Despite numerous advances in the preparation and use of GaN, and many leading-edge applications in lighting technologies, the preparation of high-quality GaN powder remains a challenge. Ammonolytic preparations of polycrystalline GaN have been studied using various precursors, but all were time-consuming and required high temperatures. In this study, an efficient and low-temperature method to synthesize high-purity hexagonal GaN powder is developed using sub-micron $Ga_2O_3$ powder as a starting material. The sub-micron $Ga_2O_3$ powder was prepared by an ultrasonic spray pyrolysis process. The GaN powder is synthesized from the sub-micron $Ga_2O_3$ powder through a nitridation treatment in an $NH_3$ flow at $800^{\circ}C$. The characteristics of the synthesized powder are systematically examined by X-ray diffraction, scanning and transmission electron microscopy, and UV-vis spectrophotometer.
Spherical $CeO_2:Ho^{3+}/Yb^{3+}$ particles were synthesized using spray pyrolysis, and the upconversion (UC) properties were investigated with changing the preparation conditions and the infrared pumping power. The resulting particles had a size of about $1{\mu}m$ and hollow structure. The prepared $CeO_2:Ho^{3+}/Yb^{3+}$ particles exhibited intense green emission due to the $^5F_4/^5S_2{\rightarrow}^5I_8$ transition of $Ho^{3+}$ and showed weak red or near-IR peaks. In terms of achieving the highest UC emission, the optimal concentrations of $Ho^{3+}$ and $Yb^{3+}$ were 0.3% and 2.0%, respectively. The UC emission intensity of prepared $CeO_2:Ho^{3+}/Yb^{3+}$ particles had a linear relationship with crystallite size and concentration quenching was caused by dipole-dipole interaction between the same ions. Based on the dependency of UC emission on the pumping power, the observed green upconversion was achieved through a typical two-photon process and concluded that the main energy transfer from $Yb^{3+}$ to $Ho^{3+}$ was involved in the ground-state adsorption (GSA) process.
MgO based nanocomposite powder including ferromagnetic iron particle dispersions, which can be available for the magnetic and catalytic applications, was fabricated by the spray pyrolysis process using ultra-sonic atomizer and reduction processes. Liquid source was prepared from iron (Fe)-nitrate, as a source of Fe nano-dispersion, and magnesium (Mg)-nitrate, as a source of MgO materials, with pure water solvent. After the chamber were heated to given temperatures (500~$^800{\circ}C$), the mist of liquid droplets generated by ultrasonic atomizer carried into the chamber by a carrier gas of air, and the ist was decomposed into Fe-oxide and MgO nano-powder. The obtained powders were reduced by hydrogen atmosphere at 600~$^800{\circ}C$. The reduction behavior was investigated by thermal gravity and hygrometry. After reduction, the aggregated sub-micron Fe/MgO powders were obtained, and each aggregated powder composed of nano-sized Fe/MgO materials. By the difference of the chamber temperature, the particle size of Fe and MgO was changed in a few 10 nm levels. Also, the nano-porous Fe-MgO sub-micron powders were obtained. Through this preparation process and the evaluation of phase and microstructure, it was concluded that the Fe/MgO nanocomposite powders with high surface area and the higher coercive force were successfully fabricated.

This study has a different direction from the existing technology of applying recycled carbon fiber obtained by recycling waste CFRP to CFRP again. A study was conducted to utilize recycled carbon fiber as a raw material for manufacturing a carbon/carbon (C/C) composite material comprising carbon as a matrix. First, it was attempted to recycle a commonly used epoxy resin composite material through a thermal decomposition process. By applying the newly proposed oxidation-inert atmosphere conversion technology to the pyrolysis process, the residual carbon rate of 1~2% was improved to 19%. Through this, the possibility of manufacturing C/C composite materials utilizing epoxy resin was confirmed. However, in the case of carbon obtained by the oxidation-inert atmosphere controlled pyrolysis process, the degree of oxygen bonding is high, so further improvement studies are needed. In addition, short-fiber C/C composite material specimens were prepared through the crushing and disintegrating processes after thermal decomposition of waste CFRP, and the optimum process conditions were derived through the evaluation of mechanical properties.

