  • In this study, using coke dust from ironwork, the pulse pressure on a pulse air jet bag filter was investigated considering the influence of the pressure loss due to filtration velocity and pressure intervals. The research on the optimal pulse pressure prediction of a pulse air jet type bag filter using coke dust showed the following results. Pressure loss volatility produced by the pulse pressure under low dust concentration(0.5, $1g/m^3$) and low face velocity(1.25 m/min) was less than $10mmH_2O$. This suggests that the pulse pressure has a low impact on the pressure loss. In contrast, pressure loss volatility under high dust concentration($3g/m^3$) and high face velocity(1.75 m/min) was $25mmH_2O$. Therefore, pulse pressure with high dust concentration and high face velocity has a strong influence on the pressure loss volatility, compared to the condition of low dust concentration and low face velocity. The optimal pulse pressure of inlet dust concentration($0.5g/m^3$) was $6kg/cm^2$ under the same face velocity(1.75 m/min). As concentration increased from 1 to $2g/m^3$, the pulse pressure gradually reached $5kg/cm^2$ thus indicating that the pulse pressure($5kg/cm^2$) is pertinent at a high concentration($3g/m^3$). The pulse intervals: 20, 25 and 30 sec, which are relatively longer than 10 and 15 sec, corresponded to high pressure loss volatility produced by the pulse pressure. Furthermore, low pressure loss volatility was noted at $5kg/cm^2$ of the overall pulse pressure.

  • Performance of domestic glass fabrics was tested in a Pulse- jet cleaned fabric filter under simulated coal combustion. Pulse Pressure were 2.5, 4.0kgf/$\textrm{cm}^2$ and pulse air nozzle diameter were 4.0, 6.0mm Pressure drop and penetration turned out to be low at small pulse air nozzle diameter and low pulse air pressure. Fractional penetration through the dust cake and fabric at face velocity of 1.7m/min was higher than that at face velocity of 1.0m/min. As a consequense, the performance of domestic glass fabrics was better with face velocity of less than 1.0m/min, pulse air pressure of 2.5 kgf/$\textrm{cm}^2$ and pusle air nozzle diameter of 4.0mm.

  • Objectives: Many types of dust collector are used for industrial ventilation, with the most common types being the cylinder bag filter system, rectangular bag filter system and cylinder type cartridge filter system. The cylinder type cartridge bag filter, which has more filtering area than other types of bag filter, can increase the pulse time and extend the useful life of the filter. This can save operational costs and installation area. Materials: This study used cylinder type cartridge bag filter equipment and tested the impact of vibration level and filter pressure with different pulse jet cleaning conditions. The final, cleaning efficiency was calculated through input dust mass and cleaning dust mass Conclusions: Two optimum cleaning condition groups were found. The first condition group was $3kgf/cm^2$ pulse pressure, 15 cm pulse distance, 0.2 s pulse time with an H-10 type nozzle. The second condition group was $3kgf/cm^2$ pulse pressure, 15 cm pulse distance, 0.3 s pulse time with an H-10 type nozzle.

  • An axisymmetric Navier-Stokes procedure has been developed to analyze the pulse jet flow in a ceramic filter unit for the dust dislodging process. Using Baldwin-Lomax turbulence model as a closure relationship, the SIAF(Scalar Implicit Approximate Factorization) algorithm together with the ${\delta}^k-Correction$ iterative time marching scheme is adopted to solve the unsteady compressible Navier-Stokes equations. After some validation tests, the code has been applied to solve the pulse jet flow and examine the effects of geometry and reservoir pressure condition on the pressure level inside the filter unit. To avoid dealing with the uncertainty of such factors as the cohesion of the collected dust and the adhesion of the dust to the medium and also to simplify the analysis, the filter wall is assumed to be impermeable. The results for various test cases are presented.

  • The electromagnetic force induced by an intense electric current pulse, which generates an electromagnetic field around the metal jet originating from a shaped charge, can disperse and scatter the high-speed metal jet. An electric device consisting of an RLC circuit applies an intense electric current pulse that flows in the circuit while the metal jet passes between two electrodes. In this study, the metal jet formation was simulated using the ALE technique in 2-D, and a 3-D finite element model was mapped using 2-D simulation results to induce the electric current directly. The deformed shapes of the metal jet and the electromagnetic force were calculated using a finite element analysis by inducing the electric current directly, and the major parameters of the intense electric current pulse for breaking up the metal jet were examined.

  • A pilot-scale pulse-jet bagfilter was designed, built and tested for the effects of four operating conditions (filtration velocity, inlet dust concentration, pulse pressure, and pulse interval time) on the total system pressure drop, using coke dust from a steel mill factory. Two models were used to predict the total pressure drop according to the operating conditions. These model parameters were estimated from the 180 experimental data points. The empirical model (EM) with filtration velocity, areal density, inlet dust concentration, pulse interval time and pulse pressure shows the best correlation coefficient (R=0.971) between experimental data and model predictions. The empirical model was used as it showed higher correlation coefficient (R=0.971) compared to that of the Multivariate linear regression(MLR) (R=0.961). The minimum pulse pressure predicted by empirical model (EM) was 5kg/$cm^2$.

