  • A development scheme for reliable radio-wave Propagation model of digital television (DTV) service, adequate to the domestic environment, is proposed in this paper. Throughout the analysis of several ITU-R recommendations on propagation models in DTV band, ITU-R P.1546, which is based on experimental data, has been selected as our basic model. This model has been programmed, not only to be directly used for engineering analysis, such as frequency assignment, licensing, interference analysis, and sharing frequency bands, but also to be applied for development of a propagation model adequate to the specific environment. Furthermore, the procedure of developing domestic propagation model for DTV service, combined with experimental data which is now being obtained, has been described in this paper.

  • This paper presents an overview of recent advances in radio frequency and microwave filter topologies for satellite communication systems. Many types of filters have been developed during the last years in order to satisfy the demands of modern applications in both terrestrial systems and onboard spacecrafts, leading to a great variety of aspects such as transfer functions, resonator implementations or coupling structures. This paper revisits some of the last advances in this area, including the modeling and full-wave simulation. Some recent designs using dual-mode cavities along with other novel implementations in ridge waveguide will be shown.

  • In this paper, radio-wave propagation characteristics in a rectangular corridor are investigated using a tunnel model of reduced dimensions. Measurements were carried out on vertical polarization characteristics in the frequency range from 2 GHz to 10 GHz. The experimental results for the propagation constant in tunnel model agree satisfactorily with theoretical prediction. It is shown that model method is applicable in determining the propagation characteristics in tunnel.

  • Construction of Yamanashi Maglev Test Line in Japan was proceeded based on "superconducting maglev Yamanshi Testline plan" approved by Ministry of Transport Government of Japan in 1990, which was performed by Yamanashi Maglev Test Line construction project team organized by personnel of Japan Railway Construction Public Corporation, RTRI and Central Japan Railway Company, and overall adjustment test was performed. Yamanashi Maglev experimental project team was organized, sponsored by RTRI and Central Japan Railway Company from April in 1997. Running test for the application was performed by this project team. Technical availability was proved by "superconducting maglev committee" of Ministry of Transport Government in March, 2000. In this paper, train radio system by LCX and by millimeter wave will be reviewed.

  • A large satellite communication terminal on the truck shall be designed ruggedly against a disturbance for holding a position which satisfies communication performance. Especially. A design considering a wind is essential for getting into a communication with a satellite in a strong-wind condition. This paper suggests a experimental method to analyze performance of a radio wave and the aiming accuracy by wind vibration. And it analyzes the improvement and vibrational effect on a random-excitation of a structure caused by nonlinear strong wind.

  • The GFSK Transceiver of 400MHz ISM band for data communication is designed and fabricated. To reduce the occupied bandwidth of transmitted signal, the GFSK modulation is selected. The measured results of fabricated transceiver show the data rate of 2400bps at 8.5kHz bandwidth, frequency deviation of less than $\pm$3kHz, sensitivity of -111dBm, SNR of 21.58dB. The fabricated transceiver is satisfied with the regulation of radio wave and has the good performance. This transceiver is well suited for data communication of 400MHz ISM band.

  • This paper deals with the measurement and analysis of radio characteristic of 424 MHz for using the automation of transmission and supply of electric power, ana automatic meter reading(AMR). Normally radio propagation characteristic is the base of system design, performance evaluation and choice of position of the base station in wireless communication. It is the most accurate way to design a base station through practical measurements, but it costs much time, money and engineers. So, we developed 424 MHz short range wave propagation model for AMR service.

  • As the applications for Mobile Ad-hoc NETworks (MANETs) have varied, performance analysis has become one of the main research areas. They commonly offer only simple radio propagation models that neglect obstacles of a propagation environment. The radio wave propagation model has a strong impact on the results of the simulation run. In this paper we present the new experimental results of the impacts of the various propagation models on MANETs' performance. Intensive simulations have been presented using the group mobility which models typical ad-hoc situations such as military movements or disaster recovery activities under the supervision of a group leader. Comparisons of conventional simple models with more complicated models, i.e., shadowing, Raleigh, and Ricean models, show that, in spite of the models' popularity, the free space and two-ray ground models are too optimistic in describing real ad-hoc group mobility situations.

  • The Spectrum Usage Fee System which has been introduced and enforced since 1993 has had a great role for effective use of the radio frequency resources and the promotion of radio wave industry. However, the current system has been criticized due to several drawbacks. For example, broadcasting stations and national institutions are exempted whereas the overdue utility rate on some frequency has been imposed. So there has been rising the questions on whether the principles of fair imposition are broken. Another problem regarding the current system is that how to calculate the fee is too much complicated, and it needs to be revised into a simpler and clearer formulation. In this regard, this study intends to propose a new calculation framework for the radio spectrum usage fee and then prove its validity empirically on the basis of real data gathered from MIC and focus group interview.