The spherical NiZn ferrite particles were prepared by ultrasonic spray pyrolysis with mixed solution of aqueous metal nitrates. The NiZn ferrite particle was observed with nano-sized primary particles of about 10 nm or less before annealing which represented as paramagnetic behavior measured at 77 K and room temperature. The typical abnormal growth of primary particles like polyhedral primary particles was observed by annealing at 1273 K with Zn-concentration dependency. The XRD patterns showed good crystallinity of NiZn ferrite powder after annealing. In annealing process, the intra-particle sintering phenomenon was observed and the spherical particle morphology was collapsed at 1673 K. The saturation magnetization of NiZn ferrite powder for each annealing temperature was decreased with measuring temperature of $77{\sim}$300K.
The reaction mechanism of the pyrolysis of sulphonyl oximes ($CH_3-C_6H_4-S(O)_2O-N=C(H)-C_6H_4Y$), in the gas phase is studied theoretically at HF/3-21G, ONIOM (B3LYP/6-31G**:HF/3-21G) and ONIOM (MP2/6- 31G**:HF/3-21G) levels. All the calculations show that the thermal decomposition of sulphonyl oximes is a concerted asynchronous process via a six-membered cyclic transition state. The activation energies (Ea) predicted by ONIOM (B3LYP/6-31G**: HF/3-21G) method are in good agreement with the experimental results for a series of tosyl arenecarboxaldoximes. Five para substituents, Y = $OCH_3$, $CH_3$, H, Cl, and $NO_2$, are employed to investigate the substituent effect on the elimination reaction. Linear Hammett correlations are obtained in all calculations in contrast to the experimental finding.
ZnO films were deposited on MgO substrates (ZnO/MgO) by ultrasonic spray pyrolysis. Substrate temperature varied from $250^{\circ}C$ to $350^{\circ}C$. The crystallographic properties and surface morphologies of the ZnO/MgO films were studied by X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy. The properties of photoluminescence (PL) for the films were investigated by dependence of PL spectra on the substrate temperature and the annealing temperature. The ZnO/MgO films prepared at $350^{\circ}C$ showed the strongest Ultraviolet light emission peak at 18 K and 300 K among the films in this study. The annealing process increases the visible light emission, which is due to the increased oxygen vacancies.
Ash melting chamber is one of the key facility of the pyrolysis-melting incineration system, and it should be designed and operated very carefully for avoiding solidification of slag. In this study, an example of numerical and experimental scale-up process of the melting chamber, in which high speed air is injected to the molten slag and generates bubbles, which enhances agitation of the slag and char combustion, is presented. Cold flow test, combustion and melting test in a lab-scale (30 kg/hr) chamber and a pilot scale (200 kg/hr) chamber. Minimum energy for maintaining molten slag is derived, and it was found that the molten slag can be maintained efficiently by concentrating heat into the bubbling slag.
Chemical behaviors of each surface material for interior facilities affect to fire initiation and growth in general fire situation. These chemical behaviors were characterized by thermal properties (Heat release rate, Pyrolysis rate, specific heat, etc) which could be derived from experimental test. Especially, Heat release rate which indicates aspect of fire size is one of the most important property to asses fire hazard and protection needs. The cone calorimeter test (ISO 5660) has recently assumed to a dominant role in bench scale fire testing to obtain the Heat release rate of materials. This value could be calculated by the 'Oxygen Consumption Method' under various producing irradiances to each surface of materials. In this study, Process of the cone calorimeter test was simulated by Pyrolysis model of FDS (Fire Dynamics Simulator by NIST) base on the ISO 5660 international standard. Then, we could estimate the simulation method of FDS in case of single materials through the comparative study with test results.
