  • The interference among the rain radars and interference in the adjacent wireless station due to the spurious signals from the rain radar were analyzed in this paper. The rain radar measures the rain intensity using S-band signal. The measured data are utilized in forecasting the rainfall. The interference among the rain radars or in the adjacent wireless stations may be caused by the operation with low elevation angle and the high output power. Based on the propagation analysis of S band signal and the deduced interference protection ratio of rain radar, the interference due to the rain radar are analyzed. Also, the radiation spectrum characteristics of a rain radar are deduced from the caused interference effects by the spurious signals of the rain radar. To minimize the interference effects for adjacent wireless stations, it is required to get the rejection characteristics of spurious signals above 105 dB. In viewpoints of interference for rain radars, it is necessary to operate the rain radar with a different PRF and operation time opposite to adjacent rain radars.

  • Recently, World Radio Conference(WRC)-2007 approved the ultrawide bandwidth of 500 MHz for the use of spaceborne synthetic aperture radar in X-band for the EESS(Earth Exploration Satellite Service) in order to improve the SAR imaging resolution. It is concerned about the interference impact from the spaceborne SAR that may cause to most of ground radars due to the extended ultra wideband. In this paper, in order to predict the interference impact of the ground-based radar from the spaceborne radar, radar interference model is presented using radar characteristic parameters by taking into account the operating environments of the spaceborne and ground based radar in the time, space, and spectrum domains. Using the spaceborne SAR model of TerraSAR-X and ground radar model of meteorological radar recommended by ITU-R, the interference impact was assessed through the computer simulation to see the possible interference impact of the ground based radar operating in the Korean peninsula.

  • Recently, a mutual interference threat has been increasing among the radar systems due to the rapid growth of the military radar operation. In this paper, the radar interference protection criteria is presented for interoperability in terms of the radar coverage and target detection probability in association with the international recommendation on the interference spectrum by ITU-R. The required criteria for the minimum allowable interference is also presented in terms of INR. In order to ensure the maximum detection probability of the radar under the mutual interference situation, only 5 % of detection range loss is allowed for the case of INR of -6 dB, and required SNR is presented at each INR in terms of the detection range and detection probability. This result will be useful for establishing the interference protection criteria in the combined military radar systems.

  • In military applications, many radar systems are simultaneously operated at a close range. In particular, the frequency allocation must be executed for operating the homogeneous radar systems at the same time. As many radar systems are simultaneously operated with overlapping frequency bands, interference between systems inevitably occurs. Because interference can degrade radar performance, suppression of interference is a critical issue in radar systems. In this letter, we analyze the interference between two FMCW radars. In addition, time synchronization method between radars using mutual interference is proposed. Experiments are carried out to validate the proposed method. The results demonstrate that the proposed method is suitable for real radar systems.

  • In this paper, we have analyzed that interference effect between wireless LAN(IEEE 802.11 a) and radar system in 5㎓ band. Recently, Korea frequency Authority is considering the frequency allocation of wireless LAN system about 5㎓ band that is previously used in radar system. The coexistence occurs interference problem between wireless LAN and radar system, so it is required to analyze the effect of cochannel interference. Accordingly, the frequency allocation could be predicted for wireless LAN system in 5㎓ band and the interference effect has been analyzed by simulation with the radar signal modeling. Simulation results which are presented by PER and EVM show that high SIR(20 ㏈) is required to achieve the target PER about 101.

  • As the types of radio equipment becomes more complex and diversified in various fields, radio interference occurs frequently. In the domestic situation where the territory is narrow, many systems are deployed in a specific highland with a good radio wave environment. Radar systems that transmit high power signals of the same band are sometimes deployed and operating at close distance. In this paper, the type of interference was classified for the actual radio wave interference phenomenon and appropriate signal interference parameters were derived. The power density of the interference signal was predicted using the analysis method and the effectiveness was verified through measurement. And, we propose a method to minimize interference by analyzing operating scenarios of interferer radar and victim radar.

  • We propose vehicular spread spectrum (SS) radar robust to mutual interference using zero correlation zone (ZCZ) code. SS radar schemes have been employed for vehicular radar systems due to their outstanding correlation property. However, this superiority is based on a premise that timing among codes is completely synchronized. In the practical driving environment, timing mismatch among radar signals is inevitable because the radar signals of several vehicles are independently transmitted at each different location and each timing and thus each radar signal is received at different timing. This timing offset is the main cause of orthogonality destruction among codes and thus radar signals from other vehicles become mutual interference. In order to solve this problem, we find out the new property of ZCZ code which maintains the complete orthogonality except to timing offset corresponding to chips (pulses) of multiple of 4 and employ ZCZ code to SS radar systems. Simulation results show the proposed scheme achieve better performance compared with the conventional SS radar scheme using pseudo code or gold code.

  • The typical method for performing an absolute radiometric calibration of a Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) System is to analyze its response, without interference, to a target with a known Radar Cross Section (RCS). To minimize interference, an error-free calibration site for a Corner Reflector (CR) is required on a wide and flat plain or on an area without disturbance sources (such as ground objects). However, in reality, due to expense and lack of availability for long periods, it is difficult to identify such a site. An alternative solution is the use of a Triangular Trihedral Corner Reflector (TTCR) site, with a surrounding protection wall consisting of berms and a hollow. It is possible in this scenario, to create the minimum criteria for an effectively error-free site involving a conventional object-tip reflection applied to all beams. Sidelobe interference by the berm is considered to be the major disturbance factor. Total interference, including an object-tip reflection and a sidelobe interference, is analyzed experimentally with SAR images. The results provide a new guideline for the minimum criteria of TTCR site design that require, at least, the removal of all ground objects within the fifth sidelobe.
