This paper describes a computer aided process planning system called "Deep-Drawing", "Deep-Drawing" is designed for the drawing sequence of cylindrical and rectangular cups with or without taper and flange. The computer program has written in BASIC language with personal computer. Design Rules for process planning are formulated from process limitation, plasticity theory and experimental results including the know-how of many manufacturing factories. "Deep-Drawing" Capabilities include the analysis of drawing sequence by the determination of optimal drawing ratio, the determination of intermediate shape, dimensions, punch and die radius etc., the calculation of drawing loads and blank holder force to perform each drawing step, and the graphic outputs for the operation sheet.tputs for the operation sheet.

This paper has executed FE-analysis to review the feasibility for developing the process, which produces the narrow-cubic type cans, using the Backward Impact Extrusion process instead of using current process, multi-stage deep drawing. Proposes an analysis method by applying ALE(Arbitrary Lagrangian-Eulerian) description to non-axisymmetric extrusion. which is appreciated as one of good solution to mesh distortion in case of the large deformation plasticity process that has mass flux, and considers the factors which affects forming-loads related to punch velocity and fulid status of material.
In order to find the effect of material property and lubricant viscosity on the frictional characteristics a sheet metal friction tester was designed and tensile test, surface roughness test, and friction test were performed with several kinds of drawing oils. Test results show that as the lubricant viscosity becomes lower, the friction coefficient is higher. When surface roughness is extremely low or high, friction coefficient is also high. Using these test results, the friction model considering lubricant viscosity and surface roughness is developed. The validity and accuracy of the friction model are shown by comparing the punch loads among FEM analysis results employing current friction model and conventional friction model respectively and experimental measurement.

Impact extrusion is an economical and productive process that can replace the multistage deep drawing process for producing deep rectangular cases. In the current work, a three-dimensional finite element analysis of the impact extrusion process of a commercial purity aluminum alloy (AA1070) was performed to predict loads, material flow, and deformed shapes using the Hansel-Spittel rheology law, which describes the flow stress at various temperatures and strain rates. The role of various process parameters such as friction, clearance between punch and die, aspect ratio and thickness of billet on the process and the shapes was analyzed.

Forging of trapezoidal spline, serration and square spline with solid cylindrical billets and hollow one has been investigated by means of upper bound method. Kinematically admissible velocity fields for forging of splines have been proposed in this study. The half pitch of splines has been divided into deformation regons. The neutral surface is introduced into forging of splines with flat punch and, for each step, it is assumed as a circle with its radius rn upper bound solutions obtained obtained by proposed kinematically admissible velocity fields are useful to predict the loads for forging of splines.

Multi-stage deep drawing is an important sheet metal forming process. The deformation mechanisms of sheet metals during forming processes are complicated mainly due to the geometry and the lubrication of tools involved, the formability and the anisotropic behaviour of the material. The multi-stage deep-drawing processes including normal-drawing, reverse-drawing, and re-drawing are analyzed by use of the rigid-plastic finite element method. The anisotropic behaviour represented by r-value can be incorporated into the formulation. Punch/die loads and thickness distributions were obtained as results of simulating axisymmetric deep drawing processes. The computed results showed good agreements with experiments.
In multi-stage cold forging process, to enhance the productivity and product quality, in-site process monitoring technique by implanting sensors such as piezo-sensor and acoustic emission sensor has been continuously studied. For accurate analysis of the process, the selection of appropriate sensors and implantation positions are very important. Until now, in a multi-state forging machine, wedge parts located at the end of punch-set are used but it is difficult to analyze minute changes in die block-set. In this study, we also implanted sensors to the die part (die spacer) and compared signals from both sensors and found that sensing signals from die part showed enhanced process monitoring results.

Tractrix dies, used in the deep drawing process, can be used to form CNG pressure vessels without a blank holder. Previous studies had only applied tractrix profiles to perform the first deep drawing process of DDI; but an optimal design of the tractrix die that focuses on improving die life and reducing production cost has not been performed yet. In this study, finite element analyses of deep drawing processes were conducted according to heights of the tractrix die by using translating asymptotes. In addition, researchers analyzed von-Mises stresses at the part of stress concentration of the die according to the forming punch loads in order to propose an optimal tractrix die design.
Ductile fracture prediction is critical for the reasonable damage extent assessment of ships and offshore structures subjected to accidental loads, such as ship collisions and groundings. A fracture model combining the Hosford-Coulomb ductile fracture model with the domain of solid-to-shell equivalence model (HC-SDDE), was used in fracture simulations based on shell elements for the punching fracture experiments of unstiffened and stiffened panels. The flow stress and ductile fracture characteristics of JIS G3131 SPHC steel were identified through tension tests for flat bar, notched tension bar, central hole tension bar, plane strain tension bar, and pure shear bar specimens. Punching fracture tests for unstiffened and stiffened panels are conducted to validate the presented HC-DSSE model. The calibrated fracture model is implemented in a user-defined material subroutine. The force-indentation curves and final damage extents obtained from the simulations are compared with experimental results. The HC-DSSE fracture model provides reasonable estimations in terms of force-indentation paths and residual damage extents.
