The author studied on the transfer of radioactive fluorine ($^{18}F$) to dental hard tissue through animal experiments which was divided into two groups. First group of rats were sacrified 1, 2, 5, 10 and 20 minutes after intraperitoneal injection. Second group were sacrified 1 and 3 minutes after topical application on anterior teeth. The teeth were removed and sectioned by means of abrasive wheel and polished on india stone as thick as about 50 microns. Autoradiograph picture was made by close contact of high-speed dental X-ray film on prepared specimen for 2 hours. The results of this study were as follows; 1) There was no evidence of transfer of $^{18}F$ on dental hard tissue on the cases of 1, 2 and 5 minutes survival after intraperitoneal injection. 2) Radioactive sodium fluorine incorporated to dental hard tissue was slight and diffuse at 10 minutes cases and significant incorporated picture was noticed at 20 minutes cases in intraperitoneal injection. 3) On topical application groups incorporated $^{18}F$ to enamel was traced clearly only on enamel surface at 1 minute cases and significant transfer into whole enamel was found at 3 minutes cases.
In this study, the shielding rate of L-block-type shielding equipment used for radiation protection when radioactive fluorine is injected into the human body and the dose distribution of the space in the injection room were calculated using the Monte Carlo method. The shielding rate of the body and window parts of the L-block-type shielding equipment was 99.99%. The dose distribution calculated at a distance of 1 m was relatively high at 135°, 45°, 225°, 315°, and 180° of the XZ plane, and was calculated to be very low at 0°, 90°, and 270°. In the YZ plane, it was relatively high at 135°, 180°, and 225°, and was calculated very low at the remaining angles. The AZ and BZ planes also showed similar results to the YZ plane. In addition, it was confirmed that the shielding rate was the best in the range of 225° to 315° through the dose distribution in the horizontal direction of the source and the 45° direction above the source. These results can be used as basic data necessary for radiation protection of radiation workers.

Recently, plasma surface-cleaning or surface-etching techniques have been focused in respect of the decontamination of spent or used nuclear parts and equipment. In this study the removal rate of metallic cobalt surface is experimentally investigated via its surface etching rate with a $CF_4-o_2$mixed gas plasma. Experimental results reveal that a mixed etchant gas with about 80% $CF_4$-20% $O_2$ (molar) gives the highest reaction rate and the rate reaches 0.06 ${\mu}m$/min at $380^{\circ}C$ and ion-assisted etching dramatically enhances the surface reaction rate. With a negative 300 V DC bias voltage applied to the substrate, the surface reaction initiation temperature lowers and the rate increases about 20 times at $350^{\circ}C$ and up to 0.43 ${\mu}m$/min at $380^{\circ}C$, respectively. Surface morphology analysis confirms the etching rate measurements. Auger spectrum analysis clearly shows the adsorption of fluorine atoms on the reacted surface. From the current experimental findings and the results discussed in previous studies, mechanistic understanding of the surface reaction, fluorination and/or fluoro-carbonylation reaction, is provided.

