History of the Asian Society of Abdominal Radiology

  • The history and administrative system of the Asian Society of Abdominal Radiology (ASAR) are described briefly with a focus on its academic activity, including congresses and education. ASAR is one of the three regional societies in the field of abdominal radiology, comprising approximately 2500 members from seven countries in Asia. A further increase in the numbers of members and affiliated societies is expected with the advancement of imaging technology and the distribution of radiologic equipment and knowledge. ASAR is responsible in Asia for matters of interdisciplinary collaboration in the field of abdominal radiology and has successfully represented Asia in the field of radiology.

방사선학과 전공 학생들의 법의학에 대한 인식과 교육 요구도 조사 (A Survey of Radiologic Science Students' Awareness and Educational Needs of Forensic Medicine)

  • 국내 경제 및 과학의 발전으로 인하여 국민의 생활 수준은 높아졌다. 그에 따라 생명의 질 향상을 원한다. 즉, 인권을 보장하고 인간으로서 존엄과 가치를 추구한다. 그러므로 의학계는 인간의 생명을 연장하며, 건강한 삶을 유지하기 위해 도움을 준다. 인권을 수호하는 사회의학은 법의학이다. 법의학은 법의방사선학 영상으로 사망자 식별 및 원인을 분석한다. 법의방사선학은 방사선사가 의료영상을 획득하여 제공하는 것이다. 그러므로 방사선사는 법의학 관련 교과목을 이수하여 전문성을 가져야 한다. 최근 의과대학 및 간호대학에서는 의과대학 및 간호대학에서는 법의학, 법의간호학 등 다양한 교과목을 개설하여 운영 중이다. 그러나 방사선학과는 법의학 관련 교과목을 개설한 학교가 단 하나뿐이다. 향후 방사선사 및 방사선학과의 발전과 모색을 위해서는 법의학 교육을 고려하여야 한다. 이를 위해 방사선학과 학부 및 대학원에 법의학 교육의 필요성과 요구도를 조사하였다. 방사선학과 재학생들의 법의학 인식도는 2.977점으로 나타났으나, 방사선사가 법의학 교육 필요성은 3.759점으로 높게 나타났다. 또한, 재학생들의 법의학 교과목 요구도는 84.1%로 높게 나타나 대다수가 개설 운영이 필요하다고 응답하였다. 본 연구는 방사선학과 학부 및 대학원 재학생들의 법의학 관련 교과목 요구도를 알 수 있었으며, 교육의 다양성과 전문성을 모색할 필요가 있다. 법의학 및 방사선학 발전에 기초자료로 활용되길 기대한다.

  • 첨단 기술의 발전으로 디지털 방사선영상 장비들이 많이 개발되어 정확한 진단과 치료에 많은 도움을 받고 있으며, 이를 안전하고 효과적으로 사용하기 위하여 전문적인 지식을 습득한 인력양성이 매우 중요하다. 진단용 X선 장비를 활용한 촬영 실습 교육에 있어서 학생들은 방사선 피폭의 위험성에 노출되어 있고, 일부 교육기관에서는 원자력안전법에 따른 관리의 어려움으로 X선 장비를 사용하지 않는 경우도 발생하고 있다. 이에 대한 해결책으로, 본 연구에서는 비전 센서와 자체 개발한 소프트웨어를 활용하여 방사선이 발생하지 않는 교육용 의료방사선 시뮬레이터를 개발하였고, 이를 통해 교육기관은 법에 따른 행정 이행 사항의 부담을 줄일 수 있고, 학생들은 방사선 피폭이 없는 건강한 실습환경에서 높은 수준의 교육 효과를 얻을 수 있게 하였다.

