Empirical Analysis of a Fine-Tuned Deep Convolutional Model in Classifying and Detecting Malaria Parasites from Blood Smears

  • In this work, we empirically evaluated the efficiency of the recent EfficientNetB0 model to identify and diagnose malaria parasite infections in blood smears. The dataset used was collected and classified by relevant experts from the Lister Hill National Centre for Biomedical Communications (LHNCBC). We prepared our samples with minimal image transformations as opposed to others, as we focused more on the feature extraction capability of the EfficientNetB0 baseline model. We applied transfer learning to increase the initial feature sets and reduced the training time to train our model. We then fine-tuned it to work with our proposed layers and re-trained the entire model to learn from our prepared dataset. The highest overall accuracy attained from our evaluated results was 94.70% from fifty epochs and followed by 94.68% within just ten. Additional visualization and analysis using the Gradient-weighted Class Activation Mapping (Grad-CAM) algorithm visualized how effectively our fine-tuned EfficientNetB0 detected infections better than other recent state-of-the-art DCNN models. This study, therefore, concludes that when fine-tuned, the recent EfficientNetB0 will generate highly accurate deep learning solutions for the identification of malaria parasites in blood smears without the need for stringent pre-processing, optimization, or data augmentation of images.

학습순서 결정에서 지능관점과 조절초점의 영향 (Effect of Regulatory focus and Theory of Intelligence in the order of learning)

  • 학습 상황에서 개인의 내적 특성은 다양한 방식으로 학습행동에 영향을 준다. 특히 '동기'는 학습자의 목표 설정하 및 전략 선택에 영향을 주는 핵심적인 요소이다. 본 연구는 학습자의 목표지향이 학습 시간 분배 방식에 어떠한 영향을 미치는가를 확인하였다. 참가자들의 목표지향 상태를 달리하기 위하여 관련 변인인 조절초점(regulatory focus)과 지능관점(theories of intelligence)을 측정 및 조작하여 집단을 구분하였다. 두 변인은 각각 접근-회피전략(조절초점에 따른 동기 성향)과 숙달-수행지향적 태도(지능관점에 따른 동기)를 유발하며 학습자의 목표지향(goal orientation) 형성에 영향을 주는 핵심적인 변인으로 알려져 왔다. 실험에서 조절초점은 성향검사점수를 기준으로 두 집단으로 구분하였으며, 조작을 통해 지능관점의 차이를 일시적으로 유발하여 두 변인 간의 상호작용을 확인하였다. 참가자들은 일련의 스페인어-한국어 단어 쌍을 학습한 후 재학습하고 싶은 항목을 선택하여 자유롭게 학습순서를 결정할 수 있었다. 단어 쌍은 어렵거나 쉬운 항목들로 구성되어 있었으며, 학습자들은 원한다면 같은 단어를 여러 번 학습할 수 있었다. 결과에서, 조절초점과 지능관점에 따라 학습 초반에 어려운 단어를 선택하는 비율의 상호작용 효과가 나타났다. 즉, 향상초점-증진조건의 참가자들은 향상초점-불변조건의 참가자들에 비해 학습 초반에 어려운 단어를 배치하는 비율이 높았으며, 예방초점인 학습자들은 지능관점의 영향을 받지 않았다. 이러한 결과는 학습자의 목표지향에 따라 학습 전략을 세우는 방식이 다를 수 있음을 보여준다.

  • 본 본 연구의 현실은 인체 미술의 발전 추세에 따라 미용인들 사이에서 아트 메이크업과 반영구 화장 등이 뷰티 산업의 유망산업으로 부각 되고 있으며, 시간이 지날수록 전문기술 향상에 대한 인식이 점차 높아지고 있다는 점이다. 이에 따라 미용 산업을 전공하거나 반영구 화장을 배우는 미용사들 사이에서 뿐만 아니라 많은 미용기술을 배우는 뷰티 학원에서도 반영구 화장에 대한 관심이 높아지고 있으며, 이러한 트렌드 기술은 국제 미용대회에서 홍보되고 있다. 반영구적 기술을 전문으로 하는 미용 기술자를 대상으로 기술대회를 개최합니다. 교육에 관한 정보교류의 장으로서 교육제도의 확산 등 시너지 효과를 기대할 수 있을 것으로 기대됩니다. 우리나라의 급속한 산업발전은 산업발전에 따른 전문·세부기능인력의 수급과 기술 수준 측면에서 인력형성에 큰 변화를 가져왔고, 이로 인해 미용사의 기술 및 전문기술이 향상 되어 왔다. 미용사 전문교육자격의 우수성과 높은 기술평가. 이는 자기계발에 큰 영향을 미쳤으며 숙련된 기술을 달성하기 위한 노력의 중요성을 재인식하게 될 것으로 기대한다.

