  • Consider a symmetric bilinear form defined on $\prod\times\prod$ by $_{\lambda\mu}$ = $<\sigma,fg>\;+\;\lambdaL[f](a)L[g](a)\;+\;\muM[f](b)m[g](b)$ ,where $\sigma$ is a quasi-definite moment functional, L and M are linear operators on $\prod$, the space of all real polynomials and a,b,$\lambda$ , and $\mu$ are real constants. We find a necessary and sufficient condition for the above bilinear form to be quasi-definite and study various properties of corresponding orthogonal polynomials. This unifies many previous works which treated cases when both L and M are differential or difference operators. finally, infinite order operator equations having such orthogonal polynomials as eigenfunctions are given when $\mu$=0.

  • The novel voltammetry using a semi-circular potential wave for quasi-reversible charge transfer system on electrode is theoretically investigated. Compared with conventional voltammetry based on linear sweep such as linear sweep voltammetry (LSV), semi-circular potential sweep voltammetry (SCV) may decrease the charging current outside the center of potential range and increase the faradaic current at the midpoint due to variable scan rate. In this paper, we investigate the system based on macroelectrode where simple 1 dimensional (1 D) diffusion system is valid with various charge transfer rate constant (k0). In order to observe the amplification at midpoint, voltammetric response with different midpoint ranging from -200 mV to 200 mV are studied. SCVs shows both the shift of peak potential and the amplification of peak current for quasi-reversible electrode reaction while only higher peak current is observed for reversible reaction. Moreover, the higher current at midpoint enable the amplification of current at low overpotential region which may assist the determination of onset potential as a figure-of-merit in electrocatalyst.

  • Many queueing systems such as M/M/s/K retrial queue with impatient customers, MAP/PH/1 retrial queue, retrial queue with two types of customers and MAP/M/$\infty$ queue can be modeled by a level dependent quasi-birth-death(LDQBD) process with linear transition rates of the form ${\lambda}_k$={\alpga}{+}{\beta}k$ at each level $\kappa$. The purpose of this paper is to propose an algorithm to find transient distributions for LDQBD processes with linear transition rates based on the adaptive uniformization technique introduced by van Moorsel and Sanders [11]. We apply the algorithm to some retrial queues and present numerical results.

  • Vibration of a non-linear system under random parametric excitations was evaluated by probablistic methods. The non-linear characteristic terms of a system were quasi-linearized and excitation terms were remained as they were given. An analytical method where the square mean of error was minimized was ysed. An alternative method was an energy method where the damping energy and rstoring energy of the linearized system were equalized to those of the original non-linear system. The numerical results were compared with those obtained by Monte Carlo simulation. The comparison showed the results obtained by Monte Carlo simulation located between those by the analytical method and those by the energy method.

  • In present study, we suggested the quasi-linear model that linearizes the quadratic drag representing the energy loss across the porous plate. The quasi-linear model was solved by Boundary Element Method (BEM) for development of the porous wave absorber suitable for 2-D wave tank. The drag coefficient at the porous plate was newly obtained through comparison of experimental results. It is found that the porous wave absorber with porosity 0.1, submergence depth d/h = 0.1, and inclined angle $10^{\circ}{\leq}{\theta}{\leq}20^{\circ}$ shows the effective wave absorption. Using the developed quasi-linear numerical model, the optimal design of various types of a porous wave absorber will be applied.

  • This paper presents a numerical simulation of quasi-brittle fracture in UHPFRC I-beam. A linear complementarity problem (LCP) is used to formulate the path-dependent hardening-softening behavior in non-holonomic rate form, and the PATH solver is employed to solve the LCP.

  • An exact solution of the lossy linear tapered transmission line is derived. As its application, a simple design method of the quasi non-distortion lossy linear tapered transmission line in the time domain is described. A design example is presented to show the validity and usefulness of the method.

  • In this paper, we propose a new approach to sequential linear regression adaptation of continuous density hidden Markov models (CDHMMs) based on transformation space model (TSM). The proposed TSM which characterizes the a priori knowledge of the training speakers associated with maximum likelihood linear regression (MLLR) matrix parameters is effectively described in terms of the latent variable models. The TSM provides various sources of information such as the correlation information, the prior distribution, and the prior knowledge of the regression parameters that are very useful for rapid adaptation. The quasi-Bayes (QB) estimation algorithm is formulated to incrementally update the hyperparameters of the TSM and regression matrices simultaneously. Experimental results showed that the proposed TSM approach is better than that of the conventional quasi-Bayes linear regression (QBLR) algorithm for a small amount of adaptation data.

  • In bioassay, the response curve is usually assumed monotone increasing, but its exact form is unknown, so it is very difficult to select the proper functional form for the parametric model. Therefore, we should probably use the nonparametric regression model rather than the parametric model unless we have at least the partial information about the true response curve. However, it is well known that the nonparametric regression estimate is not necessarily monotone. Therefore the monotonizing transformation technique is of course required. In this paper, we compare the finite sample properties of the monotone transformation methods which can be applied to the local linear quasi-likelihood response curve estimate.

  • We consider finite element methods applied to a class of quasi parabolic integro-differential equations in $R^d$. Global strong superconvergence, which only requires that partitions are quasi-uniform, is investigated for the error between the approximate solution and the Sobolev-Volterra projection of the exact solution. Two order superconvergence results are demonstrated in $W^{1,p}(\Omega)\;and\;L_p(\Omega)$, for $2\;{\leq}p\;<\;{\infty}$.
