Understanding Major Factors in Taking Internet based Lectures for the National College Entrance Exam according to Academic Performances by Case Studies (수능 인터넷강의 선호요인 사례분석 : 학업성취 수준을 중심으로)

  • This paper aimed to understand current trends in online lectures for Korean SAT based on students' academic performances through a qualitative interview approach. In results, the highest academic performance group showed a good deal of interest and usage in online lectures. This group participants preferred private online lectures to public ones. However, the lowest academic group liked to use public online lectures. The middle academic groups who lived in an expensive area spent a lot of money for tutoring or attending private institutes rather than online lectures. Suggestions are: self-regulated learning is needed, public onilne lectures should have improved contents, and lastly, these online lectures are required to be connected with regular school curriculum.

  • As the role and functions of public libraries have become more diverse and complex, professionalism of librarianship in public libraries is more emphasized than before. Meanwhile, the importance of humanities has been highlighted and as a result, humanities lectures are diffused along with the social change and advancement; something that most public libraries take into consideration. In that, this study look into the case of the Dongdaemun-Gu Public Digital Library with emphasis on 2013 and 2014 when the library tried to develop professionalism of librarianship in relation to lectures on humanities. And, based upon the analysis on the process of the program and survey results, this study intends to examine the relationship between professionalism of librarianship in public libraries and humanities lectures for public in oder to enhance our understanding on professionalism of librarianship in public libraries.

  • This study analyzes the public lecture conducted by a university in Seoul and examined how a public lecture on the emergence of a new media environment could influence the actual field of engineering education. The current public lecture is changing away from past patterns which have been conducted on a daily, irregular and offline basis. Online lectures such as Mooc programs, as well as broadcast programs in the Internet media environment, are becoming increasingly popular with mainstream education. This study focuses on exploring how public lecture experiences of engineering professors have affected the improvement of learner centered education and their communication skills. It also examines how public lecture in the field can affect to enhance public understanding of engineering. The advent of a new media environment is likely to inject new vitality into a college lecture that seems to fall behind in the past. It is highly likely that the reliance on the teaching capabilities of professors become higher according to the emphasis on active learning environment. The genre of public lecture is expected to greatly helpful to expand future engineering education methodologies.

  • From 1860s to 1910s, Rayleigh's efforts to reveal the nature and various features of sound continued to achieve good success in theory and experiment. Although his concern with acoustics primarily originated from intellectual curiosity, he did not ignore its practicality. His efforts were made to develop public lectures with demonstration experiments during his professorship at the Royal Institution of Great Britain. Acoustics covered the second-most frequent subject in his public lectures and his acoustical experiments were designed for satisfying the needs of the audience by employing ingenious strategies.

Study on the satisfaction and effectiveness of non-face-to-face lectures in 2020 and the necessity of face-to-face lectures: focusing on students studying public health at "S" college in Seongnam-si (2020년 비대면 온라인 강의만족도와 강의효과, 대면강의 필요성에 대한 연구: 경기도 성남시 소재 S 대학교 보건계열 학생을 중심으로)

  • Purpose: This study examined the correlations between the satisfaction and effectiveness of practical training and theory lectures under two conditions: face-to-face lectures and non-face-to-face online lectures. Methods: A survey of 436 public health student, whereafter SPSS 20.0 (IBM) was used on the data to conduct frequency, descriptive statistics, and exploratory factor analyses. The Cronbach's α value was estimated in a reliability analysis, and a simple regression analysis was conducted to verify the study hypothesis. Results: It was found that the students preferred pre-recorded lectures online for both practical training and theory, claiming that when compared with face-to-face lectures, these non-face-to-face lectures meant a shorter commute and the ability to repeat the content. However, it was admitted that technical issues such as facilities or access difficulties and lower concentration could be a problem. The hypothesis that course satisfaction affects lecture effectiveness was verified, with both the practical training and theory lectures found to have a statistically significant positive (+) effect. The explanatory power of student satisfaction on the effectiveness of the theory component was slightly higher than that of the practical training component, with the students having more positive perceptions on the necessity of face-to-face lectures in practical training than they did for those in theoretical instruction. Conclusion: Providing non-face-to-face online theory courses and face-to-face practical training courses could increase student satisfaction and lecture effectiveness.

