Knowledge Production Function in South Korea : An Empirical Analysis (우리나라 지식생산함수 : 실증분석)

  • In this paper we estimate knowledge production function for 15 South Korean industry sectors using panel data. To accommodate the influence of inter-sectoral interactions on the creation of knowledge, we estimate parameters for related knowledge production functions using the Dynamic Seemingly Unrelated Regression(DSUR) model proposed by Mark et al. (2005). We find the elasticity of knowledge production with respect to the size of research staff to be 0.25 and that with respect to the existing stock of knowledge to be 0.35. The fact that the elasticity of new knowledge creation with regard to the existing knowledge stock is below 1 in South Korea corroborates the view that the rate of long-term growth of her economy is chiefly determined by the elasticity related to production functions of goods and services and the rate of population growth, and that her government policy, to ensure a continued growth for the Korean economy, must shift the focus of R&D policies from the current direct intervention-centered model to one consisting of indirect measures, namely supporting knowledge management and diffusion and the creation of a knowledge sharing system. In terms of R&D policy implications it could be consider that the national knowledge production system should strengthen the cumulative process of knowledge accumulation and population for research and development. Our country R&D policy, also, need to adopt a global approach to increase knowledge stock at the highest levels of a country.

  • Orthostatic stress in human cardiovascular system following spaceflight remains a critical problem in the current lifercience space program. The study presented in this paper is part of an ongoing effort to use mathematical models to investigate the effects of gravitational stresses on the cardiovascular system of normals and microgravity adapted individuals. We employ a twelve compartment lumped parameter representation of the hemodynamic system coupled to set-point models of the arterial baroreflex and the cardiopulmonary reflex to investigate the transient response of heart rate to orthostatic stress. We simulate current hypotheses concerning the mechanisms underlying postspaceflight orthostatic intolerance over a range of physiologically reasonable values and compare the simulations to astronaut stand-test data pre-and postflight.

  • Speech material, which is collected from ARS(Automatic Response System), was analyzed and classified into disease and non-disease state. The material include 11 different kinds of diseases. Along with ARS speech, DAT(Digital Audio Tape) speech is collected in parallel to give the bench mark. To analyze speech material, analysis tools, which is developed local laboratory, are used to provide an improved and robust performance to the obtained parameters. To classify speech into disease and non-disease class, multi-layered neural network was used. Three different combinations of 3, 6, 12 parameters are tested to obtain the proper network size and to find the best performance. From the experiment, the classification rate of 92.5% was obtained.

  • Micro jetting drop inspection system is essential to measuring micro drop volume. Measuring pico-liter drop volume is useful for new LCD color filter product process that is based on inkjet printing technology. To upgrade the reliability in drop measurement system, we use the auto focusing & multi drop reiteration & blurring average algorism. First of all we used standard mark for gage R&R in the vision system. Finding the most suitable threshold for multi blurring drop, is the main key of this research. Sensitivity of vision system is a standard in measuring the upgrade system level. So, suitable threshold can upgrade the performance of jetting drop inspection system.

  • 과학 기술의 세계화는 기업간의 기술적 전략 동맹 등을 포함하는 R&D 활동의 초국가화 현상을 말한다. 이를 통해 기업들은 R&D에 부수되는 비용 및 위험의 분산뿐 아니라 기술의 이전, 제품의 표준화, 시장의 확보 등을 도모하고 있다. 따라서 과학 기술 세계화에 내재되어 있는 여러 문제점에도 불구하고 세계화의 추세는 다가오는 21세기에도 크게 확산될 전망이다. 그러나 과학 기술의 세계화에 따라 각 개별국의 과학 기술 정책이 여타국에 큰 영향을 미치게 되고, 이것이 국가간의 마찰 요인이 될 수도 있다는 우려와 함께 과학 기술 정책과 관련된 '국제 규범(New Rules of Game)' 수립의 필요성이 선진국을 중심으로 논의되고 있다. 또한, 과학 기술의 국제화, 세계화가 세계 시장을 왜곡시킬 수도 있다는 견해와 함께 이를 감시할 새로운 국제 기구를 설치하여야 할 것이라는 주장도 있다. 따라서, 앞으로의 과학 기술 국제 질서는 국가간 협력의 형태나 운영 방식에 따라 크게 내용을 달리 할 수 있을 것이다.

