Calculation of the Least Significant Change Value of Bone Densitometry Using a Dual-Energy X-ray Absorptiometry System

  • Purpose: The precision error of a bone density meter reflects the equipment and reproducibility of results by an examiner. Precision error values can be expressed as coefficient of variation (CV), CV%, and root mean square-SD (RMS-SD). The International Society for Clinical Densitometry (ISCD) currently recommends using RMS-SD as the precision error value. When a 95% confidence interval is applied, the least significant change (LSC) value is calculated by multiplying the precision error value by 2.77. Exceeding the LSC value reflects a significant difference in measured bone density. Therefore, the LSC value of a bone density equipment is an essential factor for accurately determining a patient's bone density. Accordingly, we aimed to calculate the LSC value of a bone density meter (Lunar iDXA, GE) and compare it with the value recommended by the ISCD. We also assessed whether the value measured by the iDXA equipment was below the LSC value recommended by ISCD. Material and Methods: The bone densities of the lumbar spine and thighs of 30 participants were measured twice, and the LSC values were calculated using the precision calculation tool provided by the ISCD (http://www.iscd.org). To check the reproducibility of the measurement, patients were asked to completely dismount from the equipment after the first measurement; the patient was then repositioned before proceeding with the second measurement. Results: The LSC values derived using the CV% values recommended by the ISCD were 5.3% for the lumbar spine and 5.0% for the thigh. The LSC values measured using our bone density equipment were 2.47% for the lumbar spine and 1.61% for the thigh. The LSC value using RMS-SD was 0.031 g/cm2 for the lumbar spine and 0.017 g/cm2 for the thigh. Conclusion: that the findings confirm that the CV% value measured using our bone density meter and the LSC value using RMS-SD were maintained very stably. This can be helpful for obtaining accurate measurements during bone density follow-up examinations.

  • This study was carried out to measure the 3D-distance of a cow model teat for an application possibility on Robotic Milking System(RMS). A teat recognition algorithm was made to find 3D-distance of the model by using Gonzalrez's theory. Some of the results are as follows. 1 . In the distance measurement experiment on the test board, as the measured length, and the length between the center of image surface and the measured image point became longer, their error values increased. 2. The model teat was installed and measured the error value at the random position. The error value of X and Y coordinates was less than 5㎜, and that of Z coordinates was less than 20㎜. The error value increased as the distance of camera's increased. 3. The equation for distance information acquirement was satisfied with obtaining accurate distance that was necessary for a milking robot to trace teats, A teat recognition algorithm was recognized well four model cow teats. It's processing time was about 1 second. It appeared that a teat recognition algorithm could be used to determine the 3D-distance of the cow teat to develop a RMS.

  • A novel and simple algorithm for accurate calculation of RMS voltage is proposed in a digitally controlled grid-tie inverter system. Given that the actual frequency of grid voltage is continuously changing, the constant sampling frequency cannot be a multiple number of the fundamental frequency. Therefore, the RMS of grid voltage contains periodic oscillations due to the differences in the phase angle of sampled data during calculation. The proposed algorithm precisely calculates and updates the initial phase angle of the first sampled voltage in a half-cycle period using phase-locked loop, which is commonly utilized for phase angle detection in grid-tie inverter systems. The accuracy and dynamic performance of the proposed algorithm are compared with those of other algorithms through various simulations and experiments.

  • In this paper, a detailed investigation of the random vibration test is presented for strapdown inertial navigation systems (INS). The effect of the random vibration test has been studied from the point of view of navigation performance. The role of distribution functions and RMS value is represented to determine a feasible method to reject or reduce vibration related error in position and velocity estimation in inertial navigation. According to a survey conducted by the authors, this is the first time that the effect of the distribution function in vibration related error has been investigated in random vibration testing of INS. Recorded data of navigation grade INS is used in offline static navigation to examine the effect of different characteristics of random vibration tests on navigation error.

화학적산소요구량의 총유기탄소 변환을 위한 이상자료의 탐지와 처리 (Outlier Detection and Treatment for the Conversion of Chemical Oxygen Demand to Total Organic Carbon)

  • 총유기탄소(TOC)는 해양의 탄소순환 연구분야에서 직접적인 생물학적 지표로 이용되는 중요한 인자다. 가용한 TOC 자료가 상대적으로 화학적산소요구량(COD) 자료 보다 부족하기 때문에 COD 자료를 활용하여 TOC 자료를 추정할 수 있다. COD를 TOC 로의 변환 시 TOC 추정에 직접적으로 영향을 미치는 COD 관측자료에 포함된 이상자료의 탐지와 적절한 처리는 합리적이고 객관적으로 수행되어야 한다. 본 연구에서는 국내 연안해역에서 관측된 염분, COD 및 TOC 자료에 대한 최적회귀모형을 제시하였다. 최적회귀모형은 이상자료와 영향자료를 여러 가지 탐색방법으로 진단하여 제거 전 후의 자료 개수 변화, 변동계수 및 RMS 오차를 비교 및 분석하여 선택하였다. 연구수행 결과, Cook의 진단방법과 SIQR의 boxplot 방법을 조합한 방법이 가장 적절한 것으로 파악되었다. 최적 회귀 함수는 TOC(mg/L) = $0.44{\cdot}COD(mg/L)+1.53$ 이고, 결정계수는 0.47 정도로 나타났으며, RMS 오차는 0.85 mg/L이다. RMS 오차와 지레계수(leverage values)의 변동계수는 이상자료 제거 전에 비하여 각각 31%, 80%로 크게 감소되었다. 본 연구에서 제시된 방법을 통해 COD와 TOC 관측자료에 포함된 이상자료와 영향자료의 과도한 영향을 진단 및 제거하였기 때문에 보다 적절한 회귀곡선식을 제시할 수 있었다.

