In this study, the behaviors of Fe selective chlorination in ilmenite ore by using PVC or $CO-Cl_2$ gas mixture as reducing agents under the condition of 1173 K, for 60 minutes were investigated. The weight loss ratio was 28% when PVC was applied as the reducing agent. The condensate formed at the outlet of reaction tube was identified as $FeCl_2$ by X-ray diffraction analysis. From these results, it was observed that iron in ilmenite ore reacted with HCl gas and Fe was selectively removed in the form $FeCl_2$. However, when $CO-Cl_2$ gas mixture was used as a reducing agent, the weight reduction ratio was 54%, and the condensate formed at the outlet of reaction tube after the experiment was estimated to be $FeCl_3$. It was observed that the ilmenite ore reacted with the $CO-Cl_2$ gas mixture and was simultaneously removed in the form of $FeCl_3$ and $TiCl_4$. However, the results of X-ray diffraction of ilmenite ore after the reaction showed that Fe was almost removed.
In SNG (synthetic natural gas) process by proposed RIST(Research Institute of Industrial Science & Technology)-IAE(Institute for Advanced Engineering) (including three adiabatic reactors and one isothermal reactor), the methanation reaction and water gas shift (WGS) reaction take place simultaneously, and the supply of steam with syngas might control the temperature in catalyst bed and deactivate the catalyst. In this study for development of SNG process, the characteristics of the methanation reaction with a Ni-based catalyst by prepared RIST and using a low $H_2/CO$ mole ratio (including $CO_2$ 22%) are evaluated. The operating conditions ($H_2O/CO$ ratio of the $1^{st}$ adiabatic reactor, operating temperature range of $4^{th}$ isothermal reactor, etc.) were reflected the results from previous studies and in the same condition a pilot scale SNG process is carried out. As a results, the pilot scale SNG process is stable and the CO conversion and $CH_4$ selectivity are 100% and 96.9%, respectively, while the maximum $CH_4$ productivity is $660ml/g_{cat}{\cdot}h$.
Xylene is a hazardous volatile organic compound that should be precisely measured to monitor indoor air quality. However, the selective and sensitive detection of ppm-level xylene using oxide-semiconductor gas sensors remains a challenge. In this study, pure and Cr-doped Co3O4 nanoparticles (NPs) were prepared using flame spray pyrolysis, and their gas-sensing characteristics to 5-ppm xylene at 250 ℃ were investigated. The 4 at% Cr-doped Co3O4 NPs exhibited a high gas response to 5-ppm xylene (resistance ratio to gas and air = 39.1) and negligible cross-responses to other representative and ubiquitous indoor pollutants such as ethanol, benzene, formaldehyde, carbon monoxide, and ammonia. In this paper, the enhancement of the gas response and selectivity of Co3O4 NPs to xylene by Cr doping was discussed in relation to the catalytic promotion of the gas-sensing reaction. This sensor can be used to monitor indoor xylene.
Gas sensors based on metal oxide semiconductors are used in numerous applications including monitoring indoor air quality and detecting harmful substances like volatile organic compounds. Nanostructures, for example, nanoparticles, nanotubes, nanodomes, and nanofibers have been widely utilized to improve gas sensing properties of metal oxide semiconductors, and this increases the effective surface area, resulting in participation of more target gas molecules in the surface reaction. In the recent times, 1-dimensional (1D) metal oxide nanostructures fabricated using anodic oxidation have attracted great attention due to their high surface-to-volume ratio with large-area uniformity, reproducibility, and capability of synthesis under ambient air and pressure, leading to cost-effectiveness. Here, we provide a brief overview of 1D metal oxide nanostructures fabricated by anodic oxidation and their gas sensing properties. In addition, recent progress on thin film-based anodic oxidation for application in gas sensors is introduced.

