Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the impacts of professional socialization perceived by nursing students on role conflict and professional self-concept. Methods: Using a structured questionnaire, data were collected from 683 nursing students. For data analysis, descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation coefficient, stepwise multiple regression were conducted using SAS program. Results: The mean score of total professional socialization was 3.74 followed by the scores of 'independence', 3.98, 'commitment', 3.80, 'decision making', 3.60, and 'maturity', 3.53. The mean score of total role conflict was 3.72, and professional self-concept was 2.75. Total professional socialization, commitment, and independence perceived by nursing students were positively related to role conflict. Also total professional socialization and total subcategories of professional socialization were positively related to professional self-concept. As a result of stepwise multiple regression analysis, the key determinants of role conflict were found to be 'independence', 'motivation with admission', 'sex', 'desire with working', 'grade' and 'decision making'. The key determinants of professional self-concept were 'decision making', 'commitment', 'satisfaction about nursing', and 'interpersonal relationship'. Conclusion: Through this results, it is necessary to improve professional socialization in order to increase professional self-concept among nursing students.

The aim of this descriptive correlation research was determine the factors affecting the professional self-concept of nurses working at rehabilitation hospitals. The data were collected from 192 nurses working at three rehabilitation hospitals with less than 300 beds in B City and at two in D City from May 1 to 30, 2015, and then analyzed using the SPSS Win 18.0 program. They scored 3.03 for professional autonomy, 3.43 for self-efficacy, and 3.25 for professional self-concept on average; professional autonomy was positively correlated with the professional self-concept and self-efficacy was strongly positively correlated with the professional self-concept. The professional self-concept generally accounted for 46.9% and the self-efficacy had the greatest impact on the professional self-concept, accounting for 33%. Based on these results, it is necessary to help rehabilitation hospital nurses improve their self-efficacy and develop standardized professional education programs to give them pride and dignity.
Purpose: This study aimed to examine the degree of paramedics' professional self-concept, empowerment, and burnout and to verify the effects of empowerment and burnout on their professional self-concept. Method: The study subjects were 116 in-hospital paramedics who completed a structured questionnaire. Data were collected between June 18 and 25, 2013. Results: The results were as follows. First, the paramedics' mean score for professional self-concept was 2.93 (range: 1-4), and the mean scores for empowerment and burnout were 2.87 (range: 1-4) and 2.48 (range: 1-5). Second, in terms of the general characteristics of the paramedics, professional self-concept showed significant differences based on sex, religion, work experience, and medical institution classification. Third, professional self-concept had a positive correlation with empowerment, and professional self-concept and empowerment had negative correlations with burnout. Fourth, the main variables affecting paramedics' professional self-concept were gender and total years of work experience. Conclusion: It is necessary to develop program to reduce paramedics' burnout and qualitatively improve paramedic services.

Purpose: This study was performed to investigate the perceived relationship among professional self-concept, head nurse's leadership, and nursing clinical competency by clinical nurses. Methods: This study was a cross-sectional survey. Participants were 601 nurses working at the five general hospitals in four provincial cities, Gyeungbuk, Korea. Data were collected from July 14, 2010 to August 31 and analyzed by SPSS/PC ver 18.0 programs. Results: Professional self-concept and head nurse's leadership were slightly above the middle average, but nursing clinical competency was good. According to participants' age, marital status, job satisfaction, and length of service, there were perceptional differences in professional self-concept, head nurse's leadership, and nursing clinical competency. Nursing clinical competency could be explained by head nurse's leadership, professional self-concept, job satisfaction and length of service. Head nurse's leadership was independent variable affecting nursing clinical competency, professional self-concept was partial mediating variable, and job satisfaction and length of service were extraneous variables. Conclusion: It is concluded that head nurse's leadership is more important than professional self-concept to improve nursing clinical competency. Nursing managers should plan various strategies to improve head nurse's leadership and professional self-concept, to increase clinical nurses' job satisfaction and length of service.
The purpose of this study was to identify the relationships among critical thinking disposition, professional self-concept and clinical competence in nursing students. The participants were 291 nursing students in Gwangju Province. A questionnaire survey was conducted from March 02 to 16, 2013. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Scheffe test, pearson's correlation coefficients, and stepwise multiple regression analysis with SPSS/WIN 20.0 version. There was a significant positive correlations among critical thinking disposition, professional self-concept, and clinical competence. The variable predicting clinical competency were professional self-concept and critical thinking disposition. These factors accounted for 44.1% of the variance. The findings of this study suggest that the most influential factor for clinical competence was professional self-concept. Therefore it is necessary to improve professional self-concept through effective education program.

