An efficient and accurate scheme has been constructed by taking advantages of the hi-quadratic spline scheme and the higher-order boundary element method selectively depending on computation domains. Boundary surfaces are represented by 8-node boundary elements to describe curved surfaces of a ship and its neighboring free surface more accurately. The variation of the velocity potential complies with the characteristics of the 8-node element on the body surface. But on the free surface, it is assumed to follow that of the hi-quadratic spline scheme. By which, the free surface solution is free from numerical damping and has better numerical dispersion property. As numerical examples, steady and unsteady Neumann-Kelvin problems are considered. Numerical results for a submerged spheroid, Series 60($C_B=0.6$) and a modified support the proposed method. Finally, a new upstream radiation condition is derived using a wave equation operator in order to deal with problems for subcritical reduced frequency. The relevance of this operator has been confirmed in the case of unsteady Kelvin source potential.
This paper presents the method for developing an optimum hull form with minimum wave resistance using SQP(sequential quadratic programming) as an optimization technique. The wave resistance is evaluated by a Rankine source panel method with non-linear free surface conditions and the ITTC 1957 friction line is used to predict the frictional resistance coefficient. The geometry of the hull surface is represented and modified using NURBS(Non-Uniform Rational B-Spline) surface patches. To verity the validity of the developed program the numerical calculations for Wigley hull and Series 60( $C_B=0.6$) hull have been performed and the results obtained by the numerical calculations have been compared with the original hulls.

A higher order panel method based on B-spline representation for both the geometry and the solution is developed for the analysis of steady flow around marine propellers. The self-influence functions due to the normal dipole and the source are desingularized through the quadratic transformation, and then shown to be evaluated using conventional numerical quadrature. By selecting a proper order for numerical quadrature, the accuracy of the present method can be increased to the machine limit. The far- and near-field influences are shown to be evaluated based on the same far-field approximation, but the near-field solution requires subdividing the panels into smaller subpanels continuously, which can be effectively implemented due to the B-spline representation of the geometry. A null pressure jump Kutta condition at the trailing edge is found to be effective in stabilizing the solution process and in predicting the correct solution. Numerical experiments indicate that the present method is robust and predicts the pressure distribution on the blade surface, including very close to the tip and trailing edge regions, with far fewer panels than existing low order panel methods.
In this paper, we discuss a reduced-order modeling for the Benjamin-Bona-Mahony-Burgers (BBMB) equation and its application to a distributed feedback control problem through the centroidal Voronoi tessellation (CVT). Spatial distcritization to the BBMB equation is based on the finite element method (FEM) using B-spline functions. To determine the basis elements for the approximating subspaces, we elucidate the CVT approaches to reduced-order bases with snapshots. For the purpose of comparison, a brief review of the proper orthogonal decomposition (POD) is provided and some numerical experiments implemented including full-order approximation, CVT based model, and POD based model. In the end, we apply CVT reduced-order modeling technique to a feedback control problem for the BBMB equation.

This paper discusses a design methodology of cooperative path planning for dynamical multi-agent systems with spatial and temporal constraints. The cooperative behavior of the multi-agent systems is specified in terms of the objective function in an optimization formulation. The path of achieving cooperative tasks is then generated by the optimization formulation constructed based on a differential flatness approach. Three scenarios of multi-agent tasking are proposed at the cooperative task planning framework. Given agent dynamics, both spatial and temporal constraints are considered in the path planning. The path planning algorithm first finds trajectory curves in a lower-dimensional space and then parameterizes the curves by a set of B-spline representations. The coefficients of the B-spline curves are further solved by a sequential quadratic programming solver to achieve the optimization objective and satisfy these constraints. Finally, several illustrative examples of cooperative path/task planning are presented.

The geometry of the hull surface is represented and modified using B-spline surface patches. The optimization method is applied to Series 60 hull and KCS(KRISO 3600 TEU Container Ship). The obtained results prove that the method is appropriate for preliminary hull form design.
A design procedure for a ship with minimum total resistance has been developed using a numerical optimization method called SQP(sequential quadratic programming) to search for different optimal hull forms. The frictional resistance has been estimated using the ITTC 1957 model-ship correlation line formula, and the wave resistance has been evaluated using a potential-flow panel method that is based on Rankine sources with nonlinear free surface boundary conditions. The geometry of a hull surface has been modified using B-spline surface patches, during the whole optimization process. The numerical analyses have been carried out for the modified Wilgey hull at three different speeds (Fn=0.25, 0.316, 0.408), and the calculation results were compared.

In numerically evaluating the thermal performance of the heat exchanger, numerical values of thermodynamic properties such as temperature, pressure, specific volume, enthalpy and entropy are required. But the steam table or diagram itself cannot be directly used without modelling. In this study the applicability of neural networks in modelling superheated water vapor was examined. The multi-layer neural networks consist of an input layer with 2 nodes, two hidden layers with 15 and 25 nodes respectively and an output layer with 3 nodes. Quadratic spline interpolation was also applied for comparison. Neural networks model revealed smaller percentage error compared with spline interpolation. From this result, it is confirmed that the neural networks could be a powerful method in modelling the superheated water vapor.