Performance Improvement of Near Earth Space Survey (NESS) Wide-Field Telescope (NESS-2) Optics

  • We modified the optical system of 500 mm wide-field telescope of which point spread function showed an irregularity. The telescope has been operated for Near Earth Space Survey (NESS) located at Siding Spring Observatory (SSO) in Australia, and the optical system was brought back to Korea in January 2008. After performing a numerical simulation with the tested value of surface figure error of the primary mirror using optical design program, we found that the surface figure error of the mirror should be fabricated less than root mean square (RMS) $\lambda$/10 in order to obtain a stellar full width at half maximum (FWHM) below $28\;{\mu}m$. However, we started to figure the mirror for the target value of RMS $\lambda$/20, because system surface figure error would be increased by the error induced by the optical axis adjustment, mirror cell installation, and others. The radius of curvature of the primary mirror was 1,946 mm after the correction. Its measured surface figure error was less than RMS $\lambda$/20 on the table of polishing machine, and RMS $\lambda$/15 after installation in the primary mirror cell. A test observation performed at Daeduk Observatory at Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute by utilizing the exiting mount, and resulted in $39.8\;{\mu}m$ of stellar FWHM. It was larger than the value from numerical simulation, and showed wing-shaped stellar image. It turned out that the measured-curvature of the secondary mirror, 1,820 mm, was not the same as the designed one, 1,795.977 mm. We fabricated the secondary mirror to the designed value, and finally obtained a stellar FWHM of $27\;{\mu}m$ after re-installation of the optical system into SSO NESS Observatory in Australia.

  • A prototype of the GMT FSM has been developed to acquire and to enhance the key technology - mirror fabrication and tip-tilt actuation. The ellipsoidal off-axis mirror has been designed, analyzed, and fabricated from light-weighting to grinding, polishing, and figuring of the mirror surface. The mirror was tested by using an interferometer together with CGHs, which revealed the surface error of 13.7 nm rms in the diameter of 1030 mm. The SCOTS test was employed to independently validate the test results. It measured the surface error to be 17.4 nm rms in the diameter of 1010 mm. Both tests show the optical surface of the FSMP mirror within the required value of 20 nm rms surface error.

  • The purpose of research is to measure power and dynamic resistance value through RMS module. Specially designed RMS-DC hardware module was tested. Its output which is obtained every half cycle was compared with that of commercial weld checker. The results show good agreement and the relative error in the measurement was found to be around 5%.

  • 본 논문에서는, 선형 주기적 시변 시스템에 대해서, 두 개의 입출력 이득을 정의한다. 그 하나는 단위 크기의 ι$_2$노름을 갖는 모든 입력에 대한 최악의 $\iota_2$ 노름의 출력의 비로서, G($\iota_2,\iota_2$ 로 표기한다. 또 다른 하나는 단위 크기의 RMS 값을 갖는 모든 입력에 대한 최악의 RMS 값의 출력의 비로서, G(RMS, RMS)로 표기한다. 선형 시불변 시스템에 대해서는 이 두 개의 이득은 등가라는 사실이 잘 알려져 있다. 본 논문에서는 선형 주기적 시변 시스템에 대해서도 이 두 개의 이득이 등가라는 것을 증명한다. 또한, 선형 주기적 시변 시스템에 대한 주파수 응답을 얻는 두 가지 방법 사이의 관계를 유도한다. 이렇게 정의된 입출력 이득은 M-채널 필터 뱅크에 적용한다. 필터 뱅크는 음성 압축 등에 사용되는 대표적인 다중비 신호처리 시스템이다. 이러한 필터뱅크에는 일반적으로 에일리어징 왜곡, 진폭 왜곡 및 위상 왜곡이 존재한다. 본 논문에서는 오차 시스템의 G($\iota_2,\iota_2$ 이득을 최적화 하는 방법에 의해 필터 뱅크를 설계함으로써, 필터 뱅크에서 일반적으로 존재하는 왜곡을 작게할 수 있음을 보인다.

수종의 치과용 스캐너로 채득된 3차원 치아 모형의 반복측정 안정성 평가 연구 (A Study on the Evaluation of Repeated Measurement Stability of 3D Tooth Model Obtained by Several Dental Scanners)

  • 연구의 목적은 치과용 스캐너의 반복측정 안정성 비교를 통해 영향을 미치는 스캐너의 요소를 평가하는 것이다. 연구 목적을 달성하고자 청색광을 사용하는 I사의 스캐너와 광학 방식을 사용하는 Z사의 스캐너 그리고 백색광을 사용하는 D사의 스캐너를 본 연구의 반복측정 안정성 연구에 사용하였다. 측정 결과는 root mean square (RMS)로 계산하였고 one-way ANOVA 통계기법을 적용하여 유의수준을 확인하였다(𝛼=.05). 통계분석 결과 가장 큰 RMS 값을 가지는 스캐너는 Z-opt 그룹으로 38.2 ㎛이었다. 다음으로는 D-white가 35.2 ㎛로 나타났고, 가장 RMS 값이 적은 그룹은 I-blue 그룹으로 34.1 ㎛이었다. 각 그룹간에 RMS 평균을 비교한 결과는 유의하지 않은 것으로 나타났다(p>.05). 이 결과로부터 청색광, 백색광 그리고 광학 방식의 스캐너에서는 반복측정 안정성에서 청색광의 오차가 가장 낮은 것으로 나타났으나 통계적 유의성은 없었다. 연구결과 임상적 허용 가능하다는 것이 본 연구의 결론이다.
