A Study on the Effect and Determinants of Virtual Presence in Live Commerce: Focusing on the Characteristics of Live Shopping Media and Influencers (라이브커머스에서 가상실재감의 효과와 결정요인 연구: 라이브쇼핑 매체 및 인플루언서 특성을 중심으로)

  • Purpose: Live commerce is a new type of electronic commerce in combination with live streaming services. It is expected to increase virtual presence in the context of online shopping by overcoming a lack of social interactions between sellers and buyers which have been raised as a limitation in electronic commerce. Drawing on the studies of communication media, this study examines how live commerce contributes to the increase of virtual presence which consists of telepresence and social presence. Telepresence refers to a buyer's perception that he or she is present at the physical shopping mall during live shopping streaming whereas social presence refers to a buyer's perception of social interaction with a seller which is human warm, social, sensitive, and personal. In this study, we verify key determinants of virtual presence and its consequences. More specifically, this study proposes virtual presence contributes to the increase of buyers' trust in products and further purchase intentions. Furthermore, we verify influential factors of virtual presence from the technical and influencer perspectives of live commerce. Design/methodology/approach: To test the proposed hypotheses, the partial least squares (PLS) analysis is conducted with a total of 250 data collected on users with experience in the TaoBao live streaming shopping platform. Findings: The results show that first, telepresence and social presence are increased by visibility, media richness and attractiveness in the context of live shopping streaming. Second, buyers' trust in product trust and purchase intentions are positively influenced by telepresence and social presence. Finally, buyers' trust in product has a direct, positve effect on their purchase intentions. Overall, the findings offer new insights into the studies of electronic commerce by introducting the concepts of virtual presence and media richness from the literature of communication media in the field of live commerce.

Analyzing the Effects of Consumer Value Perception, Environmental Motives, and Perceived Barriers on the Purchase Intention of Vegan Cosmetics (비건 화장품의 구매의도에 영향을 미치는 소비자 가치 인식, 환경적 동기 및 지각된 장벽의 영향 분석)

  • Amidst the rapid growth of the vegan cosmetics market, consumer orientation towards environmental and ethical values has been intensifying. However, research on this subject remains limited. This study delves into the relationship between consumer value perception, environmental motivations, and perceived barriers influencing the purchase intentions of vegan cosmetics. Conducting a PLS-SEM analysis on a sample of 300 women with experience using vegan cosmetics, it was discerned that monetary value, social value, brand value, emotional value, quality value, and environmental knowledge play significant roles in influencing purchase intentions. The moderating effect analysis highlighted image barriers and value barriers as crucial factors. Through Importance-Performance Map Analysis, emotional value emerged as a pivotal element in strategizing to strengthen the purchasing intentions for vegan cosmetics. This research contributes both theoretically and practically to enhancing the competitive edge of the vegan cosmetics market and promoting sustainable consumption behavior.

  • This study studied the influence of beauty influencers, who act as supporters of cosmetics companies, on the purchase intention of cosmetics by consumers using Instagram content. To this end, we focused on the influence of demographic characteristics of consumers exposed to product evaluation contents of beauty influencers acting as cosmetics company supporters on purchase intention. The research data questionnaire surveyed a total of 15 items in 237 parts. Frequency analysis, factor analysis, independent t test, ANOVA, and multiple regression analysis were used for data analysis, and SPSS 23.0 was used for analysis. As a result of researching purchase intention according to product introduction through Instagram contents of a specific account HAJIN_21 Beauty Influencer, gender did not have a statistically significant positive effect, and final education was statistically influenced on purchase intention. It was found to have a significant positive (+) effect. As a result, it was found that final education was an important factor in purchase intention. Furthermore, it is expected that this study can be used as a basic data in the direction of promotion using cosmetics companies supporters.

