A Study on the Railroad Logistics Resources Development Policy Analysis (철도물류자원개발 정책분석에 관한 연구)

  • This study is made to link up the policy analysis theory flame and practice concerning the analysis of the railroad logistics resources development policy and propose an alternative to feasibility for the railroad logistics resources development policy in general. The specific objectives to achieve the purpose of this research are as follow: First, In consideration of the railroad logistics resources development policy and theory of policy analysis idea and goals, for analysis of the railroad logistics resources development policy analysis are to be instituted more systematically. Second, the theory of the railroad logistics resources development policy analysis will be made more systematic and use it as basis of the said analysis for further.

  • This study analyzes the impact on continuous use of railroad logistics by mediating the logistics performance of recognition on the logistics service quality. According to the results, economic quality, information quality and relationship quality have impacts on the intent of continuous use by fully mediating logistics performance. Based on these results, a model for intent of continuous use of railroad logistics was proposed. As for the results of this study, it can be seen that the continuous use of railroad logistics is formed by the logistics performance due to the use of railroad logistics and, for this, a practical direction is suggested: the improvement of service is required, by which the recognition can be enhanced for the economic quality, information quality and relationship quality of the customers.

  • Railroad logistics transporting freight by train takes charge of 10 or 20 percent of domestic cargos. Railroad logistics users such as transport companies including shippers or Inland Container Depot(ICD) use electronic document(EDI or XML) or input data through WEB to process railroad logistics business. However, as business environments evolving into e-business, it is required to upgrade the legacy railroad logistics process. As the increase of using ebXML-based schema format, it is also needed to improve the electronic documents based on DTD format into those of XML schema format. This study deals with information standard for railroad logistics to improve the railroad logistics business. To this purpose railroad business processes were re-defined through the standard business process modeling methodology. Information model was also derived by defining railroad logistics activities from business process model. And Business Information Entities(BIEs) were defined to design new electronic documents according to the extracted information model. An improved system architecture for railroad logistics was proposed as well. The results of this study will provide an effective and flexible business flow to railroad logistics business.

  • In 21th century, high oil price and environmental pollution appeared by serious social problem. It brought important change of logistics environment, and environmentally-friendliness and sustainability are emphasized. In spite of that railroad has high energy efficiency and environmental-friendliness to advantage traditionally, there is still transport division rate of railroad in declining tendency as investment policy that is concentrated on road and insufficiency of social realization about environmental problem. The construction of environment-friendly transport system and the reasonable role sharing between modes of transportation are important. Transportation policy of Korea is presented through plans to constructs efficiently and manages national transportation system. In this study, examine development process of national railroad logistics plan with logistics environment change, and proposes the following ways to development of railroad logistics policy.

  • Due to the reduction of greenhouse gases and a sharp increase in the energy prices the world over, there is a growing interest in the railroad transport. In particular, in the case of containers which are the major item of railroad transport, a need for the switchover from the road transport to the railroad transport is being suggested, however, it is understood that the extent of the switchover occurring is only marginal. There exist many causes that account for the marginal extent of the switchover to the railroad transport. Some of them have to be dealt with at the policy level and efforts are needed to make it more efficient to use the railroad than other means of transport by improving railroad logistics facilities. Thus, the present study seeks to examine the possible measures for improving the railroad logistics facilities to promote the railroad transport.

  • As the demand for logistics services increases rapidly in modern society, the existing freight delivery system through road transportation is caused various problems such as traffic congestion and greenhouse gas emissions. To solve that, the development of an 'underground logistics tunnel-based cargo transportation system' is currently being considered in Korea. In order to build a new concept stable and safe logistics system, derive system design requirements and functional specifications, and reflect them at the development of target system. In this study, to make foundation for development of an "underground logistics tunnel-based cargo transportation system," define system components through analysis from a hierarchical perspective, and the functions of each component were analyzed and defined. We identified what interfaces the components have at each stage of the operating process. Lastly, we defined a detailed operation scenario based on the previously derived results, deriving target system functional requirements.

  • Present Prices have reduced to $100 per barrel, but international oil prices caused big damage to local logistics industry due to rise in International oil prices and, in august 2008 oil prices reached up to 146 US. Depending on oil prices, the domestic logistic industry should develop a strategy by innovative management of purchase of supply for manufacturing industry and efficient supply and demand of resources which is believed to be more important. Accordingly, we want to analyze railroad logistics' present condition and effect on railroad industry that can expect affirmative development by oil-price rise and by developing strategies for efficient railroad logistics.

  • The logistics collaboration is begun in the transport part and introducing it in all fields of the distribution including delivery and the storage in these days. The effectiveness by the logistics collaboration is proved in many forms and adopted in many parts positively. However, logistics collaboration are enforced around road transport now. In this paper, it is examined for logistics collaboration introduction plan in the railroad part which is outstanding in environmental. The logistics collaboration are examined for transport and storage in not only the Railway main line transport but also the railroad station.

  • Recently, the Korean government has been making efforts to achieve 'creative economy' based on science and technology. As part of these efforts, it has been promoted specific policies for innovation and performance enhancement of national R&D projects. They contains commercialization of research outcomes, technology transfer, technology based startup and support small and medium-sized businesses. The railroad transportation industry is a representative in the field of SOC and has own characteristics different from other industry areas. Especially, industry and market of railroad transportation are directly related to planning and implementation of government SOC policies. So in order to promoting commercialization of railroad transportation projects, it is very important to ensure consistency between government policies and R&D projects. In this paper, we investigate barriers of successful commercialization with typical researchers in the area of railroad transportation, and suggest problems and improvements of policy-based commercialization by giving specific examples.

On the Design of Power Supply System for Freight Train Reefer Container Based on Simulation

  • In recent years, if we order food by easily accessing the online market with our smartphone, we can receive the product in a fresh state at dawn the next day. Cold chain is an industry that can create high added value because it has both the characteristics of general logistics and sensitivity to temperature. Based on the electrical specifications derived from the reefer container capacity requirement investigation, we proved that power supply to up to 33 reefer containers can be made by using three additional auxiliary power supplies which are applied for freight trains in Korea. In this paper, we conducted a research on a design of power supply system for freight train reefer container based on simulation as a basic research necessary for low-temperature distribution and cold chain construction based on the reefer container railroad. Consequently, the simulation was conducted using the three-phase inverter diagram in PSIM and the SVPWM (3-harmonic injection method) control technique, and it was verified that the required power voltage was satisfied with 622Vdc, which is lower than the input voltage of general SPWM of 718Vdc. The details of this paper could be used as a foundational study for constructing cold chains based on a reefer container dedicated to freight trains in the future.
