  • Presengly reinforced earth is widely utilized for earth structure increasingly not only domestic but also in many foreign countries because of its rapidity of construction and economic merits. The study on the reinforced earth has been actively carried out and enlarged in the theoretical aspect. But it has many problems to the application of the field. In this study large scale Pull-out Test was used to analyze reinforced earthe behavior considering deformation character of reinforced earth under the similar condition to the field.

Experimental bond behavior of hybrid rods for concrete reinforcement

  • Fiber reinforced plastic (FRP) rods provide certain benefits over steel as concrete reinforcement, such as corrosion resistance, magnetic and electrical insulation, light weight, and high strength. FRP composites can be combined with a steel core to form hybrid reinforcing rods that take advantage of properties of both materials. The objective of this study was to characterize the bond behavior of hybrid FRP rods made with braided epoxy-impregnated aramid or poly-vinyl alcohol FRP skins. Eleven rod types were tested using two concrete strengths. Specific topics examined were bond strength, slip, and type of failure in concentric pull-out tests from concrete cubes. From analysis of identical pull-out tests on both hybrid and steel rods, information on relative bond strength and behavior were obtained. It is concluded that strength is similar but slip in hybrid rods is much higher. Hybrid rods failed either by pull-out or splitting the concrete block (with or without yielding of the steel core). Experimental data showed consistency with similar test results presented in the literature.

  • The main objective of this study is to provide a parametric evaluation of the pull-out response of steel fibers embedded in cementitious matrices. The various parameters controlling the behavior of the bond stress versus end slip relationship are analyzed; their effects on the entire pull-out load versus end slip response and the corresponding pull-out energy up to total pull-out are investigated. Also discussed are the effects of the fiber length, the water/binder ratio of the mixtures and embedded length.

  • An experimental study was performed on the pull-out behavior of 90-deg standard hooks from exterior beam-column connections. The effects of the number of hooked bars of joint area were investigated. Under the pull-out action of hooked bars, the damage and cracking of joint area tends to be more extensive as the number of hooks pulling out from a joint increases. The pull-out strength and post-peak ductility of hooked bar are adversely influenced by the increase in number of hooks pulling out from an exterior joint. Current hooked bar anchorage design guidelines may be improved by considering the effect of the number of hooked bars on anchorage conditions at exterior joints.

록볼트 인발 시 그라우트 강도에 따른 인발 거동 (The Pull-out Behavior of Rock Bolts According to Grout Strength during Rock Bolt Pull-out )

  • 본 논문에서는 시험적 연구를 통해 록볼트가 지보효과를 발휘하는 시기를 그라우트 강도로 제시하고, 수치해석적 연구를 통해 지반조건과 경계면 강도감소계수에 따른 록볼트 인발 거동을 분석한 연구를 다루었다. 그 결과 록볼트는 그라우트 강도 5 MPa(재령 18시간)에서 지보효과를 발휘하였으며, 경계면 강도감소계수의 영향은 록볼트 변위의 경우 연약한 지반일수록, 그라우트- 지반의 전단응력의 경우 지반의 탄성계수가 높을수록, 그라우트 응력의 경우 모든 지반조건에서 영향이 큰 것으로 분석되었다. 이러한 연구결과는 록볼트 인발시험의 구체적인 기준 재정립과 록볼트 수치해석에 도움이 될 것으로 판단된다.

