  • Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) is a famous method amongst Multi Criteria Decision Making (MCDM), set up by Saaty in 1980. AHP can be determined as a methodology of hierarchical analysis following reasonable decision making with make simpler a difficult crisis. Decision making in systems of Safety management concerned multipart challenges. AHP is process for get better the composite decisions understanding with analyzes of the problem in a structure of hierarchy. The integration all of applicable decision criteria, their pair wise judgment permits the decision maker to establish the trade-offs amongst objectives. In recent years, Malaysian's economy and infrastructure development have significantly and rapidly risen. The construction industry continues to play a major role in this development as many construction activities have been carried out to meet the high demands of the expansive market. However, the construction industry has faced a wide range of challenges, one of which is the frequent occurrences of accidents at the workplace. An effective safety program can substantially reduce accidents because it can help management to build up safer means of operations and create safe working environments for the workers. Furthermore, by having an effective safety programs, good safety culture can be embedded in organization because it can encourage mutual cooperation between management and workers in the operations of the programs and decisions that affect their safety and health. The focus of this research is development methodology of Analytics Hierarchy Process (AHP) in construction safety factors and investigates the levels of some effective elements in SMS in Malaysian construction industries.

A Case Study on Designing a Console Design Review System Considering Operators' Viewing Range and Anthropometric Data

  • Objective: The aim of this study is to introduce an operator console design review system suitable for designing and evaluating consoles based on human factor guidelines for a digitalized main control room in an advanced nuclear power plant which has a requirement for anthropometric data usage. Background: The system interface of the main control room in a nuclear power plant has been getting digitalized and consists of various consoles with many information displays. Console operators often face human-computer interactive problems due to inappropriate console design stemming from the perceptual constraints of anthropometric data usage. Method: Computational models with a process of visual perception and variables of anthropometric data are used for designing and evaluating operator consoles suitable for human system interface guidelines, which are used in an advanced nuclear power plant. Results: From the computational model and simulation application, console dimensions and a designing test module, which would be used for designing suitable consoles with safety concerns in a nuclear power plant, have been introduced. Conclusion: This case study may influence employing a suitable design concept with various anthropometric data in many areas with safety concerns and may show a feasible solution to designing and evaluating the safety console dimensions. Application: The results of this study may be used for designing a control room with the human factors requiring a safe working environment.

Design of a Compact Laparoscopic Assistant Robot;KaLAR

  • This paper describes the development of a 3-DOF laparoscopic assistant robot system with motor-controlled bending and zooming mechanisms using the voice command motion control and auto-tracking control. The system is designed with two major criteria: safety and adaptability. To satisfy the safety criteria we designed the robot with optimized range of motion. For adaptability, the robot is designed with compact size to minimize interference with the staffs in the operating room. The required external motions were replaced by the bending mechanism within the abdomen using flexible laparoscope. The zooming of the robot is achieved through in and out motion at the port where the laparoscope is inserted. The robot is attachable to the bedside using a conventional laparoscope holder with multiple DOF joints and is compact enough for hand-carry. The voice-controlled command input and auto-tracking control is expected to enhance the overall performance of the system while reducing the control load imposed on the surgeon during a laparoscopic surgery. The proposed system is expected to have sufficient safety features and an easy-to-use interface to enhance the overall performance of current laparoscopy.

Acoustic theory application in ultra short baseline system for tracking AUV

  • The effective tracking area of ultra short baseline (USBL) systems strongly relates to the safety of autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs). This problem has not been studied previously. A method for determining the effective tracking area using acoustic theory is proposed. Ray acoustic equations are used to draw rays which ascertain the effective space. The sonar equation is established in order to discover the available range of the USBL system and the background noise level using sonar characteristics. The available range defines a hemisphere like enclosure. The overlap of the effective space with the hemisphere is the effective area for USBL systems tracking AUVs. Lake and sea trials show the proposed method's validity.

  • The whistle is a very important information source for the safety navigation under foggy weather. But navigator has no concern about this , because it must be achieved by human hearing sense and considered as a vague signal. If the range and relative bearing of signa source can be detected automatically, it would be very useful system for preventing marine casualties making a lot of economic loss and environment pollution. Before the algorithm of 2-dimensinal sound source tracking system was reported . This paper describes the method that can obtain thetime lag between three signas and the theory of cross-correlation analysis and subtraction method for cauculating the time lag by using the digital signal data sequences. And a series of experiments were carried out for various position of sound source in the range from 200m to 530cm.

