  • The magnetic properties for $Fe_{24}Pt_{76}\;and\;Fe_{26}Pt_{74}$ have been investigated. The temperature vs. magnetic susceptibility curve for $Fe_{24}Pt_{76}$ had no peak near the Neel temperature. The magnetization proccess at 4.2 K showed only a linear variation up to the high magnetic field of 240 kOe. That for $Fe_{26}Pt_{74}$ at 77 K showed a metamagnetic transition at 100 kOe. These properties were discussed on the basis of a band picture.

  • $Mn_1-xCr_xPt_3$ alloy films have been prepared by depositing (Mn, Cr)/Pt multilayers using a rf magnetron sputterer followed by heat treatment. Small and wide angle x-ray diffractometry, magnetic hysteresis loops and Kerr rotation angle spectra of the films have been measured and used to investigate structural, magnetic and magneto-optic properties of the films. The films had a crystal structure of ordered AuCu$_3$ type and the strong preferred orientation of a (111)plane parallel to the film surface. The saturation magnetization of the films was decreased with Cr content reaching almost zero near x=0.58 and then increased for further increasement of Cr content up to x=0.77 over that stayed almost constant. This indicated that Cr atoms were antiferromagnetically coupled with Mn atoms. The magnetic easy axis of MnPt$_3$(x=0) film was parallel to the film surface but those of the films with x$\geq$0.58 increased as Cr content increased reaching about 4 kOe at x=1(CrPt$_3$). The dependence of the Kerr rotation angle on the Cr content was similar to that of the saturation magnetization on the Cr content. The films with x=0.77 and x=1 showed the larger Kerr rotation angle at the wavelengths of near infrared compared to the magneto-optic recording medium, TbFeCo, currently being used.

  • The effects of bath temperature on electrochemical behavior, alloy composition, crystallographic structure, morphology and the magnetic properties of electrodeposited Co-Pt-W(P) films were investigated. Electrochemical studies show that alloy electrodeposition has been shifted to more positive potentials and the critical time for nucleation decreased as electrolyte temperature increased. As the temperature increased from 40 oC to 80 oC, tungsten content in the deposit increased, while phosphorus content decreased. The films deposited at T = 40 oC exhibited soft magnetic properties. However, electrodeposited at T = 70 oC, the films exhibited hard magnetic properties. It is also demonstrated that higher temperature more than 70 oC could weaken hard magnetic properties. XRD results indicated that the deposits obtained at 50 oC-70 oC showed enhancement of [00.1] P.O. (preferred orientation) with the bath temperature, which resulted in the stronger perpendicular magnetic anisotropy.

  • A multiple alloy metal nano-dots memory using FN tunneling was investigated in order to confirm its structural possibility for future flash memory. In this work, a multiple FePt nano-dots device with a high work function (~5.2 eV) and extremely high dot density (${\sim}\;1.2{\times}10^{13}/cm^2$) was fabricated. Its structural effect for multiple layers was evaluated and compared to one with a single layer in terms of the cell characteristics and reliability. We confirm that MOS capacitor structures with 2-4 multiple FePt nano-dot layers provide a larger threshold voltage window and better retention characteristics. Furthermore, it was also revealed that several process parameters for block oxide and inter-tunnel oxide between the nano-dot layers are very important to improve the efficiency of electron injection into multiple nano-dots. From these results, it is expected that a multiple FePt nano-dots memory using Fowler-Nordheim (FN)-tunneling could be a candidate structure for future flash memory.

  • $Cr_{100-x}Ti_x$ amorphous texture-inducing layers (TIL) were investigated to realize highly (002) oriented $L1_0$ FePt-C granular films through hetero-epitaxial growth on the (002) textured bcc-$Cr_{80}Mn_{20}$ seed layer (bcc-SL). As-deposited TILs showed the amorphous phase in Ti content of $30{\leq}x(at%){\leq}75$. Particularly, films with $40{\leq}x{\leq}60$ kept the amorphous phase against the heat treatment over $600^{\circ}C$. It was found that preference of the crystallographic texture for bcc-SLs is directly affected by the structural phase of TILs. (002) crystallographic texture was realized in bcc-SLs deposited on the amorphous TILs ($40{\leq}x{\leq}70$), whereas (110) texture was formed in bcc-SLs overlying on crystalline TILs (x < 30 and x > 70). Correlation between the angular distribution of (002) crystal orientation of bcc-SL evaluated by full width at half maximum of (002) diffraction (FWHM) and a grain diameter of bcc-SL indicated that while the development of the lateral growth for bcc-SL grain reduces FWHM, crystallization of amorphous TILs hinders FWHM. $L1_0$ FePt-C granular films were fabricated under the substrate heating process over $600^{\circ}C$ with having different FWHM of bcc-SL. Hysteresis loops showed that squareness ($M_r/M_s$) of the films increased from 0.87 to 0.95 when FWHM of bcc-SL decreased from $13.7^{\circ}$ to $3.8^{\circ}$. It is suggested that the reduction of (002) FWHM affects to the overlying MgO film as well as FePt-C granular film by means of the hetero-epitaxial growth.

  • CoCrPt alloy films are one of the most promising candidates for high-density perpendicular magnetic recording media due to their strong perpendicular magnetic anisotropy (PMA) and high coercivity [1]. In order to achieve high-density magnetic recording media, it is essential to characterize the magnetoelastic properties since experimental and theoretical research has revealed a significant magnetoelastic contribution to the magnetic properties in magnetic thin films. • In this research, we investigate electrical performance and electrochemical properties of graphene supported Pt (Pt/G) and PtM (M = Ni and Y) alloy catalysts (PtM/Gs) that are synthesized by modified polyol method. With the PtM/Gs that are adopted for oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) as cathode of proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs), their catalytic activity and ORR performance and electrical performance are estimated and compared with one another. Their particle size, particle distribution and electrochemically active surface (EAS) area are measured by TEM and cyclic voltammetry (CV), respectively. On the other hand, regarding ORR activity and electrical performance of the catalysts, (i) linear sweeping voltammetry by rotating disk electrode and rotating ring-disk electrode and (ii) PEMFC single cell tests are used. The TEM and CV measurements demonstrate particle size and EAS of PtM/Gs are compatible with those of Pt/G. In case of PtNi/G, its half-wave potential, kinetic current density, transferred electron number per oxygen molecule and $H_2O_2$ production % are excellent. Based on data obtained by half-cell test, when PEMFC singlecell tests are carried out, current density measured at 0.6V and maximum power density of the PEMFC single cell employing PtNi/G are better than those employing Pt/G. Conclusively, PtNi/Gs synthesized by modified polyol shows better ORR catalytic activity and PEMFC performance than other catalysts.

  • Platinum is a well known element which shows a significant electrocatalytic activity in many important applications. In glucose sensor, because of the poisoning effect of reaction intermediates and the low surface area, the electrocatalytic activity towards the glucose oxidation is low which cause the low sensitivity. So, we fabricate a nanoporous PtZn alloy electrode by deposition-dissolution method. It provides a high active surface and a large enzyme encapsulating space per unit area when it used for an enzymatic glucose sensor. Glucose oxidase was immobilized on the electrode surface by capping with PEDOT composite and PPDA. The composite and PPDA also can exclude the interference ion such as ascorbic acid and uric acid to improve the selectivity. The surface area was determined by cyclic voltametry method and the surface structure and the element were analyzed by Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) and Energy Dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), respectively. The sensitivity is $13.5{\mu}A/mM\;cm^2$. It is a remarkable value with such simply prepared senor has high selectivity.
