The purpose of this study was to determine whether the retention of university freshmen could be predicted using their peer relationships in a specific department. In this study, retention was defined as a student staying enrolled in their university for a certain period of time. Social relationships are formed through interaction between people, so both students' self-perceptions and others' perceptions of them must be accounted for, so we used a social network analysis that did so. We examined social networks visualizations that allowed for a rich interpretation of numerical information. Participants in this study were freshmen who enrolled in an undergraduate program in 2017, 2018, or 2019. We used the name generator method to determine how quantitative friendship network variables predicted the academic retention up to the first semester of 2020. Cox proportional hazard model analysis showed that the weighted indegree centrality with intimacy positively predicted retention. The results of this study can be used to identify and conduct interventions for students who may be likely to disenroll. However all of the students did not participate in the department, it was difficult to examine their entire peer networks. Thus, this study's results cannot be generalized because the participants are students of a specific major, so further research is needed to produce more generalizable results.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the effects of clinical competence and field adaptation on new nurses' retention intention and to suggest strategies to improve their intention to stay. Methods: This study used a descriptive correlational design and was conducted from June 1 to July 20, 2023. A structured questionnaire was used, targeting new nurses with only 3 to 12 months of clinical experience. Data was collected through an online site used by nurses. The collected data were analyzed by frequency and percentage, independent t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficients, and multiple linear regression. All analyses were conducted using IBM SPSS Statistics 26.0. Results: A total of 173 new nurses participated in this study. The results of multiple linear regression analysis showed that the factors influencing retention intention of new nurses were field adaptation (β=.38, p<.001), professional pride as a reason for retention (β=.24, p=.003), and current salary of 2.5 to 3.0 million won (β=-.14, p=.049). Conclusion: Hospitals and nursing education organizations need educational approaches that enhance the field adaptation and professional pride of new nurses so that they can be successfully retained in the workplace.
Objective: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of malocclusion or orthodontic treatment on oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) in adults. Methods: The sample consisted of 860 adults (378 men and 482 women, aged 18-39 years) who were clinically evaluated for malocclusion or orthodontic treatment experience. Participants were divided into 4 groups as follows: normal occlusion, malocclusion, fixed treatment, and retention. OHRQoL was assessed with the short form of the Oral Health Impact Profile (OHIP-14) and Psychosocial Impact of Dental Aesthetics Questionnaire (PIDAQ). Results: The malocclusion group and the fixed treatment group had significantly higher OHIP-14 scores than the normal occlusion group and the retention group (p < 0.001). The malocclusion group had the highest PIDAQ score, while the normal occlusion group and the retention group had the lowest PIDAQ score (p < 0.001). Women had higher OHIP-14 and PIDAQ scores than men. A significant positive correlation was found between OHIP-14 and PIDAQ scores (p < 0.01). Conclusions: Malocclusion has a negative impact on OHRQoL, but this could be improved in adults through orthodontic treatment. These OHRQoL questionnaires can provide additional useful information on specific aspects of orthodontic patients' psychological state.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to construct and test a structural equation model on nursing work outcomes based on Youssef and Luthans' positive psychological capital and integrated conceptual framework of work performance. Methods: This study used a structured questionnaire administered to 340 nurses. Data were analyzed using structural equation modeling. Results: Positive psychological capital showed indirect and direct effects on job satisfaction, retention intention, organizational citizenship behavior, and nursing performance. While, the nursing work environment had direct and indirect effects on job satisfaction and nursing performance, it only had indirect effects on intention to work and organizational citizenship behavior. Additionally, a mediating effect on retention intention and organizational citizenship behavior was found between job satisfaction and nursing performance variables. Conclusion: The nursing organization needs to build a supportive work environment and reinforce positive psychological capital to improve nursing performance. Additionally, it needs to actively manage the necessary parameters involved in the stages of job satisfaction, retention intention, nursing performance, and organizational citizenship behavior of nurses. The findings propose the continuous management of nursing personnel based on nurses' attitude outcome, behavioral intention, behavioral outcome, and stage of role performance.
We examined the effect of delayed and immediate rewards on short- and long-term memory performance depending on the level of stress. It has been demonstrated that delaying feedback during memory tasks could lead to better retention than presenting it immediately (a.k.a., feedback delay benefit or delay-retention effect). In this study, we manipulated stress level(high-stress or low-stress), reward-timing(delayed or immediate reward), reward-existence(500 or 0 won) and retrieval-timing(delayed or immediate memory test). On the high-stress learning condition, one week later, the number of correct answers with delayed-rewards were significantly more than that of delayed-no-rewards but there was not any difference between immediate-rewards and immediate-no-rewards. On the other hand, in the high-stressful immediate memory test, immediate-rewards only had a positive effect on memory performance. The results indicated that delayed rewards improved long-term memory performance by promoting memory consolidation and the sensitivity to rewards was higher under the high-stress condition.

