  • Novelty detection involves identifying novel patterns. They are not usually available during training. Even if they are, the data quantity imbalance leads to a low classification accuracy when a supervised learning scheme is employed. Thus, an unsupervised learning scheme is often employed ignoring those few novel patterns. In this paper, we propose two ways to make use of the few available novel patterns. First, a scheme to determine local thresholds for the Self Organizing Map boundary is proposed. Second, a modification of the Learning Vector Quantization learning rule is proposed so that allows one to keep codebook vectors as far from novel patterns as possible. Experimental results are quite promising.

  • The nearest neighbor classification rule is widely used because it is not only simple but the error rate is asymptotically less than twice Bayes theoretical minimum error. But the method basically use the whole training patterns as the reference vectors. so that both storage and classification time increase as the number of training patterns increases. LVQ(Learning Vector Quantization) resolved this problem by training the reference vectors instead of just storing the whole training patterns. But it is a heuristic algorithm which has no theoretic background there is no terminating condition and it requires a lot of iterations to get to meaningful result. This paper is to propose a new training method of the reference vectors. which minimize the given error function. The nearest neighbor network, the network version of the nearest neighbor classification rule is proposed. The network is funtionally identical to the nearest neighbor classification rule is proposed. The network is funtionally identical to the nearest neighbor classification rule and the reference vectors are represented by the weights between the nodes. The network is trained to minimize the error function with respect to the weights by the steepest descent method. The learning algorithm is derived and it is shown that the proposed method can adjust more reference vectors than LVQ in each iteration. Experiment showed that the proposed method requires less iterations and the error rate is smaller than that of LVQ2.

  • In this paper we described an approach to automation of visual inspection of solder joint defects of SMC(Surface Mounted Components) on PCBs(Printed Circuit Board) by using neural network and fuzzy rule-based classification method. Inherently the surface of the solder joints is curved tiny and specular reflective it induces difficulty of taking good image of the solder joints. And the shape of the solder joints tends to greatly vary with the soldering condition and the shapes are not identical to each other even though the solder joints belong to a set of the same soldering quality. This problem makes it difficult to classify the solder joints according to their qualities. Neural network and fuzzy rule-based classification method is proposed to effi-ciently make human-like classification criteria of the solder joint shapes. The performance of the proposed approach is tested on numerous samples of commercial computer PCB boards and compared with the results of the human inspector performance and the conventional Kohonen network.

  • This paper presents a learning rule that weights more on data near decision boundary. This learning rule generates better decision boundary by reducing the effect of outliers on the decision boundary. The proposed learning rule is integrated into IAFC neural network. IAFC neural network is stable to maintain previous learning results and is plastic to learn new data. The performance of the proposed fuzzy neural network is compared with performances of LVQ neural network and backpropagation neural network. The results show that the performance of the proposed fuzzy neural network is better than those of LVQ neural network and backpropagation neural network.

  • A switching control using multiple gains in the fuzzy rule is newly proposed for an abruptly changing hydraulic servo system. The proposed scheme employs fuzzy PID control, where modified input parameters are used, and LVQNN(Learning Vector Quantization Neural Network) as a switching controller (supervisor). Simulation and experimental studies have been carried out to validate and illustrate the proposed controller.

  • This paper proposes a speech recognition based on HMM(Hidden Markov Model) using FSVQ(First Section Vector Quantization) and fuzzy concept. In the proposed paper, we generate codebook of First Section, and then obtain multi-observation sequences by order of large propabilistic values based on fuzzy rule from the codebook of the first section. Thereafter, this observation sequences of first section from codebooks is trained and in case of recognition, a word that has the most highest probability of first section is selected as a recognized word by same concept. Train station names are selected as the target recognition vocabulary and LPC cepstrum coefficients are used as the feature parameters. Besides the speech recognition experiments of proposed method, we experiment the other methods under same conditions and data. Through the experiment results, it is proved that the proposed method based on HMM using FSVQ and fuzzy concept is superior to tile others in recognition rate.

  • This paper discusses the application of a hybrid discretiziation method for the discretization procedure that needs to be included in discrete particle swarm optimization (DPSO) for the problem of allocating PV (photovoltaic) systems onto distribution power systems. For this purpose, this paper proposes a rule-based expert system considering the objective function value and its optimizing speed as the input parameters and applied it to the PV allocation problem including discrete decision variables. For multi-level discretization, this paper adopts a hybrid method combined with a simple rounding and sigmoid funtion based 3-step and 5-step quantization methods, and the application of the rule based expert system proposing the adequate discretization method at each PSO iteration so that the DPSO with the hybrid discretization can provide better performance than the previous DPSO.

  • The object of this parer is on the design of an broad board classifier for connected. Korean digit. Many approaches have been applied in speech recognition systems: parametric vector quantization, dynamic programming and hiden Markov model. In the 80's the neural network method, which is expected to solve complex speech recognition problems, came bach. We have chosen the rule based system for our model. The phoneme-groups that we wish to classify are vowel_like, plosive_like fricative_like, and stop_like.The data used are 1380 connected digits spoken by three untrained male speakers. We have seen 91.5% classification rate.

  • This paper presents a modified Learning Vector Quantization rule to control shunt capacitor banks and feeder voltage regulators in electric distribution systems with Kohonen Neural Network(KNN). The objective of the KNN is on-line decision of the optimal state of shunt capacitor banks and feeder voltage regulators which minimize $I^{2}R$ losses of the distribution system while maintaining all the bus voltages within the limits. The KNN is tested on a distribution system with 30 buses, 5 on-off switchable capacitor banks and a nine tap line voltage regulator.
