  • The Beopmaru, Supreme Court Library of Korea, the national library of the judiciary, is the only one that can help reduce the justice gap and increase access to justice by allowing the general public and legal experts to read and circulate. Accordingly, this study identified user satisfaction with the Beopmaru public service through surveys and interviews and derived ways to improve the service. User satisfaction was in the following order out of 5 points: response of librarian 4.62 points, facility management 4.48 points, and cultural programs such as events and lectures 4.33 points. Satisfaction with collection composition was the lowest at 3.97 points. This appears to be because collection composition is where legal expertise has the greatest impact on satisfaction. As satisfaction with the collection composition was the lowest, collection expansion was the highest at 44%(114 people) as a service that Beopmaru needs to strengthen in the future, and a balanced collection of books according to the user base is needed in the future. Based on this, improvement measures were proposed to include dualizing the Beopmaru reading space and services for the general public and legal experts, strengthening its identity as a legal library, improving the system, and strengthening publicity and response of librarian. If the Beopmaru public service is successfully established through continuous research in the library and information community, it will be possible to improve the service quality of the law library industry as a whole, including law libraries, and increase user satisfaction.

  • A public librarian is an occupation, which requires long-term. continuous training and difficult study to acquire and cultivate professional knowledge and skills. It is a necessity to achieve new knowledge, information and skills via appropriate retraining. A training system is the method which gives chances of retraining to public librarians. After examining some of the problems with the existing training system, it is apparent that the direction of training system needs to be decentralized. That is each local branch should be autonomous in terms of new training for librarians. For the method of training system, each autonomous unit would integrate the different theories to apply to the community-at-large and invite practical specialists from the local community to lecture. The training classes would be elective in that the each librarian could choose the classes he/she wants to take and give them credits for that, but the certificate for the class would also go towards completion for the required technical training. Finally, the utilization of cyber-education should be introduced, and the library association's role strengthened, to help public librarians cultivate their specialties.

  • This study aims to examine how the specialty of librarians links between users' library experience and their resulting perception of the library in public libraries. After reviewing theoretical background studies, a questionnaire survey was conducted at six public libraries in Seoul and Gyeonggi Province. The analysis of the survey results showed that the perception of librarians' specialty had a mediation effect on the relationship between cultural, educational activity and library perception. However, information activity was not linked by the perception of librarians' specialty and only directly influenced on the library perception. Accordingly, the result raised a question of a discrepancy between the areas where the users gain the value of the library and where the librarians' specialty is perceived and some implications were suggested. This research is meaningful in integrating the users' library experience, librarians' specialty, and the library performance by external point of view on the specialty, traditionally regarded as an internal characteristic of the librarianship.

  • It was analysed and considered about entry methods of headings in Japanese book cataloging which using methods of major universities and public libraries in our nation at present. I was suggested and clarified one's position that authors heading must make an entry to our pronunciation after translating from sound of chines letters, title headings must make an entry translation from Japanese title or Chinese title, to Korean. On the cataloging of authors heading or title heading, if cataloging make an entry to Japanese pronunciation it have many faults as follow. (1) In the title and authors heading of Japanese books, if it make an entry as Kana letter, not only non skilled librarian at Japanese language will have many faults but also non skilled users to Japanese language or pronunciation will very difficult to reference in title and authors catalog card. (2) If it Romanize the catalog card of title and authors heading in the Japanese books, librarian of the catalog part will make efforts and take pains to the catalog work. In addition, catalog users which is skilled in Japanese language but can not understand or unknown to the Romanized entry, and which if not understand to the, methods of entry will very difficult to card investigation or can not refer to catalog card. (3) If it make an entry to Korean in the authors and title heading from Japanese sound or pronunciation, librairans and library users which is unskilful as Japanese language will be inconvenience to works and investigation of library materials.

The survey also shows that a librarian's emotional labor affects emotional intelligence of supervisor, social support and library service level positively. This finding is not the case for the employees in the general service industry. Because the librarian is professional and manages stress better than general employees. • The purpose of this study is to identify the current status of staff in school libraries and to provide suggestions for the development of these facilities through the job satisfaction of itinerant librarians, who act as support for schools which lack permanent staff. For employees in the South Korean provinces of South Jeolla, North Gyeongsan and South Gyeonsan, regions which currently operate using systems of itinerant librarians, the general status, work characteristics and systems were identified, and job satisfaction was surveyed. As a result of the survey, librarians may be in charge of anywhere from ten to two hundred schools, with approximately 30% of them being affiliated with public libraries in various municipalities. The overall job satisfaction averaged out to a score of 3.45 out of 5, with the categories of duties (4.15), a feeling of accomplishment (3.89) and communication (3.70) showing above average results, while opportunities for promotion (2.08) and job training (1.96) were on the lower end of the scale. For better job satisfaction, this study suggests an increase in the number of itinerant librarians, more job training, and having these professionals be affiliated with school boards rather than public libraries.