An Open Medical Platform to Share Source Code and Various Pre-Trained Weights for Models to Use in Deep Learning Research

  • Deep learning-based applications have great potential to enhance the quality of medical services. The power of deep learning depends on open databases and innovation. Radiologists can act as important mediators between deep learning and medicine by simultaneously playing pioneering and gatekeeping roles. The application of deep learning technology in medicine is sometimes restricted by ethical or legal issues, including patient privacy and confidentiality, data ownership, and limitations in patient agreement. In this paper, we present an open platform, MI2RLNet, for sharing source code and various pre-trained weights for models to use in downstream tasks, including education, application, and transfer learning, to encourage deep learning research in radiology. In addition, we describe how to use this open platform in the GitHub environment. Our source code and models may contribute to further deep learning research in radiology, which may facilitate applications in medicine and healthcare, especially in medical imaging, in the near future. 방사선사법 제정의 필요성 (The Necessity of Redefining the Radiological Technologist Independent Law)

  • According to the changes of the medical environment of the times, it is necessary to discuss the issues of the doctor's medical guidance and to conduct continuous research so that alternatives can be prepared systematically. Furthermore, in order to enhance the professionalism of radiological technologists and to develop the medical technician system, the new Radiological Technologist Independent Act has been established, which contains the overall contents of the scope of work, professional qualifications, and specialized education of radiological technologists, and provides quality medical services to patients through professional procedures and treatment. In order to increase the level of medical care, the purpose, definition, mission, role, and scope of work specified in the Medical Act, Medical Service Technologists, etc. Act, the Enforcement Decree, and the Enforcement Rules were variously analyzed and new directions were presented. First, the definition of a medical technician should use a generic term so that the factors of conflict and prejudice could be resolved. Second, change the doctor's guide to doctor's prescription; and then legislate the authority to sign and write medical records after examination by radiological technologists, thereby prohibiting unlicensed technicians that seriously endanger patient safety. Third, an accurate definition of radiological technologists' roles should be established; not only selection and management of radiological technologists' work but also procedures and treatment for each radiology field should be specified to suit the current medical system. Fourth, a professional radiological technologists' qualification system and a specialized education system should be established in order to secure human resources that could provide patients trust in procedures and treatment based on professional knowledge and experience in the field of radiology. Fifth, the Education and Evaluation Institute should be operated in Korea education system to educate the professional knowledge and competency for students. In addition, it is necessary to in-depth analysis of foreign cases could be applied to the medical system and education system in Korea; it could strive to nurture systematic human resources.

방사선과 학생을 위한 가상현실 교육콘텐츠 개발 및 적용을 통한 학습효과 분석 (Analysis of Learning Effect through the Development and Application of Virtual Reality(VR) Education Content for Radiology Students)

  • This study developed radiation therapy contents based on virtual reality technology and applied them to radiation students. A survey was conducted to analyze the relationship between learning effects and learning satisfaction to students who used virtual reality education videos to analyze their learning performance. 71 students radiology department were classified into two groups one that experienced virtual reality and the other that did not experienced virtual reality. We surveyed between the two groups analyzed self-directed learning, self-learning efficacy and learning satisfaction. As a result, the comparison between the two groups showed no difference between self-directed learning and self-learning efficacy. But the learning satisfaction was significant from 2.64±0.83 to 3.20±0.88 in the problem solving process for groups applying virtual reality contents. Therefore, learning satisfaction has improved experienced group virtual reality content and the materials for virtual reality education can be applied more efficiently in non-face-to-face lectures.

방사선학과 학생들의 학과 선택, 임상실습, 학과 교육 과정과 전공 선택 만족도의 융복합형 관련성 (The Convergence Relevance of The Department of Radiology students' Selection of Department, Clinical Practice, Curriculum of Department and The Selection Satisfaction of Major)

  • 본 연구는 방사선학과 학생들의 전공 선택 만족도에 영향을 주는 요인을 파악하고 평가하였다. 방사선학과 학생 151명을 대상으로 설문 조사하여 t-test, 다중회귀분석을 실시하였다. 학과 선택 중 선호성과 현재 요인이 유의한 차이가 있었다. 임상실습에서는 실습환경, 실습지도, 실습시간과 평가, 실습 후 만족도, 취업과의 연계성이 유의한 차이가 있었다. 학과 교육 과정 요인에서는 교육 과정 구성, 교수 학습 및 평가, 지원 시설, 학제 만족, 교육 과정 만족이 유의한 차이가 있었다. 결과적으로, 학생들의 전공 선택 만족을 높이기 위한 시스템 개발과 교육의 질 향상을 위한 노력이 필요하다.

