This study was undertaken to explain weight control behavior and intention of obese children and adolescents as measured by the elements of the health belief model. A total of 732 obese students from 28 schools in Seoul metropolitan area and their mothers were assessed with a self-administered questionnaire. The analyzed results are as follows; 1. Among obese students, 45.3% of male students and 57.2% of female students, a significantly higher portion than male students, reported that they had tried to lose weight within the recent year. Exercise was the most frequently used method to lose weight followed by diet control, drug use, and specialized clinic visits, in descending order. 2. Male students were more likely to try to lose weight if they perceived a low threat level and their mother had a job, and female students were more likely to try to lose weight if they were younger in age, perceived a low threat level and had strong external motivating factors. 3. Female students showed a significantly higher level of intention to obesity control than male students, and the intention level of their mothers also showed the same trend. 4. In male students, the degree of weight dissatisfaction, weight control experience, the level of obesity related beliefs of students, the educational level of the mother and economic status of the family were significant predictors of intention to obesity control, and in females, age, the level of obesity related beliefs of students and intention of their mothers were significant. In the mothers of male students, obesity index of students, age of the mother and the level of obesity related beliefs of the mother were significant predictors of intention of the mother, and in the mothers of female students, obesity index of students, occupational status of the mother and obesity related beliefs of the mother were significant. 5. According to the path model of intention to obesity control, the degree of weight dissatisfaction had the most powerful effect in male students, and perceived net benefit level was the most important variable in female students. Since the weight control behavior and intention of obese students were more predictable by the degree of weight dissatisfaction than the obesity index, we can conclude that only the students dissatisfied with their weight are well motivated for obesity control. There can be a discrepancy between the mother and her child's beliefs and intention status(especially in male students), so the therapists should also assess the student's opinion as well as the mother's. In female students, the perceived net benefit level wag the most important predictor of intention to obesity control, therefore the intervention program should pay particular attention to the positive benefits of weight control rather than negative aspects(threats) of obesity.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to investigate the correlation between the obesity rate in elementary school students in Daejeon and the relevant factors such as social-demographical factors, genetic factors, birth factors, diet factors and intelligence factors. Methods: For the research, 443 fourth grade students, 405 fifth grade students and 417 sixth grade students from six elementary schools in Daejeon Metropolitan City Participated in this study and classified into three groups: normal-weight group, mild obesity group, and moderate or severe obesity group. Results: The total obesity rate of the elementary school students in the school district of Daejeon Metropolitan City was 14.2%; the rate of mild obesity was 7.2%; the rate of moderate obesity was 5.5%; and the rate of severe obesity was 1.5%. The obesity rate of surveyed boys was 16.9%, and the obesity rate of girls was 11.1%. The significant factors for girls' obesity were fathers' EMI, mothers' EMI, living standards, constant demand of foods, preference for greasy foods, frequency of eating snacks, and daily walking hours. It was found that students' subjective mind and objective health index were related to obesity. In the case of obese students, they had more concern about their health and more stress from the dissatisfaction of their physical appearance than normal students. Conclusions: From the above evidences, it is apparent that the obesity of elementary school students has strong relations with eating habits rather than physical activities. It is to be hoped that obesity prevention programs such as effective meal guidance. parental guidance for watching TV, and intense physical activities will be included in the curriculums of health education for elementary school students.

Objectives: This study is to examine the influences of three sub-factors of resilience on academic burn out among a group of university students, with low resilience, majored in public health. Methods: The survey was made during January 1 to 13, 2017 and after checking the resilience scores of 166 respondents and the questionnaires of 115 respondents, whose scores were less than 195, an average score of Korea, were selected and analyzed using AMOS. Results: The average resilience and academic burn-out scores were 173 and 2.96, respectively. The goodness-of-fit of proposed model showed RMSEA=0.068, GFI=0.916, NFI=0.901, IFI=0.963, CFI=0.962 so, final measurement model was selected. The analysis of the suggested model showed that among three sub-factors of resilience, only self-control ability had a negative(-) effect on academic burnout and two others were shown to have no effects. Conclusion: By researching and introducing a education method that could enhance self-control ability, it would effectively reduce academic burnout in university students with low resilience and majored in public health.
Objectives: This study aimed to investigate life stressors and mitigating factors affecting suicide ideation amongst university students in Korea. Methods: Study participants were recruited online from one of the universities in Seoul. The total of 794 samples were included in the final dataset. First, correlation analyses were performed among life stressors, depression and mitigating factors. Second, factorial analysis was conducted to explore different dimensions of he life stressors experienced by the university students. Finally, we used logistic regression to find out the relationship between university students' sub-stressors or mitigating factors, and suicide ideation. Results: Three sub-stressors were identified - interpersonal relationship stress, academic stress and economic stress. All of these stressors were significantly associated with suicide ideation. However, none of them significantly predicted suicide ideation controlling for depression. All mitigating factors - health related behaviors, social support and leisure activities - were statistically significant and negatively related to depression, yet only social support had a significantly negative association with suicide ideation. Conclusions: In conclusion, Social support is the most important factor which may affect suicide ideation among university students in Korea.