  • 지반앵커의 정착장에 작용하는 정착응력 분포 특성은 매우 비선형적이며 공학적인 메카니즘이 비교적 복잡하기 때문에 다양한 지반조건 및 비선형적 주면전단거동을 구체적으로 모사하여 지반앵커를 설계하는데 어려움이 크다. 이런 한계로 인하여 현재 대부분의 관련 설계 기준서에는 편의상 정착장 전장에 걸쳐 일정한 주면전단응력분포를 가정하여 설계에 적용하고 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 인장형 앵커의 인발거동 특성을 분석하기 위하여 풍화토 지반조건을 대상으로 현장인발시험을 수행하였으며 이를 토대로 앵커 정착장의 주면전단거동을 정립하고, 정착장 거동특성을 비교적 간편하게 예측하기 위한 다중선형모델 및 이를 적용한 해석적 기법을 제안하였다. 현장시험결과와 해석적 결과가 상호 유사하게 나타남에 따라 본 연구에서 제시된 다중선형모델 및 이를 이용한 해석적 기법의 적용성 및 유효성을 확인할 수 있었다. 정착장 주면전단거동의 경우 최대인발하중 보다 작은 하중조건에서는 정착장 시작점에서 최대전단응력이 분포하게 되나 최대인발하중이 발생한 이후부터는 정착장 시작점에서 전단응력이 가장 작게 분포하고, 정착장 시작점으로부터 일정거리 이격된 지점에서 최대전단응력이 발생함을 확인하였다.

  • In this thesis the model tests were performed to the pull-out characteristics of a suction pile subjected to a pull-out in sands. For this model tests, three different soil conditions ($D_r$=45, 65, 82%), three pile diameters (D=100, 150, 200mm) and three pile lengths (L=100, 150, 200mm), were changed. And the experimental results were also compared with those by the theoretical methods. The results by the experimental and theoretical analysis are as follows. The ultimate pull-out resistances increased as the relative density of sands, pile diameter, length and the ratio of pile length to diameter increased. The ultimate pull-out resistance by Meyerhof method(1973) overestimated that by the model test, but the results using the soil-pile friction angle suggested by Aas(1966) in the Meyerhof(1973) method were in good agreement with the experimental results.

  • To analyze a bond stress-slip behavior between a reinforcing bar and concrete under repeated loading, pull-out fatigue test was performed. Major variables were repeated stress levels and cycle numbers. Test specimen was taken repeated constant amplitude loading before it was fractured by pull-out test. Evaluation of failure mode of tunnel-type anchorage for a suspension bridge via scaled model tests and image processing

  • In this study, the pull-out behavior of a tunnel-type anchorage for suspension bridges was investigated using experimental tests and image processing analyses. The study focused on evaluating the initial failure behavior and failure mode of the tunnel-type anchorage. In order to evaluate the failure mode of tunnel-type anchorage, a series of scaled model tests were conducted based on the prototype anchorage of the Ulsan Grand Bridge. In the model tests, the anchorage body and surrounding rocks were fabricated using a gypsum mixture. The pull-out behavior was investigated under plane strain conditions. The results of the model tests demonstrate that the tunnel-type anchorage underwent a wedge-shaped failure. In addition, the failure mode changed according to the differences in the physical properties of the surrounding rock and the anchorage body and the size of the anchor plate. The size of the anchor plate was found to be an important parameter that determines the failure mode. However, the difference in physical properties between the surrounding rock and the anchorage body did not affect its size. In addition, this study analyzed the initial failure behavior of the tunnel-type anchorage through image analysis and confirmed that the failure was sequentially transferred from the inside of the tunnel to the surrounding rock according to the image analysis. The reasonable failure mode for the design of the tunnel-type anchorage should be wedge-type rather than pull-out type.

Effect of high temperature on the bond performance between steel bars and recycled aggregate concrete

  • The use of recycled aggregate concrete for the purpose of environmental and resource conservation has gained increasing interest in construction engineering. Nevertheless, few studies have reported on the bonding performance of the bars in recycled aggregate concrete after exposed to high temperatures. In this paper, 72 pull-out specimens and 36 cubic specimens with different recycled coarse aggregate content (i.e., 0%, 50%,100%) were cast to evaluate the bond behavior between recycled aggregate concrete and steel bar after various temperatures ($20^{\circ}C$, $200^{\circ}C$, $400^{\circ}C$, $600^{\circ}C$). The results show that the recycled aggregate concrete pull-out specimens exhibited similar bond stress-slip curves at both ambient and high temperature. The bond strength declined gradually with the increase of the temperature. On the basis of a regression analysis of the experimental data, a revised bond strength mode and peak slip ratios relationship model were proposed to predict the post-heating bond-slip behavior between recycled aggregate concrete and steel bar.
