  • Design standard specifications for structures applied to Seoul-Pusan High Speed Rail construction were established in 1991. Those specifications have been changed and supplemented in the process of above construction, and need to improve in accordance with the new criteria for construction works of Korean government. Also, a settlement of the criteria for prevention against disasters of Seoul-Pusan High Speed Rail is needed, and related specifications have been revised. The design criteria for Seoul-Pusan High Speed Rail are enacted with knowhow which resulted from High Speed Rail construction, and those are enacted for the purpose of establishing criteria for High Speed Rail construction in the inside and outside of Korea.

  • According to the current eligibility criteria in Korea, only cities with populations of more than one million are eligible to carry out urban rail transit construction projects. This paper suggests measures for improving such systems by reviewing current eligibility criteria for the construction of urban rail transit including subway and LRT in Korea.

  • In pursuit of the Trans-Korea Railway (TKR) project connecting the Korean peninsular by a rail link, it is critical that the two railway systems in ROK and DPRK are comparable in criteria and standards. Yet, there is substantial divergence of the construction criteria between the two sides, which hinders from conducting the TKR project as well as the railway modernization of DPRK. In this regard, study and comparison of the criteria are a prerequisite for mitigating the hinderance. This study investigated the laws and regulations relating to the railway technologies and construction and in particular conducted a comparative analysis of both railway systems with a focus on railway facilities such as track, structures, electric power and signaling. The results of this study will provide a useful information for the improvement of existing lines and the construction of new lines in DPRK.

  • This study is objected by presenting preliminary data to revise the periodic replacement criteria of continuous welded rail (CWR) in using. In this study, it is investigated information resources for foreign standards, the cause and types of damage in welded rails and the track maintenance history of Seoul metro to analysis the correlation between rail failure and accumulated passing tonnage. Also, it is performed bending test for the laid welded rail reaching the periodic replacement criteria. In result, the correlation between rail failure and accumulated passing tonnage is not obvious and it is a lot of cases for the construction error of welded rail. Also, as a result of bending test of laid welded rail, according to reducing about $17{\sim}18%$ the bending fracture strength of rail, the laid welded rail reaching the periodic replacement criteria is well enough ensured for the load carrying capacity of rail.

  • In recent years, LEED-NC (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design for New Construction) has become one of the most widely adopted environmental certification systems in the United States. However, according to some researchers, the adoption of the LEED-NC is perceived to add to construction cost and duration compared to conventional building standards. Therefore, it is necessary to examine the economic benefits of LEED-NC to consider how it can be applied worldwide. This study focuses on the impact of LEED-NC on the appraised unit value of parcels in San Francisco County based on the number of LEED-NC Public Transportation Access (PTA) qualified buses, light rail and commuter rail stops, distance to the closest bus, light rail and commuter rail stops, zoning class and parcel size. As a population of interest, San Francisco County was chosen since it is known as a region with well-organized transportation systems including bus, light rail and commuter rail systems. According to the correlation results, this study shows that the appraised land value is significantly affected by LEED-NC PTA, and is correlated to a higher appraised unit value of land parcels.

  • The Korea high-speed rail, based on the French design. It also implements new concept to increase the strength of bridge deck by adding an impact factor (dynamic intensity factor) in static load. In order to assure the dynamic stability, SYSTRA and Jeseph Penzien, a professor in CEC (the US) conducted a dynamic stability review on design phase. Analyzing the review results, they developed design criteria for dynamic behavior. This study deal with operating PSC box GIRDER equipped with measurement equipment or measured data of Seoul $\∼$ Taejeon, P.S.C BOX GIRDER bridge and steel comsition bridge equipped with measurement equipment based on structual knowledge about configuration of measuring sensor, response analysis of structure when train runs was performed by using measured data of PSC box girder to directly compare with design criteria. moreover, the dynamic stability with comparison of high-speed rail construction criteria was reviewed and analyzed based on historical records.

  • Step-by-step laboratory performance test and repetitive improvement of KRRI rail fastening system show that it has the similar capability as other fastening systems that have been globally used. In this study, for the evaluation of field applicability, construction and rolling-stock operation test of KRRI rail fastening system are performed. Through this approach, comparison against the service criteria of foreign countries are made.

  • After the railway reform in 2004, Korea National Railroad was divided into two separate organizations. The Korea Railway Network Authority is responsible for the construction of new line. Korea Railroad corporation is a public-owned railway operator. The compensation for the loss of rail operator from the Public Service Obligation(PSO) observance is specified in the Law of Rail Industry Development No.32, No.33. However, it is necessary to revise the compensation criteria of PSO after the actual enforcement of the law for more efficient rail operation. This study aims for revising compensation criteria of PSO. In this study, we suggested a revised compensation criteria. The scope of compensation for the loss of regional line operation was adjusted by new criteria considering the characteristics and the business results of the line. The compensation rate is linked with the actual business results of the line for giving motivation to the rail operator.

  • Active application of auger-drilled piling is expected in Korea considering its advantage in noise and vibration problems against driven piling and its cost-effectiveness in comparison to the cast in-situ piling. The current design practice being used in Korea is adopted from the Japanese one, however the equipment and construction procedure is modified for the geotechnical conditions and construction circumstances in Korea. Therefore there is an urgent need for the establishment of the rational design criteria for the auger-drilled piling in Korea. As the preliminary work for the establishment, this paper presents the current practice in Korean railway constructions. Design criteria of Korea Railway Network Authority are introduced and its characteristics and the problems are described. Application cases of auger-drilled pile to railway construction are introduced as well.

  • In this study we examined the method to select the size of the conductor rail for light rail system. Study results shows that using the conductor rail with lower resistivity requires fewer power substation, which results in lower construction cost. It also produces less copper loss. Therefore first choose the conductor rail with lowest resistivity and select the substation location, Next conduct computer simulation study to confirm it meets voltage requirement. if the minimum voltage is well above the required minimum voltage, substation number can probably be further reduced.