A Revisit to the Recent Human Error Events in Nuclear Power Plants Focused to the Organizational and Safety Culture

  • Objective: This paper presents additional considerations related to organization and safety culture extracted from recent human error incidents in Korea, such as station blackout(i.e., SBO) in Kori#1. Background: Safety culture has been already highlighted as a major cause of human errors after 1986 Chernobyl accident. After Fukushima accident in Japan, the public acceptance for nuclear energy has taken its toll. Organizational characteristics and culture became elucidated as a major contributor again. Therefore many nuclear countries are re-evaluating their safety culture, and discussing any preparedness and its improvement. On top of that, there was an SBO in 2012 in the Kori#1. Korean public feels frustrated due to the similar human errors causing to a catastrophe like Fukushima accident. Method: This paper reassesses Japan's incidents, and revisits Korea's recent incidents. It focuses on the analysis of the hazards rather than the causes of human errors, the derivation of countermeasures, and their implementation. The preceding incidents and conclusions from Japanese experience are also re-analyzed. The Fukushima accident was an SBO due to the natural disaster such as earthquakes and a successive tsunami. Unlike the Fukushima accident, the Kori#1 incident itself was simple and restored without any loss and radioactive release. However, the fact that the incident was deliberately concealed led to massive distrust. Moreover, the continued violation of rules and organized concealment of the accident are serious signs of a new distorted type of human errors, blatantly revealing the cultural and fundamental weakness of the current organization. Result: We should learn from Japanese experiences who had taken pride in its safety technology and fairly high confidence in safety culture. Japan's first criticality accident in JCO facility splashed cold water on that confidence. It has turned out to be a typical case revealing the problems in the organization and safety culture. Since Japan has failed to gain lessons and countermeasure, the issue persists to the Fukushima incident. Conclusion: Safety culture is not a specific independent element, which makes it difficult to either evaluate it properly or establish countermeasures from the lessons. It may continue to expose similar human errors such as concealment of incident and manipulation of bad data. Application: Not only will this work establish the course of research for organization and safety culture, but this work will also contribute to the revitalization of Korea's nuclear industry from the disappointment after the export contract to UAE.

The Study on Creative Tutoring Service Design to Improve Self-presentation and Learning Abilities for Kids Focusing on Visual Association and Storytelling

  • Objective: The goal of this study is to design a creative tutoring service, which helps children gain confidence and creativity through learning activities. Background: Nowadays most kids are growing up in a very competitive environment under their parents' zeal for education. A stressful environment can deter a child from the confident undertaking of challenges, leading to depression, anxiety, and feelings of inadequacy. Art therapy helps children work through these issues, however the process led by instructors or parents, and kids still feel anxious studying adults' face to read their thought. Method: To help children address challenges, a creative tutoring service application can provide images with certain tasks instead of asking them to fill in blank areas. The tasks asked by the service system are 1) to visualize children's own experience utilizing visually associated images from given images and 2) to create an illustrated story modifying and re-composing given images. Another task is to learn basic math and words with numbers and alphabets in customized colors. By completing each task children collect awards, which allow them graduate to higher levels of challenges. The outcomes from the tasks are sent to the main server system and reviewed by analysts. Those results are sent to children's parents as a text message on smart phone. Results: Visual implication using images inspires children to make creative stories based on their own experience. Also, children can find their own patterns of reaching answers by using synaesthetic imagery through repetitive practices of creative thinking tasks. Conclusion: Understanding how they feel about doing tasks in certain environments and assessing them in varied situations should be carefully considered when designers approach service design for kids. By focusing on how to tutor children in creative ways, as opposed to focusing on the expected outcome, creative service applications can be designed to reduce children's stress and encourage self expression. Children are predicted to gain confidence through using the service without the concern of comparison by others. Application: The creative tutoring service needs to be developed and tested by varying types of children.

초등학교 과학수업에서 EBS 교육방송 클립뱅크를 활용하는 전략의 개발과 적용 (The Development and Application of Teaching Strategies using EBS Clipbank in Elementary Science Class)

  • The purpose of this study is to further develop the strategies using EBS clipbank service and investigate the their effects of the science academic emotion on the student's attitude toward science. Clipbank is service for educational purpose. EBS provides clipbank that holds about 210,000 video clips made from EBS programs. Two class of 6th grade were selected and instructed. Implementing and using the teaching strategies, a test was administered to examine the science academic emotion of the students effects using clipbank teaching. It had two rounds for inspection about operation of the strategies with curriculum. In the second research, by re-supplying a more sophisticated program strategy from first in putting feedback. The result of analyzing the test was as follows. First, elementary teachers can be used in class to take advantage of a variety of educational materials clipbank contents. Result of teachers survey, clipbank teaching was effective and teachers who using clipbank service will be the continue utilize clipbank. Second, the strategy for using clipbank teaching was effective on student's science academic emotion. And strategy was effective significantly different depending on gender. In conclusion, the strategy for using clipbank teaching, made students feel that learning science was interesting. A lot of reseaches give that science can provide the ideas as a metheod to educational web-sites, educational web-sites can provide creative ideas to science learning strategy, but it is still lacking that research can be applied to education specifically on how to. This study will help elementary teachers adjust teaching to help students learn science with positive emotions.