In this study, (Ba, Sr)$TiO_3$ thin films were etched with $Cl_2$/Ar gas mixing ratio in an inductively coupled plasma (ICP) by varying the etching parameter such as rf power, dc bias voltage, and chamber pressure. The etch rate was 56 nm/min under $Cl_2$/($Cl_2$+Ar) gas mixing ratio of 0.2, rf power of 600 W, dc bias voltage of 250 V, and chamber pressure of 5 mTorr. At this time, the selectivity of BST to Pt, $SiO_2$ was respectively 0.52, 0.43. The surface reaction of the etched (Ba, Sr)$TiO_3$ thin films was investigated with X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). Ba is removed by chemical reaction between Sr and Cl to remove Sr. Ti is removed by chemical reaction such as $TiCl_4$ with ease. The results of secondary ion mass spectrometer (SIMS) analysis compared with the results of XPS analysis and the results were the same.
The partial oxidation of methane is one of important processes for hydrogen production. As a membrane reactor, palladium-silver (Pd-Ag) alloy membrane prepared by electroless plating technique was employed for partial oxidation of methane. The experimental variables were reaction temperature, $O_2/CH_4$ mole ratio, $CH_4$ feed rate, and $N_2$ sweep gas flow rate. The methane conversions increased with the reaction temperatures in the range of 350 to $730^{\circ}C$. The highest methane conversion and CO selectivity were obtained at the condition of $O_2/CH_4$ mole ratio of 0.5 and $730^{\circ}C$ using commercially available nickel/alumina catalyst. The Pd-Ag membrane reactor showed higher methane conversions, 10~40% higher, compared to those in a traditional reactor.

In this study, the experiment of CO production was performed using carbon dioxide and coal. The synthesis characteristics of CO gas was investigated using the chemical activation method of KOH. The preparation process has been optimized through the analysis of experimental variables such as activating chemical agents to coal ratio, the flow rate of gas and reaction temperature during $CO_2$ conversion reaction. Without the catalyst of KOH, the 66.7% of $CO_2$ conversion was obtained at the conditions of $T=950^{\circ}C$ and $CO_2$ flow rate of 300 cc/min. On the other hand, the 98.1% of $CO_2$ conversion was obtained using catalyst of KOH at same conditions. It was found that the feed ratio(Coal : KOH = 4 : 1) had better $CO_2$ conversion and CO selectivity than other feed ratios.

High temperature co-electrolysis of H2O-CO2 mixtures using solid oxide cells has attracted attention as promising CO2 utilization technology for production of syngas (H2/CO), feedstock for E-fuel synthesis. For direct supply to E-fuel production such as hydrocarbon and methanol, the outlet gas ratio (H2/CO/CO2) of co-electrolysis should be controlled. In this work, current voltage characteristic test and product gas analysis were carried out under various reaction conditions which could attain proper syngas ratio.

Cu/Mn/Ce catalysts for water gas shift (WGS) reaction were synthesized by urea-nitrate combustion method with the fixed molar ratio of Cu/Mn as 1:4 and 1:1 with the doping concentration of Ce from 0.3 to 0.8 mol%. The prepared catalysts were characterized with SEM, BET, XRD, XPS, $H_2$-TPR, $CO_2$ TPD, $N_2O$ chemisorption analysis. The catalytic activity tests were carried out at a GHSV of $28,000h^{-1}$ and a temperature range of 200 to $400^{\circ}C$. The Cu/Mn(CM) catalysts formed Cu-Mn mixed oxide of spinel structure ($Cu_{1.5}Mn_{1.5}O_4$) and manganese oxides ($MnO_x$). However, when a small amount of Ce was doped, the growth of $Cu_{1.5}Mn_{1.5}O_4$ was inhibited and the degree of Cu dispersion were increased. Also, the doping of Ce on the CM catalyst reduced the reduction temperature and the base site to induce the active site of the catalyst to be exposed on the catalyst surface. From the XPS analysis, it was confirmed that maintaining the oxidation state of Cu appropriately was a main factor in the WGS reaction. Consequently, Ce as support and dopant in the water gas shift reaction catalysts exhibited the enhanced catalytic activities on CM catalysts. We found that proper amount of Ce by preparing catalysts with different Cu/Mn ratios.

Combustion of gaseous fuel combustor in a high temperature vitiated air stream was studied with computer simulation. It is for application to afterburner of gas turbine engine which the exact mechanism is not yet clarified. As the jet velocity from fuel nozzle is very high and the geometry of combustor is three dimensional complex structure, many time and money are required to have good results. To consider this demerit, it is simplified to 2-dimensional and modified with the nozzle hole area to same area of annual status. As the thickness of annual is too thin, it is to divide with the many grids for reasonable results. Accordingly, new method which injected fuel mass, momentum and energy are added to source terms of each governing conservation equation as a source terms is introduced like as two phase analysis. Reaction rate is determined by taking into account the Arrhenius reaction based on a single step reaction mechanism. It is focused to temperature and product concentration distribution at each equivalence ratio of inlet hot product.
