDM system. Due to its low PAPR advantage and orthogonal property, it has received more and more attention. Simultaneously, an old technique called single carrier(SC) system has retaken its attractions for the same purposes. This paper analyzes two cyclic prefixed transmission schemes variants of OFDM system: 1.carrier interferometry-Orthogonal Frequency-Division Multiplexing (CI/OFDM); 2. Cyclic prefixed single carrie(CP-SC) with frequency domain equalization. We compare the achievable bit rate transmission of the two systems in terms of signal to noise ratio(SNR) by mathematical derivation. We demonstrated that CI/OFDM achieves a bit higher transmission bit rate to that of the CP-SC with frequency domain equalizer.

This article investigates the problem of opportunistic spectrum access in dynamic environment, in which the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) is time-varying. Different from existing work on continuous feedback, we consider more practical scenarios in which the transmitter receives an Acknowledgment (ACK) if the received SNR is larger than the required threshold, and otherwise a Non-Acknowledgment (NACK). That is, the feedback is discrete. Several applications with different threshold values are also considered in this work. The channel selection problem is formulated as a non-cooperative game, and subsequently it is proved to be a potential game, which has at least one pure strategy Nash equilibrium. Following this, a multi-agent Q-learning algorithm is proposed to converge to Nash equilibria of the game. Furthermore, opportunistic spectrum access with multiple discrete feedbacks is also investigated. Finally, the simulation results verify that the proposed multi-agent Q-learning algorithm is applicable to both situations with binary feedback and multiple discrete feedbacks.

Many signal-processing techniques have been found to be useful in ultrasonic and nondestructive evaluation. Among the most popular techniques are signal averaging, spatial compounding, matched filters and homomorphic processing. One of the significant new process is split-spectrum processing(SSP), which can be equally useful in signal-to-noise ratio(SNR) improvement and grain characterization in several specimens. The purpose of this paper is to explore the utility of SSP in ultrasonic NDE. A wide variety of engineering problems are reviewed, and suggestions for implementation of the technique are provided. SSP uses the frequency-dependent response of the interfering coherent noise produced by unresolvable scatters in the resolution range cell of a transducer. It is implemented by splitting the frequency spectrum of the received signal by using gaussian bandpass filter. The theoretical basis for the potential of SSP for grain characterization in SUS 304 material is discussed, and some experimental evidence for the feasibility of the approach is presented. Results of SNR enhancement in signals obtained from real four samples of SUS 304. The influence of various processing parameters on the performance of the processing technique is also discussed. The minimization algorithm, which provides an excellent SNR enhancement when used either in conjunction with other SSP algorithms like polarity-check or by itself, is also presented.

The visible light communication system that transmits data by controlling light emission of LED and receives data through photo detecter is considered as one of the strong candidates of the next generation wireless communication systems. The visible light communication provides both lighting and wireless communication wherever the LED lamps are installed. Due to the feature of visible light communication system, the communication is possible within the area that LED light reaches, and the communication quality depends on the light intensity received at the receiver. In this paper, we analyze the effects of LED panel position and lighting angel on communication channel quality in visible light communication systems. Through computer simulations, we prove that position of LED panel and light angle have a great impact on illuminance and SNR of the visible light communication systems.

It is well known that the Capon algorithm offers better resolution compared to that of the FM (Fourier method) algorithm by minimizing the total output power while maintaining a constant gain in the look direction. Unfortunately, the DoA (Direction of Arrival) estimation performance of the Capon algorithm is drastically degraded when the SNR of received signal is low and thus, it cannot distinguish among signal sources which have similar incidence angles. In this paper, we propose a novel scheme enhancing the resolution of the Capon algorithm by ing all rows except the first row of an inverse covariance matrix.

In this paper we introduce the correlation-aided distributed sample acquisition (CDSA) scheme for fast cell search in IMT-2000 W-CDMA cellular system. The proposed scheme incorporates the state symbol correlation process into the comparison-correction based synchronization process of the original DSA scheme to enable fast acquisition even under very poor channel environment. for its realization, each mobile station (MS) has to store in its memory a set of state sample sequences. which are determined by the long-period scrambling sequences used in the system and the sampling interval of the state samples. CDSA based cell search is carried out in two stages : First, the MS first acquires the slot timing by using the primary synch code (PSC) and then identifies the igniter code which conveys the state samples of the current cell . Secondly. the MS identifies the scrambling code and frame timing by taking the comparison-correction based synchronization approach and, if the identification is not done satisfactorily within preset time. it initiates the state symbol correlation process which correlates the received symbol sequence with the pre-stored state sample sequences for a successful identification. As the state symbol SNR is relatively high. the state symbol correlation process enables reliable synchronization even in very low chip-SNR environment. Simulation results show that the proposed CDSA scheme outperforms the 3GPP 3-step approach, requiring the signal power of about 7 dB less for achieving the same acquisition time performance in low-SNR environments. Furthermore, it turns out very robust in the typical synchronization environment where large frequency offset exists.

In this paper, the linear source and relay precoders are designed for AF MIMO relay systems. In order to minimize mean squared error (MSE) of received symbol vector, the source and relay precoders are proposed, and MMSE receiver which is suitable to those precoders is utilized at the destination node. As the optimal precoders for source and relay nodes are not represented in closed form and induced by iterative method, we suggest a simple precoder design scheme. Simulation results show that the performance of the proposed precoding scheme is comparable with that of optimal scheme and outperforms other relay precoding schemes. Moreover, in high SNR region, it is revealed that SNR between source and relay node is more influential than SNR between relay and destination node in terms of bit error rate.

It is required to design the RF link with sufficiently stable signal margin to minimize bit errors and improve the quality of received data in the telemetry system modulated digitally like PCM/FM. In case of the vehicle flying at a high speed, the variation of the gain pattern between transmitting and receiving antenna and the fee space loss due to flight distance cause the fluctuation of link. In this paper, KSR(Korea Sounding Rocket)- III, the first domestic liquid rocket which was successfully launched in Nov. 2002 is introduced. The SNR(signal-to-noise ratio) variation of the telemetry signal which was measured at S-band ground station, the one which was simulated considering the flight trajectory, and the attitude variation such as roll, pitch and yaw are compared, analyzed, and agree very well. In addition, two virtual flying situations are simulated and evaluated-only one antenna is equipped in one case, and rocket is roll-free in the other.

This paper deals with correction of frequency offset and analysis of quantization angle noise in the IEEE 802.1la OFDM system. The rotation phase per symbol due to the carrier frequency offset is estimated from auto-correlation of the short Preambles, which are over-sampled for the reduction of noise in OFDM signals. The pilot signals are introduced to estimate the rotation phase per OFDM symbol due to estimation error of the carrier frequency offset and the sampling frequency onset. During the estimation and correction of the frequency onsets, a CORDIC processor and a look-up table are used for the conversion between a rotation phase and its complex number. Being calculated by a limited number of bits in the CORDIC processor and the look-up table, the rotation phase and its complex number have quantization angle errors. The quantization errors are analyzed as SNR (signal to noise ratio) due to the quantization bit numbers. The minimum bit number is suggested to meet the specification of IEEE 802.1la properly. Finally, the quantization errors are evaluated through simulations on number of quantization bits and SNR of received signals.