Relation ship between Health Perception and Health Status of Clinical Nurses (임상간호사의 건강지각과 건강상태의 관계)

  • The purpose of study was to find out the relation ship between health perception and health status of clinical nurses. It also identified factors that related to health perception and health status of clinical nurses. The research design was descriptive correlational study. The subjects were consisted of 289 clinical nurses at the university hospital in Pusan. The data were collected from Feb. 12th to Feb. 28th, 2001 by self reporting structured questionnaires. The instruments used for this study were health perception questionnaire developed by Ware and Cornell Medical Index modified by Nam Ho-Chang (1965) for measuring health status. The data were analyzed by SPSS/PC+ program using frequency, percentage, mean, mean mark, standard deviation, t-test, ANOVA, Scheffe test, and Pearson's correlation coefficient. The results of this study were as follows. 1. The mean score of the health perception was $94.70{\pm}8.93$(range : 29-145), which the item mean mark score was $3.27{\pm}$0.31(range 1-5). The score of subarea of the health perception was the highest score in health concern ($4.57{\pm}0.58$) and the lowest score in rejection of sick role($2.94{\pm}0.32$). 2. The mean score of the health status was $102.83{\pm}7.61$(range: 57-114), which the item mean mark score was $1.80{\pm}0.13$ (range : 1-2). The mean mark score of the physical health status was $62.55{\pm}5.35$($1.69{\pm}0.14$) and the mental health status was $40.28{\pm}3.51$($1.83{\pm}0.16$). 3. There were statistically significant difference in the score of health perception according to the presence of disease(F=4.607, P=.011), job satisfaction (F=12.242, P=.000), and job place(F=2.838, P=.038). 4. There were statistically significant difference in the score of health status according to the age(F=3.164, P=.007), presence of leisure time(F=4.308, P=.039), presence of diseases(F=3.215, P=.042), job experience(F=9.064, P=.000), job satisfaction(F=7.182, P=.001), job place (F=5.638, P=.001), job position (F=3.900, P=.021). 5. Health perception of clinical nurse was shown to be positively related to health status(r=.543, p=.000). In conclusion, health perception of clinical nurse working at the university hospital was relatively high, and health status was fine. And the more health perception was high, the more health status was high. Therefore, the health promotion program for clinical nurses, should included health perception.

The Developing and Applying of the R.G.B. Technique for Combined Thinking Learning in the Elementary Science Classes (초등과학 수업에서 통합적 사고 학습을 위한 R.G.B. 기법 개발 및 적용)

  • The purpose of this study was to research applying possibility of the R.G.B. technique for combined thinking learning in the elementary science classes. For this, R.G.B. technique which was designed to mark students' output with red, green and blue colors depending one's judgement was developed and applied in elementary science classes. The results were follows. Firstly, the propriety of questionnaires constitution which was developed to achieve study objects in science classes was given credit by experts. Secondly, the evaluating results of student's outputs which had been done during science classes were credible on focused achieving the objects of science classes. Thirdly, in a point of view achieving creative thinking skill as well as knowledge, R.G.B. technique was effective. Fourthly, the combined thinking learning joined R.G.B. technique has possibility of applying to general science classes. Fifthly, the students who were participating in combined thinking learning science classes based on R.G.B. technique said with great satisfaction. Consequently, combined thinking learning based on R.G.B. technique should be paid attention to the value of possibility to achieve study effects both creative thinking skill and knowledge.

Growth of Ammodytes personatus in the South Sea, Korea (남해 신수도 연안에 분포하는 까나리(Ammodytes personatus)의 성장)

  • Growth of Ammodytes personatus was investigated based on the specimens collected in the costal waters of Shinsudo, Sacheon from March 20 to December 14, 1988. Age determination based on otolith. The rings in the otolith were used as the basis for age annulus. The time of ring formation was estimated to one time per year in May far 1st ring group and March for 2nd ring group. The spawning season peaked in December. It takes approximately 16 months for the first ring and 11 months for the second ring to form in the otolith. The opaque zone was formed and marked over summer at 1st ring group and spawning mark at 2nd ring group. The relationship between the total length(TL) and otolith radius(R), and body weight(BW) were represented respectively as follows: TL=29.17+182.9R, BW=$4.9{\times}10^{-8}TL^{3.9587}$. Von Bertalanffy growth model is $TL_t$ = 177.273 ($1_e^{-0.040(t+7.332)}$), Robertson growth model is $TL_t=\frac{150.275}{1+2.085e^{-0.099t}}$ and Gompertz growth model is $TL_t=157.551e^{-1.214exp(-0.069t)}$.
