  • A major concern in pediatric dentistry is maximizing risk management through optimal monitoring of respiratory function during sedation techniques, and Pulse Oximeter is one of the most popular devices for these purpose. Pulse Oximeter is non-invasive device for detecting the sensitive fraction between the saturated & desaturated hemoglobin. Several Studies proved that there is no significant difference between the $SpO_2$ and $SaO_2$. In this article, We examined three Pulse Oximeter $(3300MX^{(R)},\;OX90^{(R)},\;BPM200^{(R)})$. The Pulse Oximeter using shorter pulse beat averaging showed more sensitive reaction to the statue of the patient and lower saturation data. We compared pair of Pulse Oximeter applied to one patient at one time. and $BPM200^{(R)}$(using shorter pulse beat averaging) showed statistically low saturation.

  • Traditionally, EPT and thermal tests were used as diagnostic methods for pulp vitality test. The thermal and electrical stimulation tests are the methods to determine the vitality of a tooth based on its neuronal response. These have certain limitations, one of them is the difficulty of approaching the correct result in case of treatment of children. The reason is management problem caused by the unpleasant stimulation. Also, the response from patients are not objective, and false positive or false negative could be happened. Recently, laser doppler flowmetry and pulse oximeter which evaluate vascular integrity are introduced in an effort of overcoming to limitation of traditional methods. The principle of pulse oximeter is to and out level of oxygen saturation by ratio of the two pulses between emitted light and detected light penetrating them to the termination of body, such as ears or fingers. From this point of view, it can be applied to a tooth to determine its vitality. The objective of this study lies mainly on varifying pulse oximeter as a method of determining tooth vitality and providing basic data of its clinical implementation. The result of the research showed that level of oxygen saturation in vital teeth was average of 96.3% and 0.0% in pulpless teeth. As a comprehensive result, pulse oximeter could be an useful diagnostic equipment in determining of tooth vitality.

  • A conventional pulse oximeter has high power consumption; thus, its mobility is severely limited. In this paper, we discuss the drawbacks of the existing pulse oximeters and propose a new ultra-low-power pulse oximeter that supports wireless data transmission for remotely monitoring vital signs, such as peripheral capillary oxygen saturation (SpO2) and beats per minute (BPM). We could notably reduce power consumption by using a low-frequency single clock in all well-customized modules. Also, our device is publicly certified, and thus, possibly engaged in clinical trials for commercial use.

  • Purpose: This study aimed to compare the oxygen saturation measured at fingertips with unpolished and self-artificial nails (sticker, tip) using a portable pulse oximeter. Methods: The sample comprised 27 women who had used nail care services. Using a pulse oximeter, oxygen saturation was measured at fingertips with unpolished nails in a stable state. Self-fabricated sticker and tip nails were attached to the right and left hands, respectively, using five nail colors (black, blue, green, purple, and brown). Oxygen saturation was measured at fingertips with self-fabricated nails first in the usual manner and then measured again by rotating the oximeter by 90°. Values of oxygen saturation were compared and analyzed using the Friedman test and Wilcoxon signed-rank test with Bonferroni correction using IBM SPSS 26.0. Results: Oxygen saturation values were significantly different among colors for both sticker nails (p=.036) and tip nails (p=.000), with black self-artificial nails tending to demonstrate lower oxygen saturation. Moreover, oxygen saturation values obtained by measuring the usual way on unpolished nails was significantly different than those obtained by rotating the oximeter by 90° on thumb with sticker (p=.001) and tip nails (p=.001). Conclusion: The findings of this study suggest that oxygen saturation should be measured on other fingers except for thumb instead of removing the self-artificial nails in emergency situations. For patients with black self-artificial nails, is the findings recommend measuring oxygen saturation at other body parts such as toes, earlobes, forehead, etc.

  • In this paper, we aims to develop a microcontroll er-based ECG monitoring system and portable pulse oximeter using Compact Flash Interface. First, portable pulse oximeter system is designed to record 2 channel of biosignals simultaneously, including 1 channel of $SpO_2$ and 1 channel of pulse rate. It is very small and portable. Besides, the system makes it possible to measure a patient's condition without an additional medical equipment. We tried to solve the problems generated by a patient's motion. That is, we added an analog circuit to a traditional pulse oximeter in order to eliminate the change of the base line. And we used 2D sector algorithm. As present, SpO2 modules are completed. But there are still many further development needed in order to enhance the function. Especially, compact falsh interface remains the most to complete. Second, ECG monitoring system uses almost same as present 3-lead ECG system. But we focus on the analog part, especially in filter. The proposed filter is composed of two parts. One is a filter to remove the power-line interface. The other is a filter to remove the baseline drift. A filter to remove the power-line and the baseline drift is necessarily used in the ECG system. The implemented filter have three features; minimizing the distortion in DC component, removing the harmonic component of power-line frequency. Using compact flash interface, we can easily transfer a patient's personal information and the measured signal data to a network based server environment. That means, it is possible to implement a patient's monitoring system with low cost.

  • With the continuous aging of the populations in developed countries, the medical requirements of the aged are expected to increase. In this paper, a ring-type pulse oximeter finger sensor and a 24-hour ambulatory heart rate monitoring system for the aged are presented. We also demonstrate the feasibility of extracting accurate heart rate variability measurements from photoelectric plethysmography signals gathered using a ring-type pulse oximeter sensor attached to the finger. We designed the heart rate sensor using a CPU with built-in ZigBee stack for simplicity and low power consumption. We also analyzed the various distorted signals caused by motion artifacts using a FFT, and designed an algorithm using a least squares estimator to calibrate the signals for better accuracy.

  • In this paper, we implemented a pulse wave type oximeter system that continuously measure the of oxyhemoglobin saturation of the arterial blood(SaO2) and pulse rate with non-invasively. We use the transmission type and reflection type transducer for comparison the percentage of hemoglobin oxgen saturation. The light Iron the two kind of LEDs is transmitted through the tissue, then received by a single photodiode with alternatively. By the phase sensitive detection circuit, the output of the photodiode is separated in to red and near infrared signal. We calculated a ratio of light transmittance between two kind of LEDs, and then, it is applied to the oxgen saturation coefficent calculation formular.
