Usability Analysis of Algorithm Visualization Tool for Learning Basic Algorithms (기초 알고리즘 학습을 위한 알고리즘 시각화 시스템의 효용성 분석)

  • The curriculum of programming education including algorithm has been recognized as a very important subject to many students majoring in natural sciences and engineering including electronic engineering and computer related departments. This study analyzed usability of the learning system of programming languages using basic algorithms so as for students to easily learn basic algorithm among the entire programming curriculum. The results show that the grade of learning achievement of experimental group using the learning system is 15 points higher than that of non-experimental group and the grade of interest, concentration, effectiveness, understanding, convenience, suitability, and attending a lecture in the next semester are 4 points or more of 5 points criterion.

  • In a variety of fields, highly developed technology is being combined to create a lot of value. In order to keep up with this global trend, the Ministry of Education, which is in charge of national education, continuously develops and applies content for creative education to textbooks. The continuous development of content for creative education is not only related to national interests, but also to the continued development of mankind. Today, the succession and development of human knowledge is in charge of the education system. Research into an effective educational system is necessary for effective succession of rapidly developing science and technology and building up technical personnel with such skills. In particular, the computer science field is faster in development than other scientific fields and has accumulated many technologies, indicating that it takes a lot of time and good teaching to foster talent that can effectively utilize the technology. In this paper, elementary school subjects were analyzed to achieve the purpose of cultivating talent in the field of computer science. In addition, we have investigated techniques related to computer programming learning not covered in elementary school subjects. So we developed content that students need to practice. Next, we taught the content to randomly selected elementary school students and assessed their educational effectiveness. As a result of training using the content we developed, 55.37% increased academic performance.

The Evaluation of Class Design for the Computing Thinking Using Entry and Sensor Board (엔트리와 센서보드를 이용한 컴퓨팅 사고력에 대한 수업 설계 평가)

  • Through the 2015 Revised Curriculum, programming education is introduced into the elementary school regular curriculum as part of the software education. Effective teaching & learning methods can be presented through an analysis of the effects of programming education on the problem-solving abilities. In this paper, students were divided into two groups according to their academic achievement, a learning program was developed for five times of implementation using the entry and the sensor board for the entry, and classes to which it was applied were conducted. Before and after the classes, a problem-solving test tool was used to measure and analyze the changes in Gamma waves and EEG concentration indicators. As a result, the gamma waves and the concentration indices of the students in the group with high academic achievement showed a tendency to be improved through the programming lessons, and those of the students in the group with poor academic achievement showed no such tendency. Through this, the necessity of the level-specific programming education in consideration of students' academic abilities was suggested.

  • Informatics curriculum has been revised for informatics principles and concepts to effectively teach. According to the revised curriculum, researches are verifying the educational effects of algorithmic thinking and problem-solving abilities using programming language by applying it to various area. However, researches in programming education considering the level of student are yet incomplete. This research has analyzed the impact of the perceived level of problem solving on the performance of project completeness. As results of difference of project completeness, a high perceived level of problem solving group's performance of project completeness was higher than a low perceived level of problem solving group's one. Analysis of the impact of the perceived level of problem solving on the performance of project completeness, 'problem finding' factor had a significant impact.   • Block programming environment, which is represented by Scratch in elementary and middle school programming education, is suitable for learner's characteristics and cognitive level, and is recommended not only for beginners. Transference to the text programming environment after the block programming is essential for understanding the data processing process, understanding the accuracy and efficiency aspects of algorithms, and creating SW activity. In addition, it is presented step by step in the programming curriculum. In this study, developed WithBlock the online evaluation system for the purpose of transference from a block programming to a text programming environment. The developed system can solve the same algorithm problem in both block and text programming environment, and it can be used for elementary and secondary programming education by automatically scoring the written code and providing immediate feedback. In order to applicable to programming education in elementary and secondary surveyed the usability, learning possibility, interest and satisfaction of WithBlock. The results of the survey showed that it can be used for programming education.