영양상담을 통한 식사행동의 변화가 운동선수의 운동능력 향상에 미치는 효과 (A Behavior-Modification Approaches to Improved Exercise Performance for Athletes Through the Multipe Nutritional Counseling)

  • Management of nutrient intakes through behavior-mordification can be important for improving exercise performance in athletes. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of nutritional counseling for improving exercise performance capability in athletes. The subjects were seven golfers and fourteen ju-do athletes from Hoseo university, and they have nor received professional hel[ from dieticians. Prior to nutritional counseling, their dietary intakes, lifestyles and dietary habits were evaluated. Nutritional counseling sessions were conducted by a trained dietician every 2-3 weeks for 3-4 month. After 5 counseling sessions, nutrient intakes, lifestyle and dietary habits were re-evaluated. Exercise performance capability was measured by maximal exercise stress test using treadmills. Individual data were assessed as quality index represents the better nutritional status. The common dietary and lifestyle problems were overeating binging, overeating, snacking and drinking alcohol prior to the nutritional counseling. After counseling sessions, the quality index of dietary habits seemed to decrease, especially in ju-do athletes, representing nutritional problems were resolved. Body fat and body mass index decreased in ju-do athletes, but not in golfers. Both athletes have shown to increase oxygen uptake at anaerobic threshold and maximal oxygen uptake status, which represents that the athletic performance capacity was improved after counseling sessions. Their respiratory quotients were decreased. In conclusion, nutritional counseling sessions over five times are an effective and efficient approach to change dietary habits to improve exercise performance capacity. Furthermore, clients can have good dietary habits and learn how to manago muscle strength by behavior modification through multiple nutritional counseling sessions.   • 본 논문은 TFT 칼라 터치 LCD(liquid crystal display)를 사용한 홈 자동화 원격 제어 시스템 개발을 제안한다. 이 혁신적이고 인간공학적인 디자인, LCD와 하드웨어 버튼의 올바른 조합을 가지고 원격 제어하며 또한 이것의 산업 선도적 기술을 홈 엔터테인먼트의 최첨단 부분을 수요자에게 공급한다. 일시적 사용자를 위한 원격제어는 다양하고 자유로운 매크로와 적외선 명령어를 가지고 자동적으로 프로그래밍 되어졌다. 라디오 주파수 명령은 50-100인치 정도의 벽 및 문을 통하여 조작되어진다. 편집기는 수많은 브랜드의 AV 관련 제품들에 대한 IR 코드에 맞게 방대한 라이브러리를 포함한다. 이 데이터베이스는 매달 새 장치 포함하여 지속적으로 추가된다. 라이브 업 데이트를 지원함으로 최신 버젼의 소프트웨어를 유지할 수 있다. 소프트웨어 제거 및 설치하는 것을 대신하여 인터넷에서 소프트웨어를 다운로드 및 업 데이트를 할 수 있다.

온라인 학습을 이용한 비전 기반의 차량 검출 및 추적 (Vision-Based Vehicle Detection and Tracking Using Online Learning)

  • 본 논문에서는 추적중인 차량의 외형 변화에 대해 온라인 학습 능력이 있는 비전 기반의 차량 검출 및 추적 시스템을 제안한다. 제안하는 시스템은 새로 검출된 차량의 연속된 프레임 간 움직임을 빠르고 강건하게 추정하기 위해 특징점 기반 추적 방법을 사용한다. 동시에 추적중인 차량에 대해 온라인 차량 검출기를 훈련시키고, 일시적인 차량 추적 실패 시 검출기의 결과를 이용해 추적기를 재초기화하여 강건한 추적을 가능하게 한다. 특히 차량 외형 모델의 업데이트 방법을 개선하여 시스템의 추적 성능을 높이고 처리시간을 단축시켰다. 다양한 주행환경에서 획득한 데이터세트를 사용하여 제안하는 시스템의 차량 검출 및 추적 성능을 평가하였다. 특히 우천 및 터널통과와 같은 악조건에서 기존의 방법에 비해 차량 추적 성능이 상당히 개선된 것을 증명하였다.

  • 본 연구의 목적은 예비교사들이 학생 사고를 도출하는 핵심 교수 관행에 근접하도록 돕는 디지털 시뮬레이션의 활용 가능성을 탐색하는 것이었다. 초등 수학교육 방법론을 수강하는 13명의 예비교사들이 참여한 디지털 시뮬레이션을 분석한 결과, 예비교사들은 일반적인 질문에서 내용-특화된 질문을 제기하였으며, 학생들의 해결전략을 비교하였다. 예비교사들은 다양한 이유로 시뮬레이션의 '일시 정지' 기능을 활용하였다. 예비교사들은 학생-아바타와 실시간으로 상호작용하는데 부담을 느꼈지만, 디지털 시뮬레이션을 진정한 교수 경험으로 파악했으며, 그 유용성을 강조하였다.
