  • Spatial distribution of precipitation has been estimated based on the local gauge correction (LGC) with a fixed inverse distance weighting (IDW), which is not optimized in taking effective radius into account depending on the radar error. We developed an algorithm, improved local gauge correction (ILGC) which eliminates outlier in radar rainrate errors and optimize distance power for IDW. ILGC was statistically examined the hourly cumulated precipitation from weather for the heavy rain events. Adjusted radar rainfall from ILGC is improved to 50% compared with unadjusted radar rainfall. The accuracy of ILGC is higher to 7% than that of LGC, which resulted from a positive effect of the optimal algorithm on the adjustment of quantitative precipitation estimation from weather radar.

  • Since the eddy current problem usually depends on the geometry of the moving conductive sheet and the shape of the pole projection area, there is no general method to find out its analytical solution. The analysis of the eddy current in a rotating disk is performed in the case of time-invariant field to find its analytical solution. As a method to solve the eddy current problem, the concept of the Coulomb charge and image method are proposed with the consideration of the boundary condition. Firstly, the line charge is obtained from the volume charge generated in the rotating disk and Coulomb's law is applied. Secondly, the finite disk radius is considered by introducing an imaginary eddy current to satisfy the boundary condition that the radial component of the eddy current is zero at the edge of the relating disk. Thirdly, the braking torque is calculated by applying Lorentz force law. Finally, the computed braking torque is compared with the measured one As a result, it can be said that the proposed model presents fairly accurate results in a low angular velocity range although a large error is observed as the angular velocity of the disk increases.

  • The contact procedure of access channel necessary to set up the originating call has a close relation with the performance and capacity of the base station system in CDMA cellular network. This paper investigates the structure and the operation of the backward channel of IS-95 CDMA standard and explains the related system parameters. We can derive the throughput of the CDMA access channel depending on the arrivals of the access probes per access channel slot, given the system parameters such as cell radius, the maximum number of retransmission, and the error rates of the access and paging channel. It shows that the performance in throughput is much better in the CDMA IS-95 access channel than in the slotted aloha channel. It also gives the reasonable number of the trafic channels in a cell with the given blocking probability.

  • DECT(Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunications) is the communication protocol and the pico-cellular network that provides a PABX with mobile services on the local area within its cell radius of about 100 to 200m. Compared with GSM, DECT provides low-cost communication services based on the PSTN and it is an ideal supplementary method for the type of in-building mobile communication. In this paper we presented the implementation methods and techniques of the DECT data link communication layer that provided reliable communication services to the upper network layer by performing the functions of link controls, error controls, sequence controls, and flow controls.

  • Recently, novice driver or weak drivers was difficult to understand the movement characteristics of the car and are immature sense of width and length of the car according to various each driver's sex and age, model. To complement this problem, the use of rear sensor and the camera is increased. And the parking assistance system that improves the convenience of parking the driver is being developed. Accordingly, parking guide system is needed to reflect the difference in the steering angle and correct the error distance. In this study, it is proposed that the turning radius during backward by complementing the existing Ackerman Jentaud type. And it develops more accurate parking guideline to be able to generat algorithm by applying the formula to propose a steering wheel angle sensor value derived through the handle.

  • Based on the observation that ignoring the angle dependency of multigroup resonance cross sections within a fuel pellet would result in nontrivial underestimation of the spatial self-shielding of flux, a parametrized spectral superhomogenization (SPH) factor library (PSSL) method is developed as a practical means of resolving the problem. Region-wise spectral SPH factors are calculated by the normal and transport corrected SPH iterations after ultrafine group slowing down calculations over various light water reactor pin-cell configurations. The parametrization is done with fuel temperature, U-238 number density, fuel radius, moderator source represented by ${\Sigma}_{mod}V_{mod}$, and the number density ratio of resonance nuclides to that of U-238 in a form of resonance interference correction factors. The parametrization is successful in that the root mean square errors of the interpolated SPH factors over the fuel regions of various pin-cells are within 0.1%. The improvement in reactivity error of the PSSL method is shown to be superior to that by the original SPH method in that the reactivity bias of -200 pcm to -300 pcm vanishes almost completely. It is demonstrated that the environment effect takes only about 4% in the reactivity improvement so that the pin-cell based PSSL method is effective in the assembly problems.

  • PURPOSES : The applicability of the mechanics-based similarity concept (suggested by Feng et al.) for determining scaled variables, including length and load, via laboratory-scale tests and discrete element analysis, was evaluated. METHODS: Several studies on the similarity concept were reviewed. The exact scaling approach, a similarity concept described by Feng, was applied in order to determine an analytical solution of a free-falling ball. This solution can be considered one of the simplest conditions for discrete element analysis. RESULTS : The results revealed that 1) the exact scaling approach can be used to determine the scale of variables in laboratory tests and numerical analysis, 2) applying only a scale factor, via the exact scaling approach, is inadequate for the error-free replacement of small particles by large ones during discrete element analysis, 3) the level of continuity of flowable materials such as SCC and cement mortar seems to be an important criterion for evaluating the applicability of the similarity concept, and 4) additional conditions, such as the kinetics of particle, contact model, and geometry, must be taken into consideration to achieve the maximum radius of replacement particles during discrete element analysis. CONCLUSIONS : The concept of similarity is a convenient tool to evaluate the correspondence of scaled laboratory test or numerical analysis to physical condition. However, to achieve excellent correspondence, additional factors, such as the kinetics of particles, contact model, and geometry, must be taken into consideration.

  • The Pipe bending process using high frequency local induction heating is an advanced technique to bend pipes with a small bending radius and a large diameter. Even though the pipe bending process is a quite widespread engineering practice, it depends heavily upon trial and error method by field engineers with several years of experience. So it is necessary to develop an integrated methodology for optimum design of the pipe bending process. During hot pipe bending using induction heating, outward wall thickness of a pipe is thinned due to tensile stress and the reduction of wall thickness is not allowed to exceed 12.5%. Taguchi method and dynamic reverse moment is proposed to maintain a reduction ratio of thickness within 12.5%, when D/t ratio is high. An application of the proposed approach was compared with those of the finite element analysis and has good in agreements.

  • Limit elastic speed analysis of Al/SiC-based functionally graded annular disk of uniform thickness has been carried out for two cases, namely: metal-rich and ceramic rich. In the present study, the unknown field variable for radial displacement is solved using variational method wherein the solution was obtained by Galerkin's error minimization principle. One of the objectives was to identify the variation of induced stress in a functionally graded disk of uniform thickness at limit elastic speed using modified rule of mixture by comparing the induced von-Mises stress with the yield stress along the disk radius, thereby locating the yield initiation. Furthermore, limit elastic speed has been reported for a combination of varying grading index (n) and aspect ratios (a/b).Results indicate, limit elastic speed increases with an increase in grading indices. In case of an increase in aspect ratio, limit elastic speed increases up to a critical value beyond which it recedes. Also, the objective was to look at the variation of yield stress corresponding to volume fraction variation within the disk which later helps in material tailoring. The study reveals the qualitative variation of yield stress for FG disk with volume fraction, resulting in the possibility of material tailoring from the processing standpoint, in practice.