The aim of this study was to examine the memory and attention enhancement effect of YMG-1 and YMG-2, which are modified herbal extracts from Yukmijihwang-tang (YMJ). YMJ, composing six herbal medicine, has been used for restoring the normal functions of the body to consolidate the constitution, nourishing and invigorating the kidney functions for hundreds years in Asian countries. A series of studies reported that YMJ and its components enhance memory retention, protects neuronal cell from reactive oxygen attack and boost immune activities. Recently the microarray analysis suggested that YMG-1 protects neurodegeneration through modulating various neuron specific genes. A total of 55 subjects were divided into three groups according to the treatment of YMG-1 (n=20), YMG-2 (n=20) and control (C; n=15) groups. Before treatments, all of subjects were subjected to the assessments on neuropsychological tests of K-WAIS test, Rey-Kim memory test, and psychophysiological test of Event-Related Potential (ERP) during auditory oddball task and repeated word recognition task. They were repeatedly assessed with the same methods after drug treatment for 6 weeks. Although no significant effect of drug was found in Rey-Kim memory test, a significant interaction (P = .010, P < 0.05) between YMG-2 and C groups was identified in the scores digit span and block design, which are the subscales of K-WAIS. The very similar but marginal interaction (P = .064) between YMG-1 and C groups was found too. In ERP analysis, only YMG-1 group showed decreasing tendency of P300 latency during oddball task while the others tended to increase, and it caused significant interaction between session and group (p= .004). This result implies the enhancement of cognitive function in due to consideration of relationship between P300 latency and the speed of information processing. However, no evidence which could demonstrate the significant drug effect was found in neither amplitude or latency. These results come together suggest that YMG-1, 2 may enhance the attention, resulting in enhancement of memory processing. For elucidating detailed mechanism of YMG on learning and memory, the further studies are necessary.
Differences in reaction time and accuracy were compared among driver groups of middle-, old-, and stroke old-age drivers using various reaction time tasks including simple reaction task, 2-choice task, 4-choice task with different stimuli eccentricity, search task, and moving target detection task. The results can be summarized as followings. First, although overall reaction time tended to be slowed with age and stroke, stroke old drivers showed significantly slower reaction time than the other driver groups when the stimuli were presented in a large eccentricity. Second, differences in reaction time for 2-choice task and moving target detection task seemed to be determined mainly by participants' simple reaction time. Third, the search task which required temporary retention of previously presented stimuli was found to be more sensitive in discriminating difference in reaction time between middle-age drivers and old-age drivers (including stroke old drivers). Fourth, reaction accuracy of old (and stroke old) drivers decreased when more stimuli alternatives were presented and temporary retention for stimuli was required. Altogether, memory demand in reaction time task can be sensitive to evaluate performance for different age groups, whereas size of useful field of view for brain stroke.

The effects of Hyungbangjiwhangrang on the enhancement of learning and memory of AD model rats were studied with Morris water maze and radial arm maze. Sample group was electrolytically lesioned on nbM, and then daily treated with the medicine for two months. Control group with nbM lesion, and sham group with the sham operation were treated the vehicle for same duration. The following results were observed.1. As the learning trials of Morris water maze processed repeatedly, sham group achiened 201.64${\pm}$33.13 seconds in 1st trial, 153.14${\pm}$61.80 seconds in 2nd, 106.21${\pm}$46.81 seconds in 3rd, 76.64${\pm}$48.40 seconds in 4th, and 52.29${\pm}$38.25 seconds in 5th. The control group achieved 224.08${\pm}$29.16 in 1st trial, 191.77${\pm}$67.97 seconds in 2nd, 177.77${\pm}$65.44 seconds in 3rd, 140.92${\pm}$68.27 seconds in 4th, and 126.46${\pm}$79.15 seconds in 5th. The sample group achieved 223.36${\pm}$23.33 seconds in 1st trial, 215.86${\pm}$38.93 seconds in 2nd, 190.79${\pm}$51.57 seconds in 3rd, 155.79${\pm}$62.67 seconds in 4th, and 127.93${\pm}$62.11 seconds in 5th. Therefore, these data shows that all three groups were improved in learning capacity as trials were repeated, but the shame group showed prominent improvement in learning compared with the control group(p<0.05).2. In memory retention test of Morris water maze that counts the staying time in the target area, sham group stayed for 15.36${\pm}$5.39 seconds, the control group stayed for 5.54${\pm}$5.64 seconds, and the sample group stayed for 7.43${\pm}$6.09 seconds. The analysis of the memory retention data shows that the sham group marked more significant improvement stati- stically in memory retention compared with the control group(p<0.05).3. In the learning of radial arm maze, the number and rate of animals that arrive the learning criteria amounted 12 out of 14, 85.7% in sham group, 4 out of 13, 30.8% in the control group, and 10 out of 14, 71.4% in the sample group So, the sample group shows better learning capacity significantly compared with the control group(p<0.05). With the experimental results above, Hyungbangjiwhangtang can be supposed to have the improving effects on the learning and memory of AD rats induced by eletronical injury of nbM.

Result: This study synthesizes prior studies and identifies four critical links between the development of jobs and protean career attitudes. To begin with, task crafting, which entails job requirements and scope modifications, leads to protean career attitudes as employees match their roles to their skills and passions. Second, rational crafting, which is adjusting interactions with coworkers and superiors encourages flexible career attitudes. Conclusion - This study insists that organizations must consider the essential practical ramifications. Employers may improve employee growth, engagement, and talent retention by encouraging job customization, recognizing protean workers, cultivating a protean culture, investing in ongoing learning.