종합병원 영상의학과의 감염관리 대한 분석 (Analysis on infection control of general hospital radiology)

  • 경상북도에 소재한 5개 종합병원 영상의학과의 오염도를 계수하고, 오염 원인균을 배양하여 동정하고 이를 토대로 지역사회 영상의학과의 효율적인 감염관리 방안을 모색하고자 하였다. 확인된 표면오염 균주는 Staphylococcus, Micrococcus, Pseudomonas stutzeri, Pseudomonas oryzihabitans로 병원 감염의 원인균으로 알려진 균주였고 영상의학과의 오염원으로 특이성을 가진 균주는 없었다. 조사대상 병원은 비슷한 감염관리교육을 실시하고 있었으나 병원별 오염도의 차이는 유의한 차이를 보였다. 조사대상 병원별 접촉원에 따른 오염도의 차이는 방사선사 사용, 환자사용, 공통사용으로 구분하여 분석한 결과 환자사용이 방사선사사용, 공통사용에 비해 유의하게 높은 오염도를 보였다(p<0.001). 병원별 월평균 검사건수의 차이가 적은 장치는 모든 병원에서 유의한 차이를 보이지 않았으나 이에 비해 촬영건수가 가장 많은 일반촬영장치, 흉부전용촬영대의 오염도가 다른 촬영장치에 비해 오염도가 높았다. 또한 월평균 촬영건수가 많은 A, B, C 병원은 방사선사가 단독으로 사용하거나 또는 환자와 공통으로 사용하는 방사선조사장치, 사무용책상, 출입문 손잡이에서 비교적 높은 오염도를 보였다.

Determination of Scattered Radiation to the Thyroid Gland in Dental Cone Beam Computed Tomography

  • Background: Cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) is a specialized medical equipment and plays a significant role in the diagnosis of oral and maxillofacial diseases and abnormalities; however, it is attributed to risk of exposure of ionizing radiation. The aim of the study was to estimate and determine the amount of scattered radiation dose to the thyroid gland in dental CBCT during maxilla and mandible scan. Materials and Methods: The average scattered radiation dose for i-CAT 17-19 Platinum CBCT (Imaging Sciences International) was measured using a Multi-O-Meter (Unfors Instruments), placed at the patient's neck on the skin surface of the thyroid cartilage, with an exposure parameter of 120 kVp and 37.07 mAs. The surface entrance dose was noted using the Multi-O-Meter, which was placed at the time of the scan at the level of the thyroid gland on the anterior surface of the neck. Results and Discussion: The surface entrance dose to the thyroid from both jaws scans was 191.491±78.486 µGy for 0.25 mm voxel and 26.9 seconds, and 153.670±74.041 µGy from the mandible scan, whereas from the maxilla scan the surface entrance dose was 5.259±10.691 µGy. Conclusion: The surface entrance doses to the thyroid gland from imaging of both the jaws, and also from imaging of the maxilla and mandible alone were within the threshold limit. The surface entrance dose and effective dose in CBCT were dependent on the exposure parameters (kVp and mAs), scan length, and field of view. To further reduce the radiation dose, care should be taken in selecting an appropriate protocol as well as the provision of providing shielding to the thyroid gland.

실시간 비대면 수업환경을 2년간 경험한 학생들의 만족도 조사 연구: 방사선전공학생들을 대상으로 (The Study on Satisfactory Rate with Students Which Experienced Non-face-to-face Online Class Environment for Two Years: For Radiology Majoring Students)

  • This study is a questionnaire about the lesson environment that radiation major students prefer in a non-face-to-face live online lesson environment for a total of 133 students, 65 second graders and 68 third graders who are enrolled in the department of radiology at a university located in the Seoul metropolitan area. And checked the satisfactory level by grade. The questionnaire consists of three categories: 1st real-time non-face-to-face lectures, 2nd professor lectures, and 3rd corona lectures. A total of 14 questions, with multiple choice and descriptive response methods. As an evaluation method, in the case of a multiple-choice question, the average was calculated using a 5-point Likert scale. As a result of conducting the independent sample T-test of the SPSS program, the response by grade was P > 0.05, and no significant result was shown by the contents of the questionnaire survey of the second grade. As for the lecture method of the department of radiology after the end of Covid-19 virus, it is better to promote face-to-face lessons in radiation training subjects and non-face-to-face real-time education in subjects centered on radiation theory.