  • Present studies of these experiments was conducted to using water, over a range of cross-flow velocities from 42 to 136 m/s, with injection frequencies from 35.7 to 166.2 Hz. In cross-flow field, main parameters of liquid jet for secondary breakup were cross-flow drag rather than pressure pulse frequency. As oscillation of the periodic pressure, liquid jet was moved up and down. Also, a bulk of liquid jet puff was detected at upper field of liquid surface. Because of pressure pulsation frequency, an inclination of SMD for the structured layer was evanescent. Cross-sectional characteristics of SMD at downstream area were non-structured distributions. The tendency of volume flux value for various frequency of pressure pulse was same distribution. And volume flux was decreased when the frequency of pressure pulse increasing.

  • The pressure drop through pulse air jet-type bag filter is one of the most important factors on the operating cost of bagfilter houses. In this study, the pilot-scale pulse air jet-type bag filter with about 6 m2 filtration area was designed and tested for investigating the effects of the four operating conditions on the total pressure drop, using the coke dust collected from a steel mill factory. When the face velocity is higher than 2 m/min, it is not applicable to on-spot due to the increase of power expenses resulting from a high-pressure drop, and thus, 1.5 m/min is considered to be reasonable. The regression analysis results show that the degree of effects of independent parameters is a order of face velocity > concentration > time > pressure. The results of SPSS answer tree analysis also reveal that the operation time affects the pressure drop greatly in case of 1 m/min of face velocity, while the inlet concentration affects the pressure drop in case of face velocity more than 1.5 m/min.

  • A study is to predict the effective pulsing distance following to the pulsing pressure, nozzle diameter, filtration velocity using numercial analysis techniques and use it as an efficient operation condition and economic data for on-line type pulse air jet bag filter. Filtration area 6 m2 condition, calculate filter resistance coefficient for simulation through the primary experiments using coke dust. For CFD simulation, analysis pulsing characteristics about nozzle diameter, filtration velocity and pulsing pressure. The maximum pulsing length of on-line type pulse air jet bag filter, in 10mm nozzle, filtration velocity 1.5m/min and pulsing pressure 5 bar conditions, is 2,285 mm, maximum length is 76.2% of the total filter bag, which is sufficient to pulsing. In 12mm nozzle, pulsing pressure 5 bar and filtration area 1.22 m2 conditions, the maximum pulsing length of on-line type pulse air jet bag filter is 1,744~2,952 mm, and the maximum length is 2,952 mm indicates pulsing air can be reached to the bottom of filter bag. When the nozzle diameter is increased 8mm to 10mm, maximum pulsing length is extended 40~47%, and increased 10mm to 12 mm, maximum pulsing length is extended 10~17%. For effective pulsing, over the 5bar of pulsing pressure and larger than 10 mm of nozzle diameter are required.

  • In this study, pressure drop was measured in the pulse jet bag filter without venturi on which 16 numbers of filter bags (Ø$140{\times}850{\ell}$) are installed according to operation condition(filtration velocity, inlet dust concentration, pulse pressure, and pulse interval) using coke dust from steel mill. The obtained 180 pressure drop test data were used to predict pressure drop with multiple regression model so that pressure drop data can be used for effective operation condition and as basic data for economical design. The prediction results showed that when filtration velocity was increased by 1%, pressure drop was increased by 2.2% which indicated that filtration velocity among operation condition was attributed on the pressure drop the most. Pressure was dropped by 1.53% when pulse pressure was increased by 1% which also confirmed that pulse pressure was the major factor affecting on the pressure drop next to filtration velocity. Meanwhile, pressure drops were found increased by 0.3% and 0.37%, respectively when inlet dust concentration and pulse interval were increased by 1% implying that the effects of inlet dust concentration and pulse interval were less as compared with those changes of filtration velocity and pulse pressure. Therefore, the larger effect on the pressure drop the pulse jet bag filter was found in the order of filtration velocity($V_f$), pulse pressure($P_p$), inlet dust concentration($C_i$), pulse interval($P_i$). Also, the prediction result of filtration velocity, inlet dust concentration, pulse pressure, and pulse interval which showed the largest effect on the pressure drop indicated that stable operation can be executed with filtration velocity less than 1.5 m/min and inlet dust concentration less than $4g/m^3$. However, it was regarded that pulse pressure and pulse interval need to be adjusted when inlet dust concentration is higher than $4g/m^3$. When filtration velocity and pulse pressure were examined, operation was possible regardless of changes in pulse pressure if filtration velocity was at 1.5 m/min. If filtration velocity was increased to 2 m/min. operation would be possible only when pulse pressure was set at higher than $5.8kgf/cm^2$. Also, the prediction result of pressure drop with filtration velocity and pulse interval showed that operation with pulse interval less than 50 sec. should be carried out under filtration velocity at 1.5 m/min. While, pulse interval should be set at lower than 11 sec. if filtration velocity was set at 2 m/min. Under the conditions of filtration velocity lower than 1 m/min and high pulse pressure higher than $7kgf/cm^2$, though pressure drop would be less, in this case, economic feasibility would be low due to increased in installation and operation cost since scale of dust collection equipment becomes larger and life of filtration bag becomes shortened due to high pulse pressure.
