  • Radio frequency identification system (RFID) is an automatic technology and aids machines or computers to identify objects, record metadata or control individual target through radio waves. Connecting RFID reader to the terminal of Internet, the readers can identify, track and monitor the objects attached with tags globally, automatically, and in real time, if needed. This is the so-called Internet of Things (IoT). RFID is often seen as a prerequisite for the IoT. This paper introduces amd surveyed the technologies of RFID and IoT, discusses the applications and challenges of RFID technology used in IoT.

  • The ISO 18000-7 Active RFID standard, a single channel system operating in the 433Mhz, faces technical difficulties in supporting some recently introduced application demands because of its low transmission rates and radio interference between readers. We propose a new multi-channel active RFID system operating in the 2.4Ghz. The special feature of the proposed system is that a reader makes use of multiple interfaces to improve its performance like a multi-core processor. However if only a small part of interfaces are actually used, the performance improvement would not meet the expectation. To overcome this problem, a new multi-channel multi-interface active RFID protocol, which balances communication loads among all available interfaces, is necessary. 3 protocols, named as "Aggregated", "LP-Combined", "AP-Balanced", are proposed. Through simulation, we compare them for various conditions by changing number of tags, number of interfaces, tag data size. AP-Balanced shows the best performance and its performance increases almost linearly as the number of interface increases, which meets our expectation.

  • On the wireless-communication between Electronic Tag of RFID system and Reader, there are some existing problems with weaknesses of security such as spoofing, replay, traffic analysis, position tracking, etc., in the established hash-lock related algorithm. This paper has presented the comparison and analysis of the established hash-lock related algorithm for privacy and in order to make up for this, also suggested a new security authentication algorithm based on hash which has an authentication protocol and creates hash function by using random numbers received from the reader on real-time and every session. The algorithm suggested is able to make RFID wireless authentication system offer a several of usefulness and it has an advantage to reduce the amount of calculations compared to established algorithm. It also uses just the tags needed among a lot of tags around which are expected later and it is expected to reduce a responsibility of the server by ending unnecessary tags' action with time based.

  • The RFID system has the security problem of location tracking and user privacy. In order to solve this problem, the cryptographic access method using hash function is difficult to in real applications. Because there is a limit of computing and storage capacity of Tag, but the safety is proved. The lightweight authentication methods like HB and LMAP guarantee the high efficiency, but the safety is not enough to use. In this paper, we use the AES for RFID Authentication, and solve the problem of using fixed key with key change step by step. The symmetric keys of the tag and server are changed by the random number generated by tag, reader and server successively. This could prevent the key exposure. As a result, the output of the tag and reader always changes. These key changes could make it possible to prevent eavesdropping, replay attack, location tracking and spoofing.

  • Nowadays, low-cost radio frequency identification (RFID) technique, is recognizable without the physical contact between the reader and the tag, has been attracting more and more interests from both industry and academic institutes. however, it causes the serious privacy infringement such as excessive information exposure and user's location information tracking due to the wireless characteristics. The security problem of read only tag can be only solved by physical method. In this paper, we propose a low-cost authentication protocol which can be adopted for read-only RFID tag using XOR and Partial ID. The proposed protocol is secure against reply attacking, eavesdropping and spoofing attacking so that avoiding the location privacy exposure

  • In recent, the contactless IC card is widely used in traffic, access control system and so forth. Contactless smart cards use a technology that enables card readers to provide power for transactions and communications without making physical contact with the cards. Usually electromagnetic signal is used for communication between the card and the reader. Contactless card is highly suitable for large quantity of card access and data transaction. And its use becomes a general tendency more and more because of the development of RF technology and improvement of requirement for user convenience. This paper describes the hardware module to process contactless protocol for implementation contactless IC card. And the hardware module consists of specific digital logic circuits that analyze digital signal from analog circuit and then generate data & status signal for CPU, and that convert the data from CPU into digital signal for analog circuit.

  • The PS algorithm divides the tags within the identification range of reader into smaller groups by increasing the transmission power incrementally and identifies them. In 13.56MHz RFID system of Auto-ID center, STAC protocol is defined as an anti-collision algorithm for multiple tag reading. In this paper, we propose a STAC/PS algorithm that the PS algorithm is applied in the STAC protocol. The simulation results show that the STAC/PS algorithm can achieve faster tag identification speed compared with STAC protocol due to the low collision rate.

  • This paper presents the VHDL implementation procedure of the passive RFID tag in Ultra High Frequency RFID system. The operation of the tag compatible with the EPCglobal Class1 Generation2(GEN2) protocol is verified by timing simulation after synthesis and implementation on prototyping board. Due to the reading range with relatively large distance, a passive tag needs digital processor which facilitates faster decoding, encoding and state transition for enhancement of the interrogation rate. Also with UART communication, verify a inventory Round in Gen2 Protocol. The verification results with the fastest data rate, 640kbps, and multi tags environment scenario show that the implemented tag spend 1.4ms transmitting the 96bits EPC to reader.

  • The recently proposed RFID(Radio Frequency Identification) authentication protocol based on a hash function can be divided into two types according to the type of information used for authentication between a reader and a tag: either a value fixed or one updated dynamically in a tag memory. In this paper, we classify the protocols into a static ID-based and a dynamic-ID based protocol and then analyze their respective strengths and weaknesses. Also, we define a new security model including forward/backward traceability, synchronization, forgery attacks. Based on the model, we analyze the previous protocols and propose a new dynamic-ID based RFID mutual authentication protocol. Our protocol provide enhanced RFID user privacy compared to previous protocols and identify a tag efficiently in terms of the operation quantity of a tag and database.
