In this paper, we present an abstract object-oriented plat-form model .suitable for the real-time distributed telecommunication system. The proposed platform is constructed upon the extended version of the real-time, distributed operating system, SROS(Scalable Real-time Operating System), that is developed at ETRI and successfully operated in the ATM switching system for several years. The object-oriented software development and maintenance methodology will resolve the current software crisis in the area of telecommunication and switching systems due to the everlasting maintenance about the huge amount of the existing software and the ever increasing needs for the better and new communication services. In general, an object-oriented software platform realizes the object-oriented methodology and possesses many good aspects like high productivity, better reusability, easy maintenance, et at. The platform is also designed to present the distributed multimedia service in addition to real-time event delivery. Recently, we have been implementing a couple of prototype bated on the proposed platform. Reflecting the evaluation results from these prototypes, the final platform specification will be determined.

In modern systems technology, increasingly more systems are anticipated to operate in real-time environment. These systems are usually complex to implement since it is not easy to satisfy the real-time requirement for both hardware and software components simultaneously. In this paper, we first review an object-oriented development process that was proposed earlier for software-intensive real-time system using the Unified Modeling Language (UML). We then study how to improve the problems that the UML approach might have. Applying the systems engineering(SE) process yields useful results which include : 1) an improved requirements management over the whole system life-cycle ; 2) a detailed scenario on how to carry out the SE process ; and 3) a conversion process from the text-based requirements to the UML-based graphic ones.

Developing control functions that operate and cooperate each equipment in order to achieve a goal is one of the most important problems in the installation of automated manufacturing systems. This paper discusses the development of a control system for heterarchical architecture and a simulator to verify operations of the control system. The object-oriented paradigm that has excellent reusability, portability, and extensibility is currently being used in many application fields as a software development methodology. Especially, UML(Unified Modeling Language), the third generation object-oriented modeling methodology, has advantages such as model generalization, clearness, and so on. In this research, software objects to accomodate the real time environments of automated manufacturing systems are modeled with the diagrams of UML. Based on these models, control software is developed as a format of pseudo-codes. A simulator is implemented to validate the developed control system.
The application areas of embedded real-time systems are very wide and so are the requirements for real-time processing and reliability of the systems. To develop embedded real-time systems effectively with its real-time and reliability properties guaranteed, an appropriate real-time model is needed. Recently, the research on real-time object-oriented model is active, which graft the concept of object-orientation on real-time systems modeling and development. In this paper, we propose dRTO (dependable Real-Time Object) model, with 5 primitive classes. These allow designers to effectively model the characteristics of real-time systems, i.e., object-orientation, real-time-ness and dependability. The dRTO model has three main features. First, it is able to model and implement the timing constraints imposed on real-time objects as well as interactions among the objects. Second, hardware and software components (including kernel) of embedded systems can be modeled in one frame. Third, it is able to represent fault detection and recovery mechanisms explicitly.

Advanced digital computer technology enables the computer-based controllers to replace the traditional analog controllers used in factory automations. This replacement, however, brings up the side effects caused by the quantization error and non-real-time execution of control software. This paper describes the structure of real-time simulator and controller that can be used for design and verification of real-time digital controllers. The virtual machine concept adopted by the proposed real-time simulator makes the proposed simulator be independent from the specific hardware platforms. The proposed system can also be used in the loosely coupled distributed environments connected through local area network using real-time message passing algorithm and virtual data table based on the shared memory mechanism.
This paper is introduced about Design driven testing, for real time system, based on use case approaches, We focuses on a part of an extended use case approach for real time software development, which partitions design schema into layered design component architecture of functional components called "design component", We developed a use case action matrix to contain a collection of related scenarios each describing a specific variant of an executable sequence of use case action units, which reflected the behavioral properties of the real time system design, in this paper, we attempt to apply real time system with design driven testing with test plan metrics which is introduced which produces an ordering of this scenario set to enhance productivity and both promote and capitalize on test case reusability of existing scenarios.scenarios.

Driving simulators provide engineers with a power tool in the development and modification stages of vehicle models. One of the most important factors to realistic simulations is the fidelity obtained by a motion bed and a real-time visual image generation algorithm. Virtual reality technology has been widely used to enhance the fidelity of vehicle simulators. This paper develops the virtual environment for such visual system as head-mounted display for a vehicle driving simulator. Virtual vehicle and environment models are constructed using the object-oriented analysis and design approach. Based on the object model, a three-dimensional graphic model is completed with CAD tools such as Rhino and Pro/ENGINEER. For real-time image generation, the optimized IRIS Performer 3D graphics library is embedded with the multi-thread methodology. The developed software for a virtual driving simulator offers an effective interface to virtual reality devices.
The dynamic cast operation allows flexibility in the design and use of data management facilities in object-oriented programs. Dynamic cast has an important role in the implementation of the Data Management Services (DMS) of the Mission Data System Project (MDS), the Jet Propulsion Laboratory's experimental work for providing a state-based and goal-oriented unified architecture for testing and development of mission software. DMS is responsible for the storage and transport of control and scientific data in a remote autonomous spacecraft. Like similar operators in other languages, the C++ dynamic cast operator does not provide the timing guarantees needed for hard real-time embedded systems. In a recent study, Gibbs and Stroustrup (G&S) devised a dynamic cast implementation strategy that guarantees fast constant-time performance. This paper presents the definition and application of a cosimulation framework to formally verify and evaluate the G&S fast dynamic casting scheme and its applicability in the Mission Data System DMS application. We describe the systematic process of model-based simulation and analysis that has led to performance improvement of the G&S algorithm's heuristics by about a factor of 2. In this work we introduce and apply a library for extracting semantic information from C++ source code that helps us deliver a practical and verifiable implementation of the fast dynamic casting algorithm.
The demands of increasingly complicated software have led to the proliferation of object-oriented design methodologies in embedded systems. To execute a system designed with objects in target hardware, a task set should be derived from the objects, representing how many tasks reside in the system and which task processes which event arriving at an object. The derived task set greatly influences the responsiveness of the system. Nevertheless, it is very difficult to derive an optimal task set due to the discrepancy between objects and tasks. Therefore, the common method currently used by developers is to repetitively try various task sets. This paper proposes Scenario-based Implementation Synthesis Architecture (SISA) to solve this problem. SISA encompasses a method for deriving a task set from a system designed with objects as well as its supporting development tools and run-time system architecture. A system designed with SISA not only consists of the smallest possible number of tasks, but also guarantees that the response time for each event in the system is minimized. We have fully implemented SISA by extending the ResoRT development tool and applied it to an existing industrial PBX system. The experimental results show that maximum response times were reduced $30.3\%$ on average compared to when the task set was derived by the best known existing methods.

If there is redeveloping into the system applying the object-oriented paradigm, productivity Improvement of software through reuse would be accomplished and maintenance cost be reduced. When a procedure-oriented system is transformed to a type applying the object-oriented paradigm, various techniques are studied to extract objects from source code automatically or semi-automatically. However, it is not easy to extract conceptuat objects when those techniques are applied, This problem entails another problem which drops the conceptual integrity of the extracted objects. In this paper, we suggest an object extraction method and tool development to resolve the problem occurring at the time when thc pr"~r"m, dcveloped through procedure-oriented is transformed to an object-oriented system. The suggested method allow to extract the desired objects using object modeling for various application domains of the real world given source code and design recovery information. During the extraction process, functionality and global variables of the source code as well as its intcrface arc rigorously analyzed. This process can enhance the conceptual integrity of the objects and make easy to construct class hierarchies.
