Purpose : This study, as the first year project of setting up a community based management system, was attempted for the cancer patients and their family to improve their quality of life; investigating and managing the cancer patients, educating volunteers and connecting the patients with the volunteers were performed. Method and result : The education of managing cancer patients for the volunteers was done once in lune for 2 days to the 80 volunteers. Questions about education effect, volunteer motivation and so on were made up. The survey showed, generally, education satisfaction level was high and a longer education and an intensive course were needed and was suggested that organizing a volunteer community be needed for the continuous further education and systematic management. As the result, after the public health center and volunteers deliberated, a volunteer community consisting of 4 teams, 28 members was organized, launched in Oct. and operated for the cancer patients and their family. For investigating and enrolling the patients, advertising on a local information paper, recommending of local doctors, publicizing by educating the heads of a subdivision of the city, the heads of a neighborhood association and the people in charge of the related local communities such as women's society, and surveying the community by volunteers were performed and the total, 41 patients were registered. Management of cancer patients was carried out by volunteers in a community and in a nursing school. A regional volunteers' community is composed of 23 members and they have worked 87 times, that is 3.8 times per capita on an average. The content of duties is attending the education (41.1%) the most. A volunteers' community of nursing students composed of 12 members have worked 135 times, that is 11.3 times per capita on an average. The content of duties - consulting with patients and home visiting (37.8 %) were the most and survey for investigating the cancer patients was the second. Conclusion : This study has the meaning that this is the guiding attempt in building a community based management system, and especially the achievement of this study is that a regional society organized a volunteer community for the cancer patients by itself and went into action for the cancer patients and their family. Furthermore, to activate this volunteering, it is necessary to keep managing volunteers and running continuing education or the intensive course of the volunteers. Indeed we should let the patients have good impression on this program through publicity and education for the residents to keep track of more cancer patients. For that, systematic and powerful cooperation of a self-administrative organization is required.

As contemporary society has become more complicated, specialized, and segmented, people are experiencing more diverse types of stress. In particular, while several factors associated with job stress have been examined among nurses, who belong to a professional group, the existing research has made no quantitative assessments of stress that reflect temporal differences in individuals. Therefore, the aim of this study is to understand the effects of job stress on alpha-amylase with regard to the working hours of nurses, to assess the variations in jobs stress over time, and provide basic data to improve the quality of nursing services. Ninety nurses working in three shifts in general, emergency, and intensive care wards of a university hospital in D City participated in this study. Salivary alpha-amylase (SAA) was extracted and analyzed at two-hour intervals from 07:00 to 15:00 from nurses on the day shift and from 23:00 to 07:00 from those working the night shift. The SAA level was highest between 23:00 and 01:00 for nurses in general wards ($mean{\pm}S.D.\;39.00{\pm}14.88$) and between 11:00 and 13:00 for those in both intensive care units and emergency wards ($mean{\pm}S.D.\;67.50{\pm}62.93$ and $mean{\pm}S.D.\;39.67{\pm}35.96$, respectively). The characteristic variation in SAA was significant between 23:00 and 01:00 (p < 0.01) and for those in their fifties or older (p < 0.01). The activation ratio of alpha-amylase, a stress reactant, showed an increase when the sympathetic nervous system was activated by mental stress; in addition, job stress was manifested with the effect of awakening at different time segments and at different ages among the nurses. With the aim of raising the level of service based on the nurses maintaining their mental health, it is necessary to focus sharply on the time segment for critical control and to conduct repetitive studies to determine the divisions of eustress critical values as well as to expand the population.

Fall event detection is one of the most common problems for elderly people, especially those living alone because falls result in serious injuries such as joint dislocations, fractures, severe head injuries or even death. In order to prevent falls or fall-related injuries, several previous methods based on video sensor showed low fall detection rates in recent years. To improve this problem and outperform the system performance, this paper presented a novel approach for fall event detection in the elderly using a subtraction between successive difference images and temporal templates in real time environment. The proposed algorithm obtained the successful detection rate of 96.43% and the low false positive rate of 3.125% even though the low-quality video sequences are obtained by a USB PC camera sensor. The experimental results have shown very promising performance in terms of high detection rate and low false positive rate.

With mobile computing, wireless sensor network and sensor technologies, ubiquitous computing services are being realized and could satisfy the feasibility of ubiquitous healthcare to everyone. This u-Healthcare service can improve life quality of human since medical service can be provided to anyone, anytime, and anywhere. To confirm the vision of u-Healthcare service, we've implemented a healthcare system for heart disease patient which is composed of two components. Front-end collects various signals such as temperature, blood pressure, SpO2, and electrocardiogram, etc. As a backend, medical information server accumulates sensing data and performs back-end processing. To simply transfer these sensing values to a medical team may be too trivial. So, we've designed a model based on context awareness for more improved medical service which is based on artificial neural network. Through rigid experiments, we could confirm that the proposed system can provide improved medical service.
This study attempts to analyze medical service factors associated with patients' satisfaction, and its difference between inpatients and outpatients in A medium-sized hospital located in rural area. Questionaries have been collected from 411 patients of 96 inpatients and 315 outpatients. The survey was carried out for 4 weeks, from August 20, 2011. The study found that hospital awareness was only factor related to patients' satisfaction in inpatients. In the case of outpatients, several factors were related to patients' satisfaction. They are included qualified health care providers, infirmary accommodations, staff kindness, hospital awareness, and convenient procedure of treatment and admission. Based on the findings, it is desirable to differentiate the strategy in improving patients' satisfaction between patient type; either inpatient or outpatient to being competitive.