  • Computer based industry is activated and IT education for student has developed quickly. Variety of related IT education has performed. Especially interest of Gifted of Information Science is increased, and programming education for Gifted of Information Science is carrying out in Office of Education and college. But most student are tired of learning tedious algorithm, language centered programming, and test focused learning. In this paper we offer opportunity to learn programming for students through implementing programming curriculum using Visual Basic more easily learning than other programming language, actually apply it in their homepage. and prepare ground of programming.

  • Recently, programming education is being actively performed in education field with development of educational programming language and teaching and learning methods for elementary students. However, programming education have limit to apply to the overall computer science curriculum, because it is performed by more than 5th grade and focused on the utilization of programming tools than problem-solving process. It is necessary to expand the range of students and educational content considered with problem-solving process for encouraging programming education in computer science. In this study, we suggest the easy-to-use programming tool for lower grade(1st grade) and robot programming task based on improvement of student's thinking ability. We use Tangible User Interface(TUI) for elementary student's(1st grade) convenience of programming and developed the robot programming task for improvement of logical thinking. As a result of this experiment, tangible programming tool can be used easily in elementary students(1st grade) and developed robot programming task is effective in improvement of logical thinking.

  • The research of the object-oriented visual programming education is related to investigate the instructional method for computer programming, the process for program development for students, and the suitability analysis and design methodology for program development. In order to develop the educational methodology for the students who have the difficulties to study the computer programming and to enhance the abilities for the development of object-oriented programs, in this paper, we suggest the evaluation metrics to apply and assess for the object-oriented programming education. Also, we introduce the visual programming education methodology and curriculum using Alice programming. The evaluation metrics for the visual programming education suggested in this paper, is accepted when the visual programming languages/tools are used in the programming education to assess and analyze the suitabilities for the programming education for students, so to utilize the analyses for abilities of understanding, abstraction, and program implementation by level.

The Analysis on Utilization Trend of the Technology in Secondary Mathematics Textbooks Based on the $6^{th}$, $7^{th}$ and 2007 Revised Curriculum in Korea (교육과정에 따른 중등 수학과 교과서에서 공학 도구 활용의 변화 분석)

  • In this paper, we analyzed the utilization trend of technology in the secondary mathematics textbooks based on the 6th, 7th and 2007 revised mathematics curriculums in Korea. We analyzed 30, 60 and 90 mathematics books based on the 6th, 7th and 2007 revised mathematics curriculums respectively. The analysis focused on three aspects of using technology, i.e., contents areas in which technology used, technological tools and programs used, and methods of using technology in teaching and learning mathematics. The results shows that the frequency of using technology in mathematics books has been increased as mathematics curriculum has been revised. In the mathematics books based on th 6th curriculum, only 25 scenes were found, but in 7th and 2007 revised curriculum 248 and 355 scenes were found. In the 6th curriculum, calculators and graphing calculators were used mainly, but in the 7th and 2007 revised curriculum many kinds of technological tools and softwares were used including CAS, dynamic geometry software, spreadsheets, programming language, and the Internet. Especially the internet was used frequently in the 7th curriculum. And the methods of using technology has been diversified as time passed. In the 6th curriculum, the technology mainly used for introducing technology and simple calculation, but in the 7th and 2007 revised curriculum the technologies and software were also used for understanding mathematical laws, principles and concepts and students-centered exploring the mathematical properties.

  • The computer programming education is very important to study the related subjects in computer science, and also in the technology education for the students finding employment. In this paper, we develop the assessment metrics to evaluate and apply the textual and visual programming in the computer education. Also, we analyze the validity for the programming languages and tools for the education and getting job of students, and choose the appropriate programming language/tool for programming education. And, we develop the curriculum for programming education, finally apply and analyze in computer education of university. Especially, we compare and analyze the effectiveness for the text based programming language(JAVA) and visual programming language/environment(LabVIEW) in the area of embedded/mobile/Web programming fields which are necessary in the related industry to the recent trend of IT technology.