  • In the design of modem rotating machinery, it is often necessary to increase the performance of rotor-bearing system. Since a critical speed range influences the performance and safety of the whole system, it should be necessary to constrain the critical speed and thus resonance response in design process to result in large vibration. Consequently the minimization of resonance response amplitudes within the operation range of the rotor system becomes the most primary design objective. In this paper, based on the assumption that the external shape of rotating-shaft, bearing supporting positions and etc, the natural frequency analysis of spindle is performed by ANSYS $10.0^{(R)}$ Optimum design is conducted using the RBF model.

중규모터널 방재용 제트팬 초기 가동시간에 관한 연구 (A Study on Jet Fan Start Time in Medium-Length Tunnel Fires)

  • 중규모 터널(연장 1 km 이내) 건설은 최근 매년 30% 이상의 증가율을 보이고 있으나 환기 및 방재시설 설치기준은 제정되어 있지 않은 상태라 장대터널을 대상으로 한 설치기준을 따르고 있다. 이에 따라 중규모터널 환기 및 방재시설의 최적화 노력이 요구되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 중규모 터널 내 20 MW 규모의 화재 시 발생하는 화재연 역류거리, 고온 열기류 확산범위, 가시거리 20 m 이하(상류) 구간분포, 임계풍속 확보여부, 대피시간 등을 CFD 분석을 통해 방재팬의 적정 초기 가동시간을 도출하여 방재시스템의 최적운전 방안의 제시를 목적으로 한다.

Wrist Motion in Computer Keyboard Typing

  • The purpose of this study is to define how wrist motion is affected by different postures and supporting devices and to discover functional range of wrist motion for keyboard typing. The range of wrist motion (ROM) needed for fourteen experienced typists to type on a computer keyboard was measured by flexible and biaxial electrogoniometers. The most frequent wrist motion during typing was in extended and ulnarly deviated positions in both wrists. Range of wrist motion was similar in both wrists. The average ROM for keyboard typing with the typists' own posture was about 39 in flexion/extension (FEM) and 29 in radial/ulnar deviation (RUD) in both wrists. The range of wrist motion was significantly reduced to 30 in FEM and 27 in RUD with use of either wrist or forearm supporting devices, which suggests that these devices might help to relieve fatigue, discomfort, or pain during and/or after typing. Results of this study will be of interest to clinicians and helpful to those who are professionally or non-professionally involved in typing.

  • This paper describes the Around View Monitoring (AVM) system for hydraulic excavators that prevents the safety accidents caused by blind spots and increases the operational efficiency. To verify the developed system, experiments were conducted with its prototype. The experimental results demonstrate its applicability in the field with the following values: 7m of a visual range, 15fps of image refresh rate, 300ms of working information data reception rate, and 300ms of surface condition data reception rate.

Dynamical Rolling Analysis of a Vessel in Regular Beam Seas

  • This paper deals with the dynamical analysis of a vessel that leads to capsize in regular beam seas. The complete investigation of nonlinear behaviors includes sub-harmonic motion, bifurcation, and chaos under variations of control parameters. The vessel rolling motions can exhibit various undesirable nonlinear phenomena. We have employed a linear-plus-cubic type damping term (LPCD) in a nonlinear rolling equation. Using the fourth order Runge-Kutta algorithm with the phase portraits, various dynamical behaviors (limit cycles, bifurcations, and chaos) are presented in beam seas. On increasing the value of control parameter ${\Omega}$, chaotic behavior interspersed with intermittent periodic windows are clearly observed in the numerical simulations. The chaotic region is widely spread according to system parameter ${\Omega}$ in the range of 0.1 to 0.9. When the value of the control parameter is increased beyond the chaotic region, periodic solutions are dominant in the range of frequency ratio ${\Omega}=1.01{\sim}1.6$. In addition, one more important feature is that different types of stable harmonic motions such as periodicity of 2T, 3T, 4T and 5T exist in the range of ${\Omega}=0.34{\sim}0.83$.