A Study on the Operation Plans for Seongnam Public Library Programs in the Post-COVID-19 Era (포스트 코로나 시대 성남시 도서관의 문화프로그램 운영 방안 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to suggest operation plans for library programs in preparation for the post-COVID-19 by analyzing the current status of library programs before and after the outbreak of COVID-19 based on the data of the Seongnam public libraries on the Public Data Portal. So, based on 1,317 data collected through the data purification process for duplicates and errors in the files uploaded by Seongnam City, ①programs' subject & type, ②program target users, ③program operation types(online or offline), ④program operating time & number of days, ⑤characteristics of programs preferred by users etc. were analyzed. As results of the analysis, online programs were not operated at all before COVID-19, but online programs started to be operated in earnest after August 2020. Also, there were many experiential activity lectures for infants and elementary school students in 2019, but reading activity lectures for adults and elementary school students increased in 2020. There were many types of online lectures, such as real-time lectures using online video conferencing programs, YouTube video viewing & live broadcasting, and the use of Naver Band & Cafe.

Nutrition Knowledge, Attitude and Practice on Prevention of Childhood Obesity in Parents of Preschool Children in Chengdu, China

  • Parents play an important role in the development of their children's nutritional knowledge, attitude and practice (KAP). This study was conducted to investigate and assess the nutrition KAP status related to prevention of childhood obesity for parents of preschool children. 1828 subjects were selected cluster-randomly from 6 kindergartens in the urban of Chengdu, China and were surveyed by questionnaire. The results showed that the rate above $80\%$ of total score were $64.3\%(K),\;89.6\%(A),\;19.5\%(P)$ respectively. The nutrition KAP score of subjects was influenced by their education, gender and age. K, A and P scores were positively correlated with each other. The most expected approach obtained nutritional information for subjects was from newspaper, magazines, lectures and TV. It is concluded that the parents of preschool children in Chengdu indicated the limited nutrition knowledge, imperfect nutrition practice and better nutrition attitude. It is suggested that more nutritional education programs on childhood obesity prevention should be given mainly by newspapers, magazines and lectures in this population.

Factors related to satisfaction with non-face-to-face classes of health science students due to COVID-19 pandemic (COVID-19으로 인한 보건계열 대학생의 비대면 수업 만족도 관련 요인)

  • Objectives: To investigate the perceived quality of classes, academic emotions, and learning achievement levels associated with the non-face-to-face classes of health science students, and to analyze the factors related to class satisfaction. Methods: Using a questionnaire, 238 health science students were surveyed regarding the quality of classes, academic emotions, and learning achievement levels. Factors related to calss satisfaction were analyzed using stepwise multiple regression. Results: Lecture types that the students were most satisfied with were 'video lectures using PPT' and 'recorded lectures provided by LMS', while 'real-time video lectures' were scored the lowest (p=0.005). Factors affecting non-face-to-face class satisfaction were perceived achievement (β=0.425, p<0.001), learning content (β=0.265, p<0.001), learning emotion (β=0.171, p<0.001), and learning environment (β=0.137, p=0.012). The adjusted explanatory power for this model was 63.9%. Conclusions: To increase the satisfaction of health science students with non-face-to-face classes, it is necessary to prepare an institutional foundation and to develop an educational program that can increase perceived achievement.

Education Programs for Disaster Mental Health: Website-Based Review

  • Objectives: Although a manual for a disaster medical support using Korean medicine doctors for disaster survivors has been developed, education programs for using the manual in disaster situations need to be developed. Thus, the purpose of this study was to analyze existing online education programs for disaster mental health to develop education programs for Korean medicine doctors. Methods: We conducted website searching for disaster mental health education programs using Google. Compositions, contents, hours, methods, costs, organizers, and targets of included educational programs were analyzed qualitatively. Results: After searching, eight websites among a total of 64 were included for the analysis. Lectures consisted of Psychological First Aid, Skills for Psychological Recovery, Self-Care, and Psychological Education after a disaster experience. Training hours for each program ranged from 30 minutes to 31 hours. All lectures were given only online. They could only be taken online. Free lectures were the most common ones. Most of them were for the general public. Conclusions: Findings of this study provide information regarding trends of online education programs for disaster mental health. Our information could be used for developing disaster trauma response education programs for Korean medicine doctors in the future.

About the Lectures on Medical English at Oriental Medical Colleges in Korea (한의대 교과목으로서 의학영어에 대한 고찰)

  • A lot of medicine-related schools have courses for Medical English in their curricula these days. Medical English of Oriental Medical Colleges is somewhat different from that of other colleges, especially medical schools, in contents for the lecture. The lectures on Medical English of Oriental Medical Colleges need to include : Oriental medical terminology, Medical terminology, Materials about Oriental Medicine and Western Medicine, Writing about Oriental Medicine in English, Conversation with patients in English, Presentation on Oriental Medicine in English. It would be better that the study of Medical English should be placed in the second year of pre-medical course in Oriental Medical Colleges.
