  • The sensor node's performance is expected to be improved and the price will be largely decreased. As USN-applied field is expanded, multiple application services are expected to be provided through one USN soon. Multiple applications be required a periodic data reporting, consecutive information monitoring, event-driven data and query-based data as the data pattern that USN is delivered. Accordingly, the mechanism which can assure QoS according to each data characteristic is required. In this paper, A proposed protocol apply the duty cycle of S-MAC protocol variably and flexible according QoS level. This method largely reduces the delay on the delay-sensitive traffic, while keeping the energy efficiency.

  • In wireless environment, due to the limited capacity of radio channels it is not easy to guarantee QoS provisioning to mobile users. Therefore, one of the key problems to support broadband multimedia multi-services in wireless ATM networks is to study an effective call admission control(CAC). The purpose of this paper is to propose a distributed CAC scheme that guarantees multi QoS and multi-class service. Control parameters of the proposed scheme are QoS threshold and channel overload probability. With these parameter control, we show that the scheme can guarantee the requested QoS to both new and handover calls. In the scheme, channels are allocated dynamically, and QoS measurements are made in a distributed manner. We show that by providing variable data rate to calls it can effectively prohibit the QoS degradation even if there are severe fluctuations of network traffic. We compare the proposed CAC scheme to the well-known schemes such as guard band call admission control scheme. Through numerical examples and simulations, the proposed scheme is shown to improve the performance by lowering the probability of handover call dropping

  • In this paper, we developmed and implemented router and bandwidth broker that provides end-to-end QoS in differentiated service IP networks. Our design goal is to provide end-to-end premium service using the EF PHB. The bandwidth broker and router were implemented in the FreeBSD 4.6 platform. For the DiffServ router, we implemented QoS daemon, rollback managment routine, monitoring, and COPS-PR client. Also, Ive implemented bandwith broker which has SLS and resource management function, and signaling protocols for interfacing intra-and inter-domain. On the testbed, we have validated and evaluated the performance of the implemented DiffServ router and bandwidth broker using the inter-domain signaling protocol client in MS Windows platform. The test results show that the end-to-end QoS can be guaranteed for the inter-domain diffServ by the implemented system.

  • Low-Orbit satellite mobile networks can provide services through miniaturized terminals with low transmission power, which can be used as reliable means of communication in the national public disaster network and defense sector. However, the high traffic environment in the emergency preparedness situation increases the new call blocking probability and the handover failure probability of the satellite network, and the increase of the handover failure probability affects the QoS because low orbit satellites move in orbit at a very high speed. Among the channel allocation methods of satellite communication, the FCA shows relatively better performance in a high traffic environment than DCA and is suitable for emergency preparedness situations, but in order to optimize QoS when traffic increases, the new call blocking and the handover failure must be minimized. In this paper, we propose LEO-DBC (LEO satellite dynamic beam width control) technique, which improves QoS by adaptive adjustment of beam width of low-orbit satellites and call time of terminals by improving FCA-QH method. Through the LEO-DBC technique, it is expected that the QoS of the mobile satellite communication network can be optimally maintained in high traffic environments in emergency preparedness situations.

  • Recently there are increasing needs for Internet and various kinds of contents. These traffics for various contents need more amount of data to provide high-quality information and require various QoS depending on the characteristics of contents. However, current Internet service supports BE (Best Effort) service only, therefore IntServ (Integrated Service) scheme and DiffServ (Differentiated Service) scheme are represented to support QoS in IP layer. Moreover, while wireless Internet is getting popular, MAC(Medium Access Control) is also becoming important. This is due to the fact that wireless access, resource allocation and packet scheduling, which are done in another layers before, are performed in MAC layer in many new wireless systems. This paper describes new scheme that provides QoS taking into account the traffic characteristics over Mobile IPv6 network based on IEEE 802.11e EDCF and evaluates the performance through computer simulation.

  • Future communication networks would consist of wired and wireless access networks where there would be various types of traffic services. To meet the QoS requirements of those various traffic services simultaneously, new QoS control schemes are required. Since they are simple to deploy, cheep to manage, and easy to support subscriber mobility, wireless access networks are considered here. In this paper, a wireless joint buffer management and scheduling (W-JoBS) scheme, which is a modified version of the original JoBS algorithm at error-prone wireless access networks, is proposed. W-JoBS scheme is for providing service fairness among traffic classes with service compensation and channel-state dependent packet scheduling schemes. With computer simulation, this proposed W-JoBS scheme is evaluated and the performance of W-JoBS is compared with that of the original JoBS.

  • This study provides a framework to assess network design under the regime of QoE (Quality of Experience). Our approach is expected to reveal the necessity of developing the QoE measures and applying this notion to network design, particularly in the mobile environment. Furthermore, our model shows the ample potential that both users and network providers are able to attain a win-win case by shifting the focus on network design and service operations from QoS (Quality of Service) to QoE. Since the former considers only relevant technological specifications, it may fail in capturing critical factors surrounding users, such as a context where the corresponding user is working on. For example, according to one study [13], the bit-rate, a widely employed QoS measure, shows inferior performance in provisioning network resources to the MOS (Mean Opinion Score), a representative QoE measure. Our framework develops the idea and construct a prototype to systematically assess network design and operations in terms of QoE. The proposed prototype aims at achieving a higher level of efficiency without severely deteriorating users' satisfaction level. We also provide some simulation results which support our idea. That is, reducing the chance of over-provisioning on the basis of the QoE paradigm results in a great flexibility. It may give price cut for users or postponement of network investment for providers or both. Our simulation results also seem robust irrespective of the forms of the QoS-QoE relationship.

  • Providing quality of service (QoS) guarantees over wireless link requires thorough understanding and quantification of the interactions among the traffic source, the wireless channel, and the underlying error control mechanisms. In this paper, we account for such interactions in a network-layer model that we use to investigate the delay performance of a wireless channel. We consider a single ON/OFF traffic stream transported over a wireless link. The capacity of this link fluctuates according to a fluid version of Gilbert-Elliot's model. We derive the packet delay distribution via two different approaches: uniformization and Laplace transform. Numerical aspects of both approaches are compared. The delay distribution is further used to quantify the wireless effective bandwidth under a given delay guarantee. Numerical results and simulations are used to verify the adequacy of our analysis and to study the impact of error control and bandwidth allocation on the packet delay performance. • For VOD systems, it is important to provide QoS to more users under the limited resources. To analyze QoS issues in real environment, we implement clustered VOD server and embedded client system based on the Linux open source platform. The parallel processing of MPEG data, load balancing for nodes and VCR like functions are implemented in the server side. To provide more user friendly interface, the general TV is used for a VOD client's terminal and the embedded board is used supporting for VCR functions. In this paper, we measure the performance of the implemented VOD system under the various user requirement features and evaluate the sources of performance limitations. From these analyses, we propose the dynamic admission control method based on the availability memory and network bandwidth. The proposed method enhances the utilization of the system resource for the more QoS media streams.
