Minimum Distance Search Algorithms of LDPC Codes and RA Codes (LDPC 부호와 RA 부호의 최소 거리 검색 알고리즘)

  • In this paper, we reduce the computational complexity to find the minimum distance of RA codes by searching only valid codewords using repetition part. Since LDPC codes have repetition part like RA codes, we also apply this algorithm for computing the minimum distance of LDPC codes. The minimum distance dominates the code performance at high signal-to-noise ratios(SNRs) and in turn allows an estimate of the error floor. The proposed algorithm computes the minimum distance without any constraint on code structures. The minimum distances of LDPC codes and RA codes with large interleavers of practical importance are computed and used to obtain the error floor, which is compared with the performance of the iterative decoding.

  • In order to transmit information in a channel environment in which noise exists, a coding technique of information is required. One of the coding techniques used for error detection and correction close to the Shannon limit is Low Density Parity Code(LDPC). LDPC and decoding characteristic features by Sum-product algorithm are matched for the performance to Turbo Code, RA(Repeat Accumulate) code, in case of very long code length of LDPC surpass their performance. This paper explains LDPC coding scheme of image data and decoding scheme, implements LDPC decoder in FPGA.

  • In this paper, we propose the performance improvement technique using convolutional codes for T-DMB watermarking system. By applying the channel coding, the error performance is improved and the capacity of additional data is increased. We certified availability of our proposed technology by using various simulation.

  • The wireless communication based on LDPC and adaptive spatial-subcarrier coded modulation using MQAM for orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) wireless transmission by using instantaneous channel state information and employing multiple antennas at both the transmitter and the receiver. Adaptive coded modulation is a promising idea for bandwidth-efficient transmission on time-varying, narrowband wireless channels. On power limited Additive White Gaussian Noise (AWGN) channels, low density parity check (LDPC) codes are a class of error control codes which have demonstrated impressive error correcting qualities, under some conditions performing even better than turbo codes. The paper demonstrates OFDM with LDPC and adaptive modulation applied to Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) system. An optimization algorithm to obtain a bit and power allocation for each subcarrier assuming instantaneous channel knowledge is used. The experimental results are shown the potential of our proposed system.

  • Vector quantization for image compression needs expensive encoding time to find the closest codeword to the input vector. This paper proposes a search algorithm for fast vector quantization encoding. Firstly, we derive a robust condition based on the efficient topological structure of the codebook to dramatically eliminate unnecessary matching operations from the search procedure. Then, we Propose a fast search algorithm using the elimination condition. Simulation results show that with little preprocessing and memory cost, the encoding time of the proposed algorithm is reduced significantly while the encoding quality remains the same with respect to the full search algorithm. It is also found that the Proposed algorithm outperforms the existing search algorithms.

  • A highly reliable Video Transmission System (VTS) was developed in order to obtain both video and digital data simultaneously in the real time flight test situation of a flying vehicle. The VTS integrates GPS data, digital telemetry data and video signals into a compact digital data package which is compressed and processed by an MPEG-2 Encoder and a DVB-S modulator respectively. The DVB-S modulator is composed of a specially devised Forward Error Correction processor and base band QPSK modulator. The designed VTS was verified and proved for its required functioning and performance through separate flight tests using an airplane and missiles.

  • Efficient implementation of pre-filtering has been an important issue in video sequence coding, because it can remove camera noise and improve coding efficiency dramatically This paper introduces a novel pre-filtering scheme that is performed inside a video encoder The proposed pre-filtering is based on the approximated generalized Wiener filtering and two-dimensional discrete cosine transform (DCT) factorization. and is achieved by scaling the DCT coefficients of original image blocks for intra block coding and those of motion-compensated error blocks for inter block coding, respectively Even though the pre-filtering operation is embedded in a video encoder, its additional computational complexity is marginal compared to the encoding process, and the overall architecture of the conventional video encoder is maintained In spite of its simplicity, the proposed pre-filtering scheme provides good filtering and coding performance for noisy video sequences.

A Fast Decision Method of Quadtree plus Binary Tree (QTBT) Depth in JEM (차세대 비디오 코덱(JEM)의 고속 QTBT 분할 깊이 결정 기법)

  • The Joint Exploration Model (JEM), which is a reference SW codec of the Joint Video Exploration Team (JVET) exploring the future video standard technology, provides a recursive Quadtree plus Binary Tree (QTBT) block structure. QTBT can achieve enhanced coding efficiency by adding new block structures at the expense of largely increased computational complexity. In this paper, we propose a fast decision algorithm of QTBT block partitioning depth that uses the rate-distortion (RD) cost of the upper and current depth to reduce the complexity of the JEM encoder. Experimental results showed that the computational complexity of JEM 5.0 can be reduced up to 21.6% and 11.0% with BD-rate increase of 0.7% and 1.2% in AI (All Intra) and RA (Random Access), respectively.

Container BIC-code region extraction and recognition method using multiple thresholding (다중 이진화를 이용한 컨테이너 BIC 부호 영역 추출 및 인식 방법)

  • The container BIC-code is a transport protocol for convenience in international shipping and combined transport environment. It is an identification code of a marine transport container which displays a wide variety of information including country's code. Recently, transportation through aircrafts and ships continues to rise. Thus fast and accurate processes are required in the ports to manage transportation. Accordingly, in this paper, we propose a BIC-code region extraction and recognition method using multiple thresholds. In the code recognition, applying a fixed threshold is not reasonable due to a variety of illumination conditions caused by change of weather, lightening, camera position, color of the container and so on. Thus, the proposed method selects the best recognition result at the final stage after applying multiple thresholds to recognition. For each threshold, we performs binarization, labeling, BIC-code pattern decision (horizontal or vertical pattern) by morphological close operation, and character separation from the BIC-code. Then, each characters is recognized by template matching. Finally we measure recognition confidence scores for all the thresholds and choose the best one. Experimental results show that the proposed method yields accurate recognition for the container BIC-code with robustness to illumination change.