With advances in health care, the cancer survival rate has significantly increased. Even though cancer treatment has finished, cancer survivors may continuously suffer from physical and psychosocial problems. In order to investigate the problems cancer survivors have experienced, a comprehensive rehabilitation program must be developed. This study sought to determine the content and structure of rehabilitation programs for cancer survivors, analyze the effectiveness of such programs, and develop a basis for future comprehensive rehabilitation program development. Through this review, thirteen programs were selected and classified according to exercise, psychosocial, and integrated or comprehensive aspects. Exercise programs improve physical function, fatigue, and hormone-related cancer effects. Psychosocial programs improve quality of life, mood changes such as depression, anxiety, and post traumatic factors. Comprehensive programs improve both physical and psychosocial aspects.
The study aims to suggests mobile application service that helps to reduce physical and mental suffering after surgery for breast cancer patients constantly increasing. At first, I analyze literature research to understand the breast cancer and similar services for achieving study purposes. After I finally design a mobile application that offers to customed one-to-one specialist coaching service focused on post-treatment management by using a double diamond design process model. In detail, first, I analyze the current program and comprehend user needs through interviews with the person such as breast patient, protector, nurse, salesperson in cancer center. Second, I specify the entire scenario, concept and keyword based on the persona and the customer journey map representing user. Third, I propose the mobile application for the ultimate goal by producing prototype to effectively communicate with specific functional descriptions. I hope this service will improve the quality of their lives.
This study was to analyze the satisfaction and intention to recommend a hospital for spinal and joint patients. Using a structured questionnaire at a spinal and joint hospital in Seoul in 2019, and the relationship between demographic and social characteristics and patient satisfaction, factors influencing hospital satisfaction, and recommendation intention were analyzed. In outpatients, hospital satisfaction was higher in neatness and cleanliness of staff, kindness and facility environment comfort, and hospital satisfaction was low in questions related to waiting time. In inpatients, women's satisfaction was higher in the nursing and hospital environment areas. The correlation analysis between the satisfaction and the willing to recommend, there was a positive correlation. In the sub-analysis, hospital satisfaction was higher in the group that responded with respect and courtesy, listening, satisfaction of the nurse, hospital cleanliness and safety. This study is can be used to improve the quality of hospital care services in related hospitals.

The purpose of the study was to explore the nurses' perception of flexible working and present an operational guideline for implementation. The data were collected from a survey of 532 nurses conducted from 10 February to 24 February, 2015, using simple random sampling. SPSS 21.0 was used to analyze the data. This study found that the demanding for shorter hour shifts was highest ($M=3.89{\pm}0.87$) and 242 participants (46.2%) intended to apply the shift, followed by a fixed night shift, fixed weekend shift, and 12 hour shift. The common reasons identified were the poor environment of shift work and the challenges of child care. The increased time for personal development, relaxation activity to improve the quality of life and child care was highlighted and work-life balance was noted as a positive impact of flexible working. The negative impacts of flexible working were being likely to become temporary workers. These results can help establish uniform working conditions of nurses in the future by providing a standardized operational guideline as a precondition for reasonable compensation and working environment according to a flexible working pattern.
Purpose: Palliative procedures or surgical interventions not only manage various symptoms of malignant gastrointestinal obstruction, but also improve the quality of life. We investigated the clinical characteristics and prognostic factors of terminal cancer patients with palliative procedures for malignant gastrointestinal obstruction. Methods: We retrospectively reviewed the medical records of 48 terminal cancer patients with palliative procedures for malignant gastrointestinal obstruction at Sam Anyang hospital from May in 2002 to May in 2005. We excluded patients with palliative tumor resection. We analyzed prognostic factors in symtom-free survival and overall survival using Kaplan-Meier method, univariate and multivariate analysis. Results: There were 25 males (52%) and 23 females (48%), and median age of 48 patients was 65 years. The most common cause of malignant gastrointestinal obstruction was colorectal (26 patients, 55%), followed by stomach (10, 21%). Twenty patients (42%) received previous treatment (chemotherapy, surgery, and radiotherapy) and 28 (58%) never received any. Eighteen of 20 had received chemotherapy. The most common symptom was pain (15 patients, 31%). Twenty three patients (48%) had Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group(ECOG) performance status of 1 or 2 score and 25 patients (52%) 3 or 4 score. The most common palliative procedure was colostomy and there was no mortality concerning the palliative procedures. By univariate and multivariate analysis, performance status was the only independent prognostic factor in overall survival and symptom-free survival. Overall survival was 150 days and symptom-free survival was 90 days. Conclusion:. We confirmed that perftatdormance status is significant independent prognostic factor in terminal cancer patients with palliative procedures for malignant gastrointestinal obstruction.
