Analysis of dry friction hysteresis in a cable under uniform bending

  • A cable is considered as a system of helical wires and a core with distributed dry friction forces at their interfaces. Deformations of the cable subjected to a uniform bending are analyzed. It is shown that there is a critical bending curvature when a slip at the wire-core interface occurs. It originates at the neutral axis of the cross section of the cable and then spreads symmetrically over the cross section with the increase of bending. The effect of slippage on the cable stiffness is investigated. This model is also used to analyze a cable under the quasi-static cyclic bending. Explicit expression for the hysteretic losses per cycle of bending is derived. Numerical examples are given to show the influence of dry friction and helix angle on the bending stiffness and hysteretic losses in the cable.

  • 본 논문에서는 독립적이며 주파수 비선택적인 정적 MIMO Rayleigh 페이딩 채널 가정 하에 다중사용자 다이버시티가 적용된 MRT/MRC MIMO의 capacity bound를 closed-form 형태의 수식으로 표현하였다. 분석 결과는 수치 검증 결과와 정확히 일치하며 MRT/MRC가 다중 사용자 다이버시티에 미치는 영향을 명확히 보여준다.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the behavior characteristics of new hollow reinforced concrete (RC) bridge pier sections with triangular reinforcement details and to provide the details and reference data. Among the numerous parameters, this study concentrates on the shape of the section, the reinforcement details and the spacing of the transverse reinforcement. Additional eight column section specimens were tested under quasi-static monotonic loading. In this study, the computer program, named RCAHEST (Reinforced Concrete Analysis in Higher Evaluation System Technology), was used. A innovative confining effect model was adopted for new hollow bridge pier sections. This study documents the testing of new hollow RC bridge pier sections with triangular reinforcement details and presents conclusions based on the experimental and analytical findings.

  • 이성분 혼합물의 응고중에 수지상 결정으로 이루어진 mush 층이 형성될 수 있다. 본 연구진이 개발한 전파이론으로 mush 층에서 성분적 대류의 발생을 해석하였다. Emms와 Fowler의 모델로부터 유도한 자기유사 안정성 방정식을 사용하여 대류 발생에 대한 임계 Rayleigh 수를 수치방법으로 계산하였다. 과열량이 아주 크거나 mush 층의 성장률이 아주 작은 극한의 경우에 본 연구 결과는 준정적 안정성 해석 결과와 같아진다.

  • A closed loop system with a linear plant and nonlinearity in the feedback connection is analyzed for its quasi-static orbital stability by a state-space approach. First a periodic orbit is assumed to exist in the loop which is determined by describing function method for the given nonlinearity. This is possible by selecting a proper nonlinearity and a rigorous justification of the describing function method.[1-3, 18, 20]. Then by introducing residual operator, a linear perturbed model can be formulated. Using various transformations like a modified eigenstructure decomposition, periodic-averaging, charge of variables and coordinate transformation, the stability of the periodic orbit, as a solution of harmonic balance, can be shown by investigating a simple scalar function and result of linear algebra.   • Meshfree approximations exhibit significant Potential to solve partial differential equations. Meshfree methods have been successfully applied to various problems which the traditional finite element methods have difficulties to handle including the quasi-static and dynamic fracture, large deformation problems, contact problems, and strain localization problems. Reproducing Kernel Particle Method (RKPM) is used in this research fur to its built-in feature of multi-resolution. the sound mathematical foundation and good numerical performance. A formulation of RKPM is reviewed and numerical examples are given to verify the accuracy of the proposed meshfree method for largely deformed elasto-plastic material.

  • An accumulated crack damage which propagates progressively with time was frequently observed on several engineering structures, This paper numerically demonstrates this damage process on large cooling tower shells under thermal and wind loads. Damage states under varying loads are investigated and the influence of this progressive damage process on the life-cycle of cooling towers discussed. The paper presents briefly some fundamentals of the geometrically and physically non-linear numerical analysis employed for reinforced concrete, especially concerning the models used for concrete, steel reinforcement and the bond between them. As a numerical example an existing cooling tower with noticeable meridian crack damage is analysed. The existing damage state of the cooling tower is determined by quasi-static analyses for temperature, hygric and cyclic wind leading. The change in the dynamical behaviour of the structure as mirrored in its natural frequencies and mode shapes is presented and discussed. Finally, the example shows that such damage processes develop progressively over the life-time of the structures.

  • The large mass method for dynamic analysis of statically determinate beams subjected to in-phase support motions is justified by showing that the equation of motion of the beams under consideration is equivalent to that of large mass model of the beam when an appropriate large mass ratio is employed. The accuracy of the stress responses based on the beam large mass method is investigated through careful numerical tests. The numerical results are compared to analytic solutions and the comparison shows that the large mass method yields not only the time history of motion but also the distributions of bending moment and shear force accurately.

파랑 중 계류된 스파 플랫폼의 시간영역 해석 (Time Domain Analysis of a Moored Spar Platform in Waves)

  • The Spar platform with deep draft is characterized as effective structure in extreme wave condition, which has larger natural period than that of waves in sea. In this paper, the time domain simulation of motion responses of Spar with catenary mooring line is presented in irregular waves. The memory effect is modeled by added mass at infinite frequency and convolution integrals in terms of wave damping coefficients. The added mass, wave damping coefficients and wave exciting forces are obtained from three-dimensional panel method in the frequency domain. The motion equations are consisted of forces for inertia, memory effect, hydrostatic restoring, wave exciting and mooring line. The forces of mooring line are modeled as quasi-static catenary cable.

  • 본 연구에서는 강재로 구성된 선박충돌방호공의 최대방호능력을 산정하기 위하여 선박과 충돌방호공을 모델링하고 충돌거동을 해석하였다. 이러한 비선형충돌해석은 매우 큰 요소망과 고도의 비선형성을 려해야하기 때문에 이의 해석비용이 일반적인 해석에 비하여 매우 크므로 해석의 경제성을 확보하기 의사정적해석방법을 이용하여 해석을 수행하였다. 이 과정에서 효율적인 해석을 위한 수치 해석기법이 추가되었다. 해석결과 얻어진 선박과 방호공의 에너지소산곡선을 바탕으로 충돌선박이 교량하부구조에 도달하는 시점을 추정하고 이를 바탕으로 대상선박의 최대충돌속도를 산정하였다.