The Roles of Brand Loyalty and Switching Costs in the Purchase of a New Smartphone (스마트폰 신제품 구매에서 브랜드 충성도와 전환비용의 역할)

  • Purpose Although many users change their smartphone, most may be inclined to continue using incumbent smartphone series instead of switching to new brands. Brand loyalty and switching costs are major determinants of inclinations toward incumbent smartphones. This study addresses the research question, "what roles brand loyalty and switching costs play in the purchase of new smartphones?". Design/methodology/approach A research model consisting of six hypotheses for explaining purchase intentions toward new smartphone was proposed considering inclinations toward incumbent brands. The research model was empirically tested based on purchase intentions toward the LG smartphone brand G4, employing a sample of 177 university students in Korea. The data were analyzed using the PLS technique. The results provide support for all hypotheses. Findings First, perceived inclinations toward incumbent smartphone, brand loyalty and switching costs, explained the purchase of new smartphones as well as the perception of new smartphone. Second, brand loyalty was found to play the role of moderator between switching costs and relative advantage in the purchase of new smartphone. Third, perceived aesthetics and price value had considerable influence on the purchase of brand-new smartphone.

The Relationship among Characteristics of Fashion Influencers, Relationship Immersion, and Purchase Intention

  • Purpose: As the digital environment has expanded opportunity for consumers to acquire information from social media and social network services(SNS), With this environment, influencer has not only promoted products, but also participated in distribution and influencing on their followers. Despite the increasing interest in influencers, there has not been enough research on the structure of fashion influencer, relationship of immersion and purchase intention. This study examined the effects of fashion influencers' characteristics to the immersion of relationship with followers and purchase intention. Research design, data and methodology: For data collection, a pilot survey and the final survey were conducted. The pilot survey data was conducted to 50 female SNS users following fashion influencers. Based on the pilot tests, questionnaire was revised and the final survey was conducted online from august 22 to September 1, 2019 to female SNS users who have followed fashion influencer. A total of 408 data were collected, and exploratory factor analysis, correlation analysis, and structural equational modeling techniques were employed for the data analyses using AMOS 26.0 and SPSS 26.0. Results: First, five factors were extracted for the fashion influencers' characteristics: interactivity, similarity, reliability, expertise and attractiveness. Second, fashion influences' reliability, expertise, similarity, interactivity have a positive (+) effects on relationship immersion; however, attractiveness has no effect on relationship immersion with followers and fashion influencer. It was also determined that relationship immersion had positive (+) influences on purchase intention. The relationship immersion has been found to have a partially mediated effect and similarity has complete mediated effects between interactivity, reliability, and expertise of fashion influencers and purchasing intentions. In terms of fashion opinion leadership, it was found to have a significant influence on purchase intention only for low fashion leadership groups. Conclusions: The present study found the structural relationships among the influencer characteristics, relationship immersion and purchase intentions to provide framework for succeeding research. This research revealed academic association of intention of purchasing through use of fashion social media and fashion influencer marketing. The results also showed the practical implications that fashion influencers' expertise and reliability perceived by their followers are key determinants to success in influencer marketing.

A Study on the Potential Effects of Consumer Preference for Beef and Involvement in the Attributes of Beef Selection on Consumers' Purchase Intentions (쇠고기 선택 속성의 관여도와 선호도가 구매 의도에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to determine potential associations among consumer preference for American beef, consumers' involvement in selection of desired beef, and their intentions to purchase beef. In order to meet the above purpose, this study surveyed the visitors who shopped at 2 big discount stores selected in each of 3 metropolitan cities(Seoul, Daejeon and Daegu) from July 11 to 13, 2008. Total 278 sheets of the questionnaire were collected and used for final data analysis. As a result, it was found that the consumers responded most sensitively to the safety of food when buying beef but didn't care much about the amount of fat and beef brand. In terms of imported beef, it was found that Australian beef was considered reliable by consumers, and their preference for Korean beef was positively correlated with that for Australian beef. In addition, in regard to the attributes of beef selection, it was found that low involvement group had higher intentions to purchase American beef than high involvement group. In order to determine the potential effects of consumers' involvement in the attributes of beef selection on their intentions to purchase American beef, this study conducted data analysis in control of consumer preference for American beef. As a result, it was found that consumers' involvement in the attributes of beef selection had significant effects on their intentions to buy American beef. And sex was found to be one of the demographic characteristics associated with involvement in the attributes of beef selection, particularly associated with low involvement. Depending on sex, it was found that women had lower preference for American beef than men.