Employees of nuclear medicine facilities performing medical procedures with the use of open radioactive sources require continuous detailed control of exposure to ionizing radiation. Thermoluminescent (TL) detectors placed in dosimeters: for the whole body, for lenses, ring and wrist dosimeters were used to assess exposure. The highest whole-body exposure of (1.70 ± 1.09) µSv/GBq was recorded in nurses administering radiopharmaceutical to patients. The highest exposure to lenses and fingers was recorded for employees of the quality control zone and it was (8.08 ± 2.84) µSv/GBq and a maximum of (1261.46 ± 338.93) µSv/GBq, respectively. Workers in the production zone received the highest doses on their hands, i.e. (175.67 ± 13.25) µSv/GBq. The measurements performed showed that the analyzed workers may be classified as exposure category A. Wrist dosimeters are not recommended for use in isotope laboratories due to underestimation of ionizing radiation doses. Appropriately selected shields, which significantly reduce the dose received by employees, must be used in isotope laboratories. Periodic measurements confirmed that the appropriate optimization of exposure reduces the radiation doses received by employees.
Uranium is toxic and radioactive traces of it can be found in natural water and soils. High concentrations of it in biological systems cause genetic disorders and diseases. For the in vivo diagnosis, micro and nano range detection limits are required. Here, an electrochemical assay for trace toxic uranium was searched using stripping voltammetry. Renewable and simplified graphite pencils electrode (PE) was used in a three-electrode cell system. Seawater was used instead of an electrolyte solution. This setup can yield good results and the detection limit was attained to be at $10{\mu}gL^{-1}$. The developed skill can be applied to organic liver cell.
Flourination of Ethyl, ${\alpha},{\beta$}-dichloro-${\beta$}-phenyl propionate, Ethyl ${\alpha},{\beta$}-dibromo ${\beta$}-phenyl propionate, Ethyl ${\alpha},{\beta$}-dichloro ${\beta$}-(p-chloro-phenyl) propionate, and dibromostyrene by potassium fluoride were investigated in presence of dimethyl formamide, diethylene glycol, and diethylene glycol monomethyl-ether. The reactivity of these organic halogen esters and hydrocarbons towards potassium fluoride was checked further by means of radioactive fluorine-18. tracer. Generally, the reaction gave monofluoride together with dehalogenated olefin. The formation of olefine was increased when the reaction was done at high reaction temperature in presence of diethylene glycol, whereas the lower reaction temperature in presence of diethyleneglycol monomethyl ether favored the formation of mono fluoride in a good yield. The procedures and methods of the identification of monofluorides were described and the feasibility of this reaction of fluorine containing ester including the F-18 labelled compounds was discussed.
Fluorine-18 used in PET/CT scans is a radioactive isotope that emits positrons, and high energy annihilation gamma rays and beta rays cause exposure to radiation workers. In this study, as part of a plan to reduce the exposure dose of radiation workers working in the Department of Nuclear Medicine, the cause of the low shielding efficiency of Apron for F-18 was identified, and the effectiveness of the Apron double-shielded with acrylic was evaluated. L-Block, Apron+acrylic, Apron, Acrylic+Apron, and Acrylic five shields are used to measure the dose, and the tendencies were compared by performing a Monte Carlo simulation. As a result, it was found that the shielding rate of Apron double shielded with acrylic was about 4 to 8% higher than that of Apron single shielded. To the extent that it does not significantly affect the user's activity, double-shielded personal protective clothing with an appropriate acrylic thickness could help reduce radiation workers' exposure.
L-[18F]FMAU ([18F]1b) was prepared from the precursor 2-O-[(trifluoromethyl)-sulfonyl]-1,3,5-tri-Obenzoyl- α-L-ribofuranose, by coupling the radioactive fluoro-sugar with the corresponding silylated thymine in 4 steps. The final products, including the α and β anomers, were purified using reverse phase HPLC with an appropriate solvent (5% CH3CN/H2O) at a flow rate of 3.0 mL/min. The total elapsed time of synthesis was about 180-200 min from EOB. The α/β anomeric ratio of the compounds was about 1:9, and the radiochemical purity of the product (β-form) was >98% with decay-corrected yields of 25-35%. All radioactive samples were confirmed using co-injection with pure non-radioactive analogues in every step. In the cellular uptake in vitro test of herpes simplex virus-thymidine kinase (HSV1-TK) gene expressed cells, the percent uptake of injected dose (%ID) of L- and D-FMAU was 37.28 and 65.86, respectively after 240 min incubation. However, the relative uptake (MCA-TK/MCA cellular uptake ratio) of L-FMAU was higher than that of D-FMAU (%ID of L-FMAU, 0.36 and D-FMAU, 0.93 after 240 min incubation in MCA cells). This means that L-FMAU will show better specific HSV1-TK gene expressed cell uptake for selective HSV1-TK gene imaging.

In this study, plasma processing of metal surface is experimentally investigated to enhance the surface decontamination efficiency and to find out the reaction mechanism. Cobalt, the major contaminant in the nuclear facilities, and three fluorine-containing gases, $CF_4/O_2$, $SF_6/O_2$, and $NF_3$ are chosen for the investigation. Thin metallic disk specimens are prepared and their surface etching reactions with the three plasma gases are examined. Results show that the maximum etching rate of $17.2\;{\mu}m/min.$ is obtained with NF3 gas at $420^{\circ}C$, while with $CF_4/O_2$, $SF_6/O_2$ gas plasmas those of $2.56\;{\mu}m/min.$ and $1.14\;{\mu}m/min.$ are obtained, respectively. Along with etching experiments, constituent elements of the reaction products are identified to be cobalt, oxygen, and fluorine by AES (Auger Electron Spectroscopy) analysis. It turns out that the oxygen atoms are physically adsorbed ones to the surface from the ambient not participation ones during the analysis after reaction, which supports that the surface reaction of cobalt is mainly to be a fluorination reaction.
The geology of the Apdong Nb-Ta deposit, is hosted by alkali metasomatites, consist of Upper Proterozoic sedimentary rocks, alkali syenites(Hoamsan intrusive) of Phyonggang Complex(late Paleozoic to early Mesozoic), Jurassic granite and Quaternary basalt. Alkali syenites are distinguished as alkali amphibole-pyroxene syenite, alkali amphibole-biotite syenite, biotite-nepheline syenite, biotite syenite, and quartz-alkali amphibole-pyroxene syenite. Alkali metasomatites are the products of intense post-magnatic metasomatism, and form the Nb-Ta ore bodies as the belt, irregular vein and lenticular types in the southern part of Hoamsan intrusive. The ore mineralization is characterized by the occurrence of pyrochlore, zircon, and small amounts of columbite, fergusonite. magnetite, fluorite, molybdenite, ilmenite, titanite, apatite, and monazite. Pyrochlore is one of the niobium/tantalum oxides and contains substantial amounts of rare earths and radioactive elements. The compositional varieties of pyrochlore can be defined: (1) enriched in tantalum, uranium and cerium, (2) substantially tantalum- and fluorine-poor, and (3) enriched in thorium or barium. The geochemical characteristics, ore textures and mineral occurrences indicate that alkali metasomatism of the mineralizing fluid was the dominant ore-forming process.
