  • In this paper, dc-link voltage control of a grid-connected QZSI is presented. Since the input current of the ZSI is discontinuous, a capacity with relatively large capacitance should be connected to the output of the PV array in order to reduce the current ripple. Due to the presence of the impedance network inductor in series with the PV array, the QZSI can achieve continuous input current flow. Several dc-link voltage control methods are compared and the method for power quality improvement is also presented. The performance of the proposed method is verified through both simulation and experimental results.

  • This paper presents an implementation of selective harmonic elimination (SHE) modulation for a single-phase 13-level transistor-clamped H-bridge (TCHB) based cascaded multilevel inverter. To determine the optimum switching angle of the SHE equations, the Newton-Raphson method is used in solving the transcendental equation describing the fundamental and harmonic components. The proposed SHE scheme used the relationship between the angles and a sinusoidal reference waveform based on voltage-angle equal criteria. The proposed SHE scheme is evaluated through simulation and experimental results. The digital modulator based-SHE scheme using a field-programmable gate array (FPGA) is described and has been implemented on an Altera DE2 board. The proposed SHE is efficient in eliminating the $3^{rd}$, $5^{th}$, $7^{th}$, $9^{th}$ and $11^{th}$ order harmonics, which validates the analytical results. From the results, it can be seen that the adopted 13-level inverter produces a higher quality with a better harmonic profile and sinusoidal shape of the stepped output waveform.

Since our virtual experiment kit is implemented to describe the on-campus laboratory, the learners can obtain similar experimental data through it. Also, our web-based virtual experiment kit is designed to enhance the efficiency of both the learners and the educators. The learners will be able to achieve high learning standard and the educators save time and labor. The virtual experiment is performed according to the following procedure: (1) Circuit Composition on the Bread Board (2) Applying Input Voltage (3) Output Measurements (4) Checkout of Experiment Results. Furthermore, the circuit composition on the bread board and its corresponding online schematic diagram are displayed together on the virtual experiment kit for the learner's convenience. Finally, we have obtained several affirmative effects such as reducing the total experimental hours and the damage rate for experimental equipments and increasing learning efficiencies as well as faculty productivity.

  • Display quality depends on panel temperatures. To compensate it, temperature sensor was integrated on the panel. The conventional temperature sensor integrated on the panel needs external reference resistor. Since the resistance of external resistor can vary according to the variation of the environment temperature, the conventional temperature sensor can make error in temperature sensing. The environmental temperatures can change by the back light unit, driving circuits or chips. In this paper, we proposed a integrated temperature sensor on display panel which does not need external reference resister. Instead of external reference resistor, we used two materials which have different temperature coefficient in resistivity. They are connected serially and the output voltage was measured at the point of connection with the applied voltage to both ends. The proposed sensor was fabricated with indium tin oxide(ITO), and Mo metal electrode temperature sensor which were connected serially. We verified the temperature senor by the measurements of sensitivity, lineality, hysteresis, repeatability, stability, and accuracy.

  • The control laws for cart-pole system are studied to see the schemes on which the control laws are made. Also, the odd symmetry of the relation between the output of the control laws and the system state vector is observed. Utilizing the symmetry in quantizing the system state variables and implementing the control laws into look-up table is discussed. Then, a CMAC is trained for a nonlinear control law for a cart-pole system such that the symmetry is conserved and its learning performance is evaluated. It is found that utilizing the symmetry is to reduce the memory requirement as well as the training period while improving the learning quality in terms of preserving the symmetry.

  • GPS spoofing is an intentional interference which uses the mimic GPS signals to fake the receivers. The generic GPS receiver is hard to recognize the spoofing signal because the spoofer generates the fake signals as close as possible to the GPS signal. So the spoofer can do critical damage to public operations. This paper introduces a basic concept of spoofing and analyzes the effect of the spoofing signal to the GPS receiver. Also for stand-alone GPS receivers, two anti-spoofing methods are implemented : RAIM based method and the SQM based method. To evaluate the performance of anti-spoofing method, the software based spoofing signal generator and GPS signal generator are implemented. The performance of the anti-spoofing methods obtained using the output of the software based GPS receiver shows that SQM based method is more effective when multiple spoofing signals exist.

  • This paper presents a novel prototype of three-phase voltage source type zero voltage soft-switching inverter with the auxiliary resonant snubbers suitable for high-power applications with IGBT power module packages in order to reduce their switching power losses as well as electromagnetic conductive and radiative noises. A proposed single inductor-assisted resonant AC link snubber circuit topology as one of some auxiliary resonant commutation snubbers developed previously to achieve the zero voltage soft-switching (ZVS) for the three-phase voltage source type sinewave PWM inverter operating under the instantaneous space voltage vector modulation is originally demonstrated as compared with the other types of resonant AC link snubber circuit topologies. In addition to this, its operation principle and unique features are described in this paper. Furthermore, the practical basic operating performances of the new conceptual instantaneous space voltage vector modulation resonant AC link snubber-assisted three-phase voltage source type soft-switching PWM inverter using IGBT power module packages are evaluated and discussed on the basis of switching voltage and current waveforms, output line to line voltage quality, power loss analysis, actual power conversion efficiency and electromagnetic conductive and radiative noises from an experimental point of view, comparing with those of conventional three-phase voltage source hard-switching PWM inverter using IGBT power modules.

  • This paper presents a new single phase front-end ac-dc bridgeless power factor correction (PFC) rectifier topology. The proposed converter achieves a high efficiency over a wide range of input and output voltages, a high power factor, low line current harmonics and both step up and step down voltage conversions. This topology is based on a non-inverting buck-boost (Zeta) converter. In this approach, the input diode bridge is removed and a maximum of one diode conducts in a complete switching period. This reduces the conduction losses and the thermal stresses on the switches when compare to existing PFC topologies. Inherent power factor correction is achieved by operating the converter in the discontinuous conduction mode (DCM) which leads to a simplified control circuit. The characteristics of the proposed design, principles of operation, steady state operation analysis, and control structure are described in this paper. An experimental prototype has been built to demonstrate the feasibility of the new converter. Simulation and experimental results are provided to verify the improved power quality at the AC mains and the lower conduction losses of the converter.

  • This paper presents a steady-state operation analysis of full-bridge series-resonant inverters focusing on the distorted load current due to low-quality-factor resonant circuits in induction heating and other applications. The regions of operation based on the zero-voltage switching (ZVS) and non-zero-voltage switching (NON-ZVS) operations of the asymmetrical voltage-cancellation control technique are identified. The effects of a distorted load current under a wide range of output powers are also analyzed for achieving a precise ZVS operating region. An experimental study is performed with a 1kW prototype. Simulation and experimental studies have confirmed the validity of the proposed method. An efficiency comparison between the variable frequency method and the conventional fixed-frequency method is provided.