In order to investigate the knowledge and awareness of radon among public health students, this survey was conducted on second-year health students at three-year universities in the Busan and Gyeongnam regions and the results were analyzed. As a result of this study, firstly, the scores of radon knowledge according to gender were found to be high in men and radiologists, but there was no statistical difference. Second, as a result of the radon awareness survey, the radiology department students had the highest awareness, showing a statistically significant difference. Third, as a result of correlation analysis, the result was that the higher the knowledge about radon, the higher the awareness. Public health students are students who will be working to improve public health after graduation, so increasing their knowledge of radon will help improve public health. Therefore, it is believed that providing education about radon through the curriculum will be helpful in cultivating radon knowledge.
Purpose: The COVID-19 pandemic, which emerged in late 2019, had a profound impact on global public health and disrupted the daily lives of people worldwide. Particularly, university students faced a challenging situation as their university life underwent a drastic transformation due to long-term remote learning and isolation measures. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between changes in daily life during the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic and depressive symptoms among university students aged between 19 and 29 in Korea. Methods: We analyzed data from the nationally representative 2020 Community Health Survey (CHS). Among the 229,269 participants, 9,279 university students aged 19-29, either enrolled or on leave, were selected. After excluding 401 cases with missing values, the final sample comprised 8,878 individuals. Using multivariate logistic regression with a complex sample design, we explored the association between daily life changes during the COVID-19 pandemic and depressive symptoms. Results: Changes in daily life during the COVID-19 pandemic was associated with depressive symptoms in Korean university students aged 19 to 29, even after adjusting for sociodemographic characteristics, health-related factors, and COVID-19-related aspects (OR=1.28, 95% CI=1.09~1.50). Conclusion: Our study suggests that when examining the impact of COVID-19 on health issues, it is crucial to consider the changes in daily life caused by the pandemic. These findings can provide insights into the psychological well-being of university students during times of crisis.
Purpose: This study was conducted to evaluate the relationship between self-control behavior, social comparison attitude, self-efficacy and health promotion activities of college students who had health related majors (nursing, dental hygiene, health administration). Methods: The subjects consisted of 413 college students. Data were collected by self reported questionnaires that were designed to evaluate self-control behavior, social attitudes, self-efficacy and health promotion lifestyle (HPLP). Data were analyzed using the SPSS/PC win 14.0 program. Results: Upward & parallel comparison, self-efficacy and parents income were positively correlated with health promotion activities by college students. The most significant predictors of health promotion activities for college students were self-efficacy and self-control behavior. Conclusion: Health promotion activities for college students are influenced by self-efficacy, self-control behavior, and upward comparison. In conclusion, to increase the health promotion activities of college students, methods designed to increase self-efficacy should be prepared while considering the self-control behavior and comparative propensity towards others.
The present study aims to determine the grade and factors of the effects that influence the stress related to job finding of the university students majoring public health administration. The data was collected for 4days from June 7, 2011. Among a total of 360 cases of the questionaries, only 324 cases were used. To data were analyzed by frequency, t-test, ANOVA, correlation and regression using PASW statistics 18.0. From the analyses, it was found that school environment and study-related stress were some of major causes for stress in job finding. There was statistically significant difference in the sub-areas of job finding-related stress by gender, age, type of school, school grade, whether or not the graduating class and satisfaction with the major selected. There was statistically significant difference among the sub-areas of job finding-related stress such as academic achievements, characters, and school and family environments and whether in graduating class of collegians and their satisfaction with the major they chose turned out to exercise statistically significant impact upon the stress of the students majoring public health administration.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to research the distorted self-perception of body image held by many college students. Method: The subjects in this study consisted of 189 female college students and 125 male college students. The data were obtained through self-reported questionnaires completed by the students between April 1 and April 10, 2005. The data were analyzed by frequency and a $x^2$-test in the SPSS/pc 10.0 statistical program. Result: While female students tend to perceive themselves as being more overweight than they actually are according to their BMI scores, male students consider themselves to be thinner than they actually are according their BMI scores. Conclusion: Many female and male college students have a distorted self-perception of body weight. These findings indicate that health care providers need to do a better job of educating college students about normal body weight.
Purpose: This research examined the trend of school health education, using online research data on health behaviors of adolescents. Then it compared the health perceptions, healthy life practice, and health risk behaviors between students who received health education and students who did not. In addition, it predicted the impact of health education on health risk behaviors of students. Methods: Data from 72,435 participants of this survey were analyzed. Statistical analyses were performed on weighted data using the complex sampling design. Results: In the results of the research, general high schools students had the lowest rate of receiving health education, while sex education was the most actively held throughout the all locations. Next, medium-small cities had the lowest rate of receiving health education. Regarding health risk behaviors, students receiving health education had significantly lower rates of smoking, drinking, and sexual intercourse. Conclusion: This study shows that healthy life practices by students improves with the inclusion of health education, thus indicating that schools should invest in health education. This research generated evidence for the first time in Korea that school health education has a positive impact on health risk behaviors and provides basic data for policy development of school health education.
