  • 'Bojungikgi-tang' consists of Astragali Radix, Ginseng Radix, Atractylodis Rhizoma alba, Glycyrrhizae Radix, Angelicae gigantis Radix, Aurantii nobilis Pericarpium, Cimicifugae Rhizoma and Bupleuri Radix. It has been widely prescribed in oriental medicine for controlling digestive functions and for health. Experimental studies were implemented on analgesic, sedative and antipyretic actions. The results showed significant analgesic and antipyretic actions were recognized. Sedative actions were significantly noted.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the anti-coagulant effects of Polygoni Mutiflori Radix extracts. The results were as follows : 1. This study show that Polygoni Mutiflori Radix extracts have Anti-coagulant significant effects on Prothrombin time in vitro test. 2. This study show that Polygoni Mutiflori Radix extracts have Anti-coagulant significant effects on Activated Partial Thromboplastin Time vitro test.

A New DIT Radix-4 FFT Structure and Implementation (새로운 DIT Radix-4 FFT 구조 및 구현)

  • Two basic FFT(Fast Fourier Transform) algorithms are the DIT(Decimation-In-Time) and the DIF (Decimation-In-Frequency). In spite of the advantage of the DIT algorithm is to generate a sequential output, various structures have not been made. In this paper, a new DIT Radix-4 FFT butterfly structure are proposed and implemented using Verilog coding. Through synthesis, it is shown that the 64-point FFT is implemented by 6.78 million gates. Since the proposed FFT structure has the advantage of a sequential output, it can be used in OFDM communication SoC(System on a Chip) which need a high speed FFT output.

  • Sixty-eight kinds of aliphatic and aromatic substances peaks from ether extract of Codonopsis pilosulae Radix were shown by GC-Mass. Of them, 3 kinds of compounds were identified as ethyl benzene, acetophenone and 1-phenyl-2-butanone, which are compared with authentic specimen, and one compound was assumed as an aliphatic $C_8H_{16}O\;or\;C_9H_{20}$.

  • In oriental medicine, Polygalae Radix & Acori Graminei Rhizoma are frequently used materials for the cardiac disorder(palpitaion), brain disorder(sleep disorder, forgetfulness, confused mind, dizziness). Bang-Yak-Hap-Pyun(方藥合編) is widely used for clinical herbal prescription book. In Bang-Yak-Hap-Pyun(方藥合編), Polygalae Radix is usually used 1don(錢)(4g) and Acori Graminei Rhizoma is used 1don(錢)(4g). The most important fact is that, in contrast to most people know that Polygalae Radix & Acori Graminei Rhizoma are used most prescription at the same time, the prescription used Polygalae Radix & Acori Graminei Rhizoma at the same time is merely 3. (Bang-Yak-Hap-Pyun percentage of Polygalae Radix & Acori Graminei Rhizoma is 0.64%). The number of prescription Polygalae Radix & Acori Graminei Rhizoma in Bang-Yak-Hap-Pyun is total 16. 10 in sang-tong(上統), 4 in jung-tong(中統), 2 in ha-tong(下統). The ratio of Polygalae Radix in Bang-Yak-Hap-Pyun is 0.41%~14.28%. And the ratio of Acori Graminei Rhizoma is 4%~16.66%. The mostly quoted medical literature what prescription included Polygalae Radix & Acori Graminei Rhizoma in Bang-Yak-Hap-Pyun is Tae-Pypng-Ha-Jae-Guk-Bang.

A Comparative Study on the Effects of Polygoni Radix and Cynanchi Radix on Rat Livers Intoxicated with Carbon Tetrachloride (백서(白鼠) 간조직(肝組織)에 미치는 적하수오(赤何首烏)와 백하수오(白何首烏)의 효능에 관한 비교(比較) 연구(硏究))

  • The Polygoni Radix and Cynanchi Radix have been used to potentiate the liver functions in clinic of Oriental Medicine. The water extracts of Polygoni Radix and Cynanchi Radix were administered orally to rats intoxicated with carbon tetrachloride and then this experiment have been performed by observing liver fatty degeneration and activities of enzymes such as cytochrome oxidase (CYO), adenosine triphosphatase (ATP), acid phosphatase (ACP), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) and alkaline phosphatase (ALP). By oral administration of water extracts of the radices between 1 and 10 days, the following results were obtained. 1. The group given Cynanchi Radix extract showed recovery of the fat liver in 4 days, whereas that given Polygoni Radix extract did the recovery in 8 days. 2. In cytochrome oxidase activity, the group given Cynanchi extract showed normal activity in 6 days, whereas that given Polygoni Radix extract did the activity in 8 days. 3. In adenosine triphosphatase activity, the groups given Cynanchi Radix and Polygoni Radix extracts showed normal activities in 2 and 8 days, respectively. 4. In acid phosphatase activity, the groups given Cynanchi Radix and Polygoni Radix extracts showed recovery of the activities in 2 and 4 days, respectively. 5. In lactate dehydrogenase activity, the group given Cynanchi Radix and Polygoni Radix extracts showed recovery of the activities in 6 and 10 days, respectively. 6. In alkaline phosphatase activity, the group given Cynanchi Radix extract showed normal activity in 2 days, whereas that given Polygoni Radix extract showed slight recovery between 4 and 6 days followed by decrease of the activity in 8 and 10 days. From the above-mentioned results, it was found that both of the water extracts of Polygoni and Cynanchi Radix possessed the recovery action of liver function as intoxicated with carbon tetrachloride in rats. It is also noted that the extract of Cynanchi Radix showed more potent activity than that of Polygoni Radix.

