Support Measures for Domestic Rail Freight (국내 철도 화물운송 지원제도 개선방안)

  • Recently, the importance of rail in the carriage of freight is strongly emphasized. However, the role of rail in the carriage of freight has been decreasing. The purpose of this study is to suggest policy measures for increasing rail freight. Firstly, this study reviews the current situations of the rail freight in Korea and provides theories for the necessity of government support to rail freight transport. Various support measures are identified and evaluated. According to the evaluation, it is shown that the provision of subsidy for facility construction is the most desirable measure in the sense of cost effectiveness and durability of effect. Finally, detailed implementation strategies for the desirable support measures are suggested.

A Behavior Analysis of HSR concrete slab track under Variety of Rail pad stiffness on fatigue effect (피로효과를 고려한 레일패드 스프링계수 변화에 따른 콘크리트 슬래브 궤도의 거동분석)

  • The major objective of this study is to investigate the fatigue effects of rail pad on High Speed Railway with concrete slab track system. It analyzed the mechanical behaviors of HSR concrete slab track with applying rail pad stiffness based on fatigue effect(hardening and increasing stiffness) on the 3-dimensional FE analysis and laboratory test for static & dynamic characteristics. As a result, the hardening of rail pad due to fatigue loading condition are negative effect for the static & dynamic response of concrete slab track which is before act on fatigue effect. The analytical and experimental study are carried out to investigate rail pad on fatigue effected increase vertical acceleration and stress and decrease suitable deflection on slab track. And rail pad based on fatigue effect induced dynamic maximum stresses, the increase of damage of slab track is predicted by adopting fatigue effected rail pad. after due consideration The servicing HSR concrete slab track with resilient track system has need of the reasonable determination after due consideration fatigue effect of rail pad stiffness which could be reducing the effect of static and dynamic behavior that degradation phenomenon of structure by an unusual response characteristic and a drop durability.

A Study on Logicality for the Periodic Replacements of Continuous Welded Rail based on Accumulated Passing Tonnage (누적통과톤수에 의한 레일교체기준의 타당성 분석)

  • Internal and external railway management corporations are using the periodic replacement criteria of rail by accumulated passing tonnage and wear to maintain rails for servicing. However, internal the periodic replacement criteria of continuous welded rail(CWR) by accumulated passing tonnage is the one(50kg/m-5 million gross tonnage, 60kg/m-6 million gross tonnage) presented in Japan before. It was estimated with the fatigue life about 50kg N rail joints applied diesel train load but it wasn't applied to current conditions of track; elimination of rail joint, using the concrete slab track and operation of light train load and effect of welding, manufacturing technique, grinding of rail. Therefore, in this study, it was investigated the types of damage and cause in welded rails and examined standards and information resources. Also, this study presents preliminary data to revise the periodic replacement criteria of CWR by current accumulated passing tonnage in bending test of laid welded rail and a survey of track maintenance history of Seoul metro.

A Computer Simulation of Injection Rate Characteristics of Solenoid Type Common Rail Injector According to Injector Driving Current Patterns (인젝터 구동 전류 패턴 변화가 솔레노이드 타입 커먼레일 인젝터 분사율 특성에 미치는 영향에 대한 컴퓨터시뮬레이션)

  • The effect of injector driving current pattern on fuel injection rate of solenoid diesel common rail injector was studied by computer simulation. The time resolved fuel injection rate and injected quantity per stroke of a common rail injector driven with the five current patterns were computer simulated. The fuel injection rate and injected quantity per stroke according to the rail pressure and fuel injection period were also computer simulated. When the common rail injector was driven with the five driving current patterns of peak & hold, there was no difference in the fuel injection rate in the peak section regardless of all the current patterns of the five cases. On the other hand, the magnitude of the hold current value influenced the injection rate and injected quantity per stroke. That is, in the current pattern of three cases where the hold current value is equal to or more than a constant value of the peak current value, the fuel injection rates for the given common rail rail pressure and injection period are same one another. On the other hand, the current pattern of the two cases, in which the hold current value is smaller than a certain value, there is a large fluctuation in the fuel injection rate.

  • This paper presents the process of the needle lift estimation ova common-rail injector fur HSDI(High Speed Direct Injection) diesel engines. A nonlinear mathematical model of dynamic behaviors of common-rail injector is established at first. Based on the mathematical model of the common-rail injector, the methodology of estimating the injector needle lift is introduced. A sliding mode observer is applied to overcome the model uncertainties. The common-rail injector model and the needle lift estimator are verified by simulations and experiments. The simulation and experimental results indicate that the model outputs are in a good agreement with experimental data, and the proposed nonlinear sliding observer can effectively estimate the needle lift.

Analysis on the Influence of Wheel/Rail Geometric Parameters on the Equivalent/Conicity (차륜/레일 기하학적 인자에 의한 등가답면구배 영향 분석)

  • The geometric parameters between wheel and rail change wheel/rail contact geometry characteristics, and this influence dynamic behavior of rolling stock. So, the selections of optimum geometric parameters between wheel and rail is important for planning of railway system. In this study, we have analyzed the influence of geometric parameters like wheel flange-back distance, gage, and rail inclination on the equivalent conicity relating to dynamic behavior. The analyses show the following results. The widening of wheel flange-back distanc, the decrement of gage increase the equivalent conicity and the increment of rail inclination show the sharp change of the equivalent conicity.

Prediction of Rolling Noise of Korean Train Express Using FEM and BEM (FEM과 BEM을 이용한 한국형 고속전철의 전동소음 예측)

  • Wheel-rail noise is normally classified into three catagories : rolling, squeal and impact noise. In this paper, rolling noise caused by the irregularity between a wheel and rail is analysed as follows: The irregularity between the wheel and rail is assumed as combination of sinusoidal profiles. Wheel-rail contact stiffness is linearized by using Hertzian contact theory, and then contact force between the wheel and rail is calculated. Vibration of the rail and wheel is calculated theoretically by receptance method or FEM depending on the geometry of wheel or rail for the frequency range of 100-5000Hz, important for noise generation. The radiation caused by those vibration is computed by BEM. To verify this analysis tools, rolling noise is calculated by preceding analysis steps using typical roughness data and it is compared with experimental rolling noise data. This analysis tools show reasonable results and used for the prediction of KTX rolling noise.

A Study on Wheel/Rail Rolling Noise (차륜/레일에 의한 전동음에 관한 연구)

  • The major source of railway noises is rolling noise caused by the interaction of the wheels and rails. This rolling noise is generated by the roughness of the wheel/rail surface on tangent tack in the absence of discontinuities, such as wheel flats or rail joints. These roughness cause relative vibrations of the wheel and rail at their contact area. The vibrations generated at the contact area are transmitted through the wheel and rail structures, exciting resonances of the wheel and travelling waves ill tile rail. Then these vibrations radiate noise to the wayside. In this paper, we predict the rolling noise radiated from radial/axial motion of the wheel and vertical/lateral motion of the rail using Remington's analytical model and then compare of the predicted sound pressure and measured one. Although there are some inaccuracy in our predication these results show in good agreement between 500 ㎐ and 3150㎐.

  • In this paper, the hazardous rail-crossings of 100 sites were selected by preliminary hazard analysis on the 1774 sites in Sep. 2002. The risk factors of rail-crossing were reviewed on the accidents happened in '94$\~$'02 years, and the accident progress mechanism due to 5 types of rail-crossing structure was developed by the cause-result relationship analysis. Method coping with the risk factors was proposed for improving safety of rail-crossing.
