  • This paper deals with ground clutter model for FOD (foreign object debris) surveillance FMCW (frequency modulated continuous waveform) radar. In the FOD surveillance radar, it has received not only the signals reflected by FOD, but also the clutters of the surface of the runway and the grassland simultaneously. However, to detect the FOD, the clutter rejection algorithm is necessary because the RCS (radar cross section) of FOD is nearly same to RCS of the grassland. In addition, it is difficult to apply the MTI (moving target indicator) algorithm as the clutter rejection algorithm because both the FOD and the clutter coexist stationarily. Hence, to remove the stationary clutter, it is crucial to accurately generate clutter map considering the surface of road. In this paper, in order to generate the clutter map, the respective beat signal at every range bin is generated in the case of only the surface without FOD, and then the beat signal accumulated 100 times. And also, Weibull distribution is applied to the RCS value to take the scattering distribution of clutter into consideration. The simulation results show that FOD can be well detected by applying the generated clutter map to the FOD FMCW radar.

  • The effectiveness of deep neural networks (DNNs) for detection and classification of micro-Doppler signals generated by human walking and background noise sources is investigated. Previous research included a complex process for extracting meaningful features that directly affect classifier performance, and this feature extraction is based on experiences and statistical analysis. However, because a DNN gradually reconstructs and generates features through a process of passing layers in a network, the preprocess for feature extraction is not required. Therefore, binary classifiers and multiclass classifiers were designed and analyzed in which multilayer perceptrons (MLPs) and DNNs were applied, and the effectiveness of DNNs for recognizing micro-Doppler signals was demonstrated. Experimental results showed that, in the case of MLPs, the classification accuracies of the binary classifier and the multiclass classifier were 90.3% and 86.1%, respectively, for the test dataset. In the case of DNNs, the classification accuracies of the binary classifier and the multiclass classifier were 97.3% and 96.1%, respectively, for the test dataset.

  • The vehicle detection method using pulse radar has the advantage of maintenance in comparison with loop detection method. We have the information about the vehicle being and position by dividing the signals into sectors in accordance with SSC method, and by applying the discriminant function based on stochastical data. We also reduce the signal processing time.

  • In tactical theater, it is crucial to detect ground moving targets and to locate them precisely. This problem can be resolved by using SAR (Synthetic Aperture Radar) sensors providing GMTI (Ground Moving Target Indication) capability. In general, to implement a robust GMTI sensor is not simple because of the strong competitions between target signals and clutter signals on the ground, and low speed of moving targets. Contrary to the case that a delay canceller is mostly suitable for ground surveillance radars, DPCA (Displaced Phase Centered Antenna) or STAP (Space Time Adaptive Processing) techniques have been adapted for GMT! function of modem airborne radars. In this paper, anew scheme of DPCA using two passive antennas with vertical separation is proposed, which also provides good clutter cancellation performance. The proposed scheme enables us to scan straight ahead of the carrying platform that is impossible with typical DPCA configuration. Simulations using various conditions have been performed to validate the proposed scheme, and the results are acceptable.

  • Some signals, such as in radar system, are transmitted as periodic pulse trains. If more than one pulse train are transmitted over the same communication channel, a problem is to separate them for source identification and extract each pulse train at the receiver. This is known as pulse train deinterleaving. In this paper, we present an approach for deinterleaving the pulse trains and extracting their periods combining the estimation of the frequency of each pulse train by DFT, CDIF/SDIF histogram and Sequence Search technique. Also, we present the result of deinterleaving pulse trains and extracting PRI in the complex environment which multiple signals are interleaved.

  • The guided missile carries its own tracking radar to detect its target under noisy environments. The enemy warship uses the anti-missile electric-countermeasure(ECM) technique, such as chaff or decoy, so that the approaching guided missile could not destroy it. In this paper we propose the identification algorithm of a target signal when the enemy warship uses the chaff and decoy to deceive the guided missile. In the proposed scheme the mean square errors(MSE) between the received signals and the reference decoy signal, and between the received signals and the reference chaff signal are calculated. Then, the received signal which results in the maximum MSE is regarded as a warship signal. The performance of the proposed algorithm is verified through the computer simulation.

  • For high quality image acquisition, compensating air-vehicle motion is essential for airborne SAR system. This paper describes a timing control based motion compensation method for airborne SAR system. Efficient timing control is critical for SAR system since it maintains many timing signals and timing setting for the signals should be updated frequently. This paper proposes Timing Cluster method as an efficient means for timing control of SAR system. Moreover, this paper suggests a simple and efficient method to compensate air-vehicle motion based on the Timing Cluster method. Timing Cluster method enables SAR system to control the timing in a timing noncritical way just maintaining little amount of information.

  • The satellite navigation deception technology disturbs the navigation solution of the receiver by generating a deceptive signal simulating the actual satellite for the satellite navigation receiver mounted on the unmanned aerial vehicle, which is the target of deception. A single spoofing technique that creates a single deceptive position and velocity can be divided into a synchronized spoofing signal that matches the code delay, Doppler frequency, and navigation message with the real satellite and an unsynchronized spoofing signal that does not match. In order to generate a signal synchronized with a satellite signal, a very sophisticated and high precision signal generation technology is required. In addition, the current position and speed of the UAV equipped with the receiver must be accurately detected in real time. Considering the detection accuracy of the current radar technology that detects small UAVs, it is difficult to detect UAVs with an accuracy of less than one chip. In this paper, we assume the asynchrony of a single spoofing signal and propose a region defense technique using multiple spoofing signals.