Effect of Radix Trichosanthis on the Melanogenesis (天花粉이 멜라닌형성에 미치는 影響)

  • Recently many efforts were focused to understand the mechanical insights of melanogenesis to develop the agents for hyper-pigmentation and hypo-pigmentation. In the melanin biosynthetic pathway, tyrosinase is the rate limiting enzyme, and ${\alpha}$-melanocyte stimulating hormone(MSH) or cAMP-elevating agents stimulate melanogenesis and enhance the melanin synthesis and the tyrosinase activity. The author has analyzed the effects of Radix Trichosanthis on the basal melanogenic activities of B16/F10 mouse melanoma cells, and on the ${\alpha}$-MSH or forskolin-induced melanogenesis. Radix Trichosanthis alone markedly suppressed melanin content and tyrosinase activity in a dose-dependent manner. Pretreatment of the cells with Radix Trichosanthis also suppressed the increase of ${\alpha}$-MSH (10 nM) or forskolin (20${\mu}M$)-induced melanin content and tyrosinase activity. The decrease in the tyrosinase activity was paralled by a decrease in the abundance of tyrosinase protein and tyrosinase promoter activity. Pretreatment of the cells with Radix Trichosanthis also inhibited the increase of forskolin($20{\mu}M$) induced the amount of tyrosinase protein and tyrosinase promoter activity. The results of DOPA staining revealed that pretreatment of the cells with Radix Trichosanthis showed less intensity than B16 melanoma cells stimulated with ${\alpha}$- MSH or forskolin. These results suggest that Radix Trichosanthis inhibits melanogenesis and abrogates ${\alpha}-MSH and cAMP-induced melanogenesis in B16 melanoma cells.

  • To study the effects of anti-cancer, anti-metastasis and immune response improvement of herbal-acupuncture with Aucklandiae Radix diffusae herba infusion solution(AKL-HAS), we injected AKL-HAS into Zusanli(St36) of C57BL/6 mice implanted intravenously with B16-F10 melanoma. The results were obtained as follows : 1. In the experiment groups treated with Aucklandiae Radix(AKL) Herbal-Acupuncture, the spleen cell proliferation in Balb/c mouse was significantly increased compared with that of the control group. 2. In the experiment groups treated with Aucklandiae Radix(AKL) Herbal-Acupuncture, the percentage of $CD25^{+}/CD4^{+},\;CD8^{+}/CD3e^{+},\;CD69^{+}/B220^{+},\;NK1.1^{+}/CD3e^{+}$ cells in C57BL/6 mouse PBMCs was increased compared with that of the control group. 3. In the experiment groups treated with Aucklandiae Radix(AKL) Herbal-Acupuncture, the pulmonary colony number of C57BL/6 mice implanted intravenously with B16-F10 melanoma was decreased significantly compared with that of the control group. 4. In the experiment groups treated with Aucklandiae Radix(AKL) Herbal-Acupuncture, MST(Median Survial Time) and ILS(Increase of Life Span) of C57BL/6 mice implanted intravenously with B16-F10 melanoma were increased significantly compared with those of the control group.

The Risk Assessment of Residual Pesticides and Heavy Metals in Rehmanniae Radix Preparata (숙지황 중 잔류농약과 중금속의 안전성 평가)

  • To obtain the risk assessment of hazardous materials in Rehmanniae Radix Preparata, the residual pesticides and heavy metals in samples on the Korea and China are surveyed. Group I ($BHC-{\delta}$, $BHC-{\beta}$, Fenitrothion, Penthoate, Endosulfan-${\alpha}$, Dieldrin, Endosulfan-${\beta}$ and Endosulfan-sulfate), Group II (BHC-${\gamma}$, Aldrin, DDD, DDT-p,p Permethrin and Fenvalerate), Group III(BHC-${\alpha}$, Chlorpyrifos, Tolyfluanid, Captan and DDT-o,p) and Group IV(Quintozene, Vinclozolin, DDE and Chlorfenapyr) could analysed on gas chromatography-ECD for evaluation of residual pesticides. Qualified detection concentration on the GC-ECD are $0.45 ng/g{\sim}2.50 ng/g$. Group I, Group II, Group III and Group IV are not detected in Rehmanniae Radix Preparata on the Korea and China. Concentration of As, Cd and Pb in Rehmanniae Radix Preparata. on the Korea are 3.06%, 7.00% and 5.78% for Korea Food & Drug Administration(KFDA). Concentration of As, Cd and Pb in Rehmanniae Radix Preparata. on the China are 5.16%, 5.33% and 6.50% for Korea Food & Drug Administration(KFDA). The hazardous materials in Rehmanniae Radix Preparata on the Korea and China were verified the safety of the residual heavy metals and pesticides compare with Korea Food & Drug Administration (KFDA) advisory level.

Design of Low-Power and Low-Latency 256-Radix Crossbar Switch Using Hyper-X Network Topology

  • This paper presents the design of a low-power, low area 256-radix 16-bit crossbar switch employing a 2D Hyper-X network topology. The Hyper-X crossbar switch realizes the high radix of 256 by hierarchically combining a set of 4-radix sub-switches and applies three modifications to the basic Hyper-X topology in order to mitigate the adverse scaling of power consumption and propagation delay with the increasing radix. For instance, by restricting the directions in which signals can be routed, by restricting the ports to which signals can be connected, and by replacing the column-wise routes with diagonal routes, the fanout of each circuit node can be substantially reduced from 256 to 4~8. The proposed 256-radix, 16-bit crossbar switch is designed in a 65 nm CMOS and occupies the total area of $0.93{\times}1.25mm^2$. The simulated worst-case delay and power dissipation are 641 ps and 13.01 W when operating at a 1.2 V supply and 1 GHz frequency. In comparison with the state-of-the-art designs, the proposed crossbar switch design achieves the best energy-delay efficiency of $2.203cycle/ns{\cdot}fJ{\cdot}{\lambda}2$.
