  • The purpose of this study was to provide the basic data for developing a program for effective health education about AIDS (Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome) by investigating the knowledge and attitudes of middle and high school students about AIDS. The subjects were 476 middle school students and 658 high school students from Seoul and Kang Won province. The data were collected from November 19 to December 18. 1996. using a 56-item questionnaire. and analyzed by SAS program for t-test. x2-test. and pearson correlation coefficients. The results were as follows : 1. High school students had more knowledge than middle school students about AIDS. 2. Male. students from Seoul. and students who had drinking experience and smoking experience among middle school students. and male. students from Seoul. and students of non-coeducation among high school students were more knowledgeable about AIDS. 3. Misconceptions about the transmission of AIDS through non-intimate contact were especially common among middle school students. And a high proportion of middle and high school students knew very little about the symptoms of AIDS. 4. High school students had more positive attitudes toward AIDS than middle school students. 5. Students from Seoul and students who had smoking experience among middle school students. and students from Seoul and non-coeducation and students who had substance use experience among high school students were more positive attitudes about AIDS. 6. Most of the middle and high school students agreed that there is a need for AIDS education. 7. Middle and high school students reported that had learned about AIDS mostly from TV. Since students in the middle-school age group are especially at risk for developing AIDSrelated behaviors. this study findings suggest that it is crucial to develop school-based AIDS education programs that help students acquire the knowledge and attitudes to adopt and maintain behaviors that reduce the risk of HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) infection and other related health problems.

Method : Students were divided into the elementary, middle, high school students with the 776 cases of children and teenagers(7-19years old) of injury surveillance system in Cheonan area from january to june in 2009. Frequency analysis and $x^2$-test was done to recognize the features of students injuries among the groups. The program to be used for the statistical analysis is SPSS 17.0. Result : Out of the injury incidence rate, the elementary school students(52.1%) are first, the high school students (24.9%) are second, the middle school students appear to be 23.1%. Male is about two times higher than female by 66.6% in the injury incidence. In terms of the injury mechanism, the injury(22.2%) by hit is the first, the traffic accident(21.5%) is the second, the slippery(16.8%) is followed. The injuries were occurred most largely at 16:00-20:00(33.4%), and the 33.6% of injury by daily leisure activity occurs at 16:00-20:00 chiefly. Conclusion : Analysis using the data of the injury surveillance system has some advantages compared to the previous research such as reliability and specification. To prevent the students injuries, not the individual problem but the social dimension should be acknowledged so that we can secure and promote the safety from the risk. Therefore, we must organize the role assignment and the cooperative network in the school, home and community.

Furthermore, this study aimed to recognize the importance of prevention and treatment of internal and external factors and to contribute to the correct oral health management behavior. Methods: The study subjects were 500 students from 5 health departments of 2 universities located in Jeollanamdo who participated in self-administered survey from September 1 to 15, 2014. For statistical analysis, SPSS 21.0 for Windows was used. Descriptive analysis and a Chi-square test were conducted to investigate the effects of general characteristics, health behavior, oral health behavior, and oral health status on subjective oral malodor awareness. Finally, to investigate the relationship between oral health status and subjective oral malodor awareness logistic regression analysis was performed. Results: Subjective oral malodor awareness was significantly higher in the group requiring dental care with the score of 1.63 (95% CI 1.00-2.65) compared to the group not requiring dental care. Subjective oral malodor awareness was significantly higher in the severe coated tongue group with the score of 5.31 (95% CI 1.45-19.40) and significantly higher in the moderate coated tongue group with the score of 2.56 (95% CI 1.61-4.08). Subjective oral malodor awareness was significantly higher in the often mouth breathing group with the score of 2.13 (95% CI 1.02-4.47) and significantly higher in the sometimes mouth breathing group with the score of 2.66 (95% CI 1.65-4.29). Conclusions: In order to prevent oral malodor, it is emphasized that regular dental checkups, proper brushing after the meal, and brushing of the tongue are necessary to remove the coated tongue. In addition, the use of supplementary oral care products is considered to be a meaningful oral health behavior.

  • Purpose: This study was to examine the changes in knowledge, attitudes, and preventive behaviors among elementary school students after providing them with tuberculosis prevention education. Methods: A total of 235 students from D elementary school in G city were selected. After completing tuberculosis prevention education, the subjects were surveyed five times for 16 weeks. 1,087 samples were included in the final analysis. One-way ANOVA, $Scheff{\acute{e}$'s test, Pearson's correlation, and multiple regression analysis were performed to examine the changes in tuberculosis-related knowledge, attitudes and preventive behaviors over time. Results: After 16 weeks from the education, the scores of preventive behaviors did not show any significant difference compared to the time right after the education. However, the scores of knowledge and attitudes tended to improve. In particular, 1st~2nd graders had high scores in both knowledge and attitude, and the scores of knowledge and attitude gradually increased over time. The correlation between knowledge, attitude, and preventive behavior regarding tuberculosis had a positive significance during the entire time of the survey. Conclusion: Positive associations between knowledge and attitude and between attitude and preventive behavior sustained for 16 weeks after tuberculosis education among elementary school students. This study suggests that tuberculosis prevention education conducted early on from lower grades can produce more educational effects and that it could be a foundation not only for developing knowledge of tuberculosis but also for cultivating adequate attitudes and forming active tuberculosis preventive behaviors.
