Logic lays the foundation of Mathematics and the development of Mathematics is dependent on critical thinking. So it is important that school mathematics helps students develop their logical and critical thinking ability for both mathematics learning and problem solving in general. MINDSTORMS, a LEGO based programming activity kit, is an effective teaching and learning tool that can be used to enhance logical and critical thinking in students. This study focused on measuring the growth of students' ability to think logically and critically when they used MINDSTORMS activities to learn programming. In addition, we investigated how the students' logical and critical thinking changed from the MINDSTORMS learning experience. The study confirmed that the programming activities using MINDSTORMS help to enhance logical and critical thinking in students. The students attitude about logical and critical thinking became more positive and the activities helped to engage students to think logically and critically. This type of programming activities should be valuable in mathematics education and it should be included in a general mathematics curriculum.
The architectural engineering is regarded as the non-IT related field. But as growing the domain of IT industry, the students who major in the architectural engineering have to keep the programming ability to deal with the architectural engineering problems. In this paper, It will be discussed the development of the application program for architectural engineering problems by using the programming skill, and how can it enhance the non-IT related field's students to solve the problems.

As part of recent SW education methods, entry sites have been used in all practical textbooks in elementary schools. However, they are all learning block-type programming languages, making it difficult to produce programs that can be used in everyday life. This study is a study on the effects of learning programming using entry python on logical thinking ability and programming interest in elementary school students. Logical thinking ability and programming interest tests were conducted before and after the 8th class. Before and after classes, logical thinking ability score rose from an average of 6.6 to 9.4 and programming interests score also rose from an average of 46.7 to 59.1. This results in programming learning using Entry Python is significant for enhancing the logical thinking ability and programming interest of elementary school students.

The demand for learning programming anywhere at a low cost at any time is increasing. Accordingly, there have been a great number of web-based programming courses. Generally, teaching Web-based programming classes is very challenging. Thus effective methods for teaching these courses should be researched. Based on several years of experiences in teaching a Web-based programming course as well as the related literature, this paper presents its effective teaching strategies. First, some design strategies of its course contents for developing programming skills are proposed, considering the characteristics of programming courses as well as potential learners. Next, its effective assessment and class management strategies are proposed. Finally, we evaluate the results of student grades and operation of a Web-based programming course offered most recently using proposed strategies. They demonstrate that we can enhance learning effects of the course.

Recently, knowledge management has been required in companies as a tool of competitiveness. Companies have constructed Enterprise Resource Planning(ERP) system in order to manage huge knowledge. But, it is not easy to formalize knowledge in organization. We focused on data mining system by genetic programming(GP). Data mining system by genetic programming can be useful tools to derive and extract the necessary information and knowledge from the huge accumulated data. However when we don't have enough amounts of data to perform the learning process of genetic programming, we have to reduce input parameter(s) or increase number of learning or training data. In this study, an enhanced data mining method combining Genetic Programming with Self organizing map, that reduces the number of input parameters, is suggested. Experiment results through a prototype implementation are also discussed.

It's known by recent surveys that many students have difficulty in understanding the concepts of programming algorithms, and don't feel interested in learning them. Dynamic programming, one of the most important and widely-used algorithms in computer science, is especially feared by students and unlike other algorithms, it also requires understanding of the process of problem solving and storage space design as well as basic principles of the algorithm. And so it has not been properly covered in classes. In this paper, we developed a visual simulator to solve the above problems in learning dynamic programming. This learning simulator is designed for students to run the algorithms themselves and learn how it works by visualizing each step of dynamic programming and corresponding states of storage space.

Educational robots have various potentialities to support programming learners because it is interesting enough to improve the learners' participation and motivation. Nonetheless, some researches assert that the use of educational robot does not necessarily lead to effective and successful learning. With respect to these serious problems, the researchers are emphasizing that it is needed to overcome the probable 'Novelty Effect' by means of considering specific features of the robot programming environment and the participants. We analyzed and found some features of robot programming teaching and learning environment and professional high school students through reviewing of the literatures, and then conducted delphi research to abstract motivational strategies and to develop their applying methods with the specific features. We developed a robot programming teaching and learning model for stimulating and maintaining professional high school student's motivation, which includes 5 factors and 21 strategies.

Traditional programming education lacked consideration of contents, methods and learners. In particular, the importance of programming education has been decreased in school because almost no suitable teaching has been executed for elementary school students. To solve these problems, this study proposed the use of MINDSTORMS that is a programming education tool suitable for elementary school students, and verified its effects on learners' creativity. The results of this study show that the tool is highly effective in improving students' creativity. The objectives of programming education are not only learning programming languages but also improving problem-solving ability, logical thinking and creativity. We must offer environment, in which students can control their own learning activity and solve problems by themselves. In addition, MINDSTORMS can be a very useful and suitable tool for programming education.

Information and knowledge society in the 21st century computer education is very important. Computer programming education in computer education is very important. There are very few teaching and learning model of computer programming education. In this paper, we develop a self-regulated learning model for students to be self-regulated learning. In this study, we propose self-regulated learning elements, a self-regulated learning steps and self-regulated learning modele. Self-regulated learning elements are task level, generalized level, and efficiency level. Self-regulated learning phases are problem understanding, design, and coding, testing, and maintenance. Self-regulated learning models are to copy, to modify, create, and to challenge. The results of this study are as follows. At Correlations between learning elements and achievement, generalized level, and efficiency level are higher than the task level. At Correlations between learning and achievement, Understanding and design stages are higher than the other stages. At Correlations between learning model and achievement, to transform, to create, and to challenge are higher than to copy.
