This paper proposes a carrier-based pulse width modulation (PWM) method to control an indirect matrix converter (IMC) by analyzing the relationship between the space vector PWM (SVPWM) and the carrier-based PWM. The complexity of the SVPWM method for an IMC can be reduced by using an equivalent carrier-based PWM method. The advantage of the proposed algorithm is its ability use only one symmetrical triangular carrier signal to generate the gate signals for all of the power switches in both the rectifier and inverter stages as compared to the conventional method where the carrier signal used in the rectifier stage is different from that of the inverter stage. In addition, by using a suitable offset voltage component in the modulation signals, the output voltage magnitude reaches 0.866 of the input voltage magnitude. Simulation and experimental results are provided in order to validate the proposed method.

A new simplified topology for a dynamic voltage restorer (DVR) based on direct converter with a reduced number of switches is presented. The direct converter is fabricated using only three bi-directional controlled switches. The direct converter is connected between the grid and center-tapped series transformer. The center-tapped series transformer is used to inject the compensating voltage synthesized by the direct converter. The DVR can properly compensate for long-duration, balanced, and unbalanced voltage sag and swell by taking power from the grid. The switches are driven by ordinary pulse width modulation signals. Simulation and hardware results validate the idea that the proposed topology can mitigate sag of 50% and swell of unlimited quantity.

A new soft recovery pulse width modulation quasi resonant converter composed only passive devices snubber network is proposed. This passive devices snubber network is revised form of folding snubber network that suppressed the reverse recovery current of main rectify diode in PWM converter. It also makes the MOSFET switching devices operate in soft state. The efficient of the proposed converter is almost same level to that of the converter of active snubber type. The overall circuit is simple and easy to realized. Therefore, it is suitable to apply to middle range output power source.
A new asymmetrical pulse width modulation (PWM) half bridge converter with improved ZVS performance is proposed. The ZVS operation of the proposed converter can be maintained from no load to full load conditions since the magnetizing current of the transformer contributes to the ZVS operation at light loads without considerable conduction loss of the transformer and switch. Synchronous rectification is employed to reduce the rectification loss. Operational principles, large signal modeling, ZVS analysis and design equations are presented. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed converter can achieve a large ZVS range and significant improvement in efficiency for a 100W (5V, 20A) prototype converter.
This paper proposes a new doubly-fed induction generator (DFIG) system using a matrix converter controlled by direct duty ratio pulse-width modulation (DDPWM) scheme. DDPWM is a recently proposed carrier based modulation strategy for matrix converters which employs a triangular carrier and voltage references in a voltage source inverter. By using DDPWM, the matrix converter can directly and effectively generate rotor voltages following the voltage references within the closed control loop. The operation of the proposed DFIG system was verified through computer simulation and experimental works with a hardware simulator of a wind power turbine, which was built using a motor-generator set with vector drive. The simulation and experimental results confirm that a matrix converter with a DDPWM modulation scheme can be effectively applied for a DFIG wind power system.

DC/DC switching power converters produce DC output voltages from different stable DC input sources regulated by a bi-polar transistor. The converters can be used in regenerative braking of DC motors to return energy back in the supply, resulting in energy savings for the systems containing frequent stops. The voltage mode DC/DC converter is composed of a PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) controller, a MOSFET (Metal Oxide Semiconductor Field Effect Transistor), an inductor, and capacitors, etc. PWM is applied to control and regulate the total output voltage. It is shown that the output of DC/DC converter depends on the variation of threshold voltage at MOSFET and the variation of pulse width. In the PWM operation, the missing pulses, the changes in pulse width, and a change in the period of the output waveform are studied by SPICE (Simulation Program with Integrated Circuit Emphasis) and experiments.
This paper describes a tripple-mode high-efficiency DC-DC buck converter. The DC-DC buck converter operate in PWM(Pulse Width Modulation) mode at moderate to heavy loads(100mA~500mA), in PFM(Pulse Frequency Modulation)at light loads(1mA~100mA), and in LDO(Low Drop Out) mode at the sleep mode(<1mA). In PFM mode DPSS(Dynamic Partial Shutdown Strategy) is also employed to increase the efficiency at light loads. The triple-mode converter can thus achieve high efficiencies over wide load current range. The proposed DC-DC converter is designed in a CMOS 0.18um technology. It has a maximum power efficiency of 96.4% and maximum output current of 500mA. The input and output voltages are 3.3V and 2.5V, respectively. The chip size is 1.15mm ${\times}$ 1.10mm including pads.

This paper describes a tripple-mode DC-DC buck converter with DPSS Fucntion. The DC-DC buck converter operate in PWM(Pulse Width Modulation) mode at moderate to heavy loads(80mA~500mA), in PFM(Pulse Frequency Modulation)at light loads(1mA~80mA), and in LDO(Low Drop Out) mode at the sleep mode(<1mA). It has a maximum power efficiency of 97.02% and maximum output current of 500mA. The input and output voltages are 3.3V and 2.5V, respectively. The chip size is $1465um{\times}895um$ including pads.
As a method for improving the power factor and the waveform of ac line current drawn by ac to dc converters, converters of pulse-width control type with forced commutation circuits have been developed in recent years. However, these converters have rather complex commutation circuits which contain auxiliary thyristors in addition to the main thyristors, and their performance is not satisfactory. This paper proposes a new pulse-width controlled ac to dc converter, and analyses its commutation mechanism and its input and output characteristics. The proposed converter circuit consists of a usual thyristor bridge circuit with series diodes to which reactors and diodes are added. This circuit dose not contain auxiliary thyristors, and in this sense it is simpler than the previous converter circuits of pulse-width control type. Since the main thyristors of the converter can be forcedly turned off several times in a half cycle of source voltage, a pulse-width modulation control is possible in order to improve the current waveform as well as the power factor on ac line side. As to dc output side it is shown that the adjustable range of output voltage is wide and the voltage regulation is good due to a rapid reversal of voltage across the commutating capacitors by LC resonance during commutation period. It is also shown that the regenerative operation of the converter is possible.

The independently regulated dual-output LLC resonant converter using only one power stage and one control IC is proposed in this paper. The conventional dual-output LLC resonant converter requires the extra non-isolated DC/DC converter to obtain the tightly regulated slave output voltage, which results in the low power conversion efficiency and high production costs. On the other hand, since the proposed converter controls the master and slave output voltages by pulse width modulation(PWM) and pulse frequency modulation(PFM), it can achieve tightly regulated dual output voltages without the additional non-isolated DC/DC converter. Therefore, it features a high efficiency and low cost. To confirm the validity of the proposed converter, theoretical analysis and experimental results from a 40W LED driver prototype are presented.