Analysis of Factors Affecting Purchase Intentions for Fashion Cultural Products

  • This study conducted an empirical study on fashion cultural products that targeted foreign visitors to identify variables related to foreigners' purchase intention towards fashion cultural products. A total of 424 surveys were returned (with 393 deemed usable). The collected data was analyzed using SPSS 12.0 and AMOS 5.0 to provide the following results. The purchase intention model for fashion cultural products was verified along with an identification of a causal relationship where personal factors and attitudes lead to purchase intention. In particular, the effect of universalism and the exposure degree to Korea was greater than global-mindedness. Two factors (attitudes toward authenticity and towards aesthetic elements) exerted a significant effect on purchase intention; comparatively, the attitude toward authenticity showed a greater influence on the purchase intention.

Do Authentic Experiences in Tourist Destinations Influence Everyday Purchase Behavior?: Moderating Effect of Destination Brand Self-congruence

  • Research has shown that authentic experiences at tourist destinations, referred to as destination authenticity, lead to increased revisit intentions and recommendations. However, studies demonstrating the impact of destination authenticity on everyday purchasing behavior are scarce. To address this research gap, based on autobiographical memory and consumer inference theory, this study re-examines the relationship between destination authenticity and purchase behavior toward brands created in tourism destinations encountered in everyday life. This study reveals that brand authenticity mediates destination authenticity's effect on the purchase intention toward destination brands. Furthermore, the effects of destination authenticity on brand authenticity, as well as brand authenticity on purchase intention, are moderated by destination brand self-congruence. The findings of this study contribute to the literature by examining the mechanisms of tourists' purchase behavior, based on autobiographical memory and consumer inference theory. In addition, it sheds light on the boundary conditions under which the impact of destination authenticity on brand authenticity and that of brand authenticity on purchase intention are enhanced.

Effects of the Perceived Value of IP-based Game Character Skins and Purchase Intention on Game Loyalty: Focusing on the MOBA Game Pokemon Unite (IP 기반 게임 캐릭터 스킨의 지각된 가치와 구매의도가 게임 충성도에 미치는 영향 - MOBA 게임 포켓몬 유나이트를 중심으로)

  • Recent trends in the gaming industry have highlighted a significant rise in games based on intellectual properties (IP), such as animations and webtoons. This study addresses a critical aspect of revenue generation for game companies: item sales. Specifically, it explores how the perceived value of character skins in IP-based games influences purchase intentions and, subsequently, how these intentions affect game loyalty. Utilizing 'Pokemon Unite'-a game that integrates the prominent IP Pokemon with the dynamic MOBA genre-this research investigates these relationships within a sample of Chinese users. The perceived value of character skins was delineated into six categories: aesthetic value, hedonic value, social value, personal value, economic value, and IP value. Findings indicate that, of these six value dimensions, five-hedonic, social, personal, economic, and IP values-significantly impact purchase intentions, with aesthetic value showing no significant effect. Furthermore, the study demonstrates that purchase intentions have a positive effect on game loyalty, with character loyalty partially mediating this relationship. These results underscore that players of IP-based games weigh a multifaceted array of values when deciding on character skin purchases and highlight the critical role these skins play in not only generating item sales but also enhancing game loyalty.

Shopping Motives, Information Search and Behavioral Intentions of Internet Fashion Consumers (인터넷 패션 소비자의 쇼핑동기, 정보탐색 및 행동의도에 관한 연구)

  • This research examines shopping motives, information search of e-fashion consumers and their behavioral intentions (word of mouth, repurchase and site switching intentions). The survey was conducted from December $17^{th}$ 2010 to January $5^{th}$ 2011 and all respondents had previous experiences with on-line purchase of fashion items. The study finds that an information search has three dimensions, recreational search, informative search, and rational search. The effects of both hedonic and utilitarian shopping motives on information search and behavioral intentions are significant. In addition, recreational and informative search have a positive impact on word of mouth and site switching intentions, while repurchase intention is influenced by an informative search. Rational search has a positive effect on switching intention only. Finally, there are significant differences by gender in shopping motives, information search and behavioral intentions.