Purpose: This study was done in order to identify nursing students' professional self-concept, self-leadership and clinical competence and to analyze the correlation among the variables and the factors influencing clinical competence. Methods: The research participants were 294 senior nursing students in the nursing departments of 3 universities located in Jeollabuk-do. The students had completed 3 semesters of clinical practice. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficient, and Multiple Regression. Results: Participants' scores for professional self-concept, self-leadership, clinical competence were $2.78{\pm}0.36$, $3.63{\pm}0.47$, $3.80{\pm}0.40$ respectively. Professional self-concept, self-leadership and clinical competence had positive correlations. Factors influencing nursing students' clinical competence included professional self-concepts in professional practice, self-expectations in self-leadership, constructive thinking, self-compensation and self-criticism in that order, and these variables explained 48%of the variance in clinical competence. Conclusion: Based on these results, it is important to develop and apply educational programs to increase professional self-concept and self-leadership in order to improve nursing students' clinical competence.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between nursing students' metacognition, professional self-concept, and self-leadership and to identify the factors affecting nursing students' self-leadership. Methods: Data were collected from 195 nursing students in the first, second, and third years of nursing college located in J province, and a survey was conducted from November 13, 2023 to November 24, 2023. The collected data were analyzed through descriptive statistics, t-test, one-way ANOVA, Scheffe test, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and stepwise multiple regression analysis using SPSS/WIN 29.0 program. Result: Metacognition of the subjects showed a significant positive correlation with professional self-concept (r=.68 p<.001) and self-leadership (r=.79, p<.001), and professional self-concept showed a significant positive correlation with self-leadership(r=.67, p<.001). The major factors influencing self-leadership of nursing students were metacognition, professional self-concept, self-satisfaction, and perceived leadership level in order, and their explanatory power was 67%(F=79.92, p<.001). Conclusion: Based on the results of this study, it is necessary to develop an education program that improves metacognition and professional self-concept in order to strengthen the self-leadership of nursing students, and efforts should be made to introduce and manage it in the nursing curriculum.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between professional self-concept, nursing performance and retention intention of emergency department (ER) nurse. Methods: Data were collected from a convenience sample of 200 ER nurses who worked in one of 9 hospitals in 2cities. The instrument for this study was a structured questionnaire on professional self-concept, nursing performance and retention intention. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficient, and multiple regression. Results: The mean score for professional self-concept was 2.52 (0.27), for nursing performance was 2.70(0.31), and for retention intention, 4.87 (1.48). There were significant differences on three variables length of ER career, average income, and satisfaction with nursing. There was a significant positive correlation between professional self-concept and nursing performance, and retention intention. Professional self-concept was the most significant predictor variable. Conclusion: The results suggest that the improvement of ER nurses' professional self-concept will improve their nursing performance and retention intention. Therefore, it is necessary to develop strategies which strengthens professional self-concept in order to improve ER nurses' performance and retention intention.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between professional self-concept, self-efficacy and job satisfaction of clinical nurse in schoolwork. Method: Data was collected from convenient sample of 407 nurses in 3 cities. The questionnaire measured the level of professional self-concept, self-efficacy and job satisfaction of clinical nurse in schoolwork. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, and Pearson's correlation coefficient, partial correlation. Result: The mean score of professional self-concept was 2.83(${\pm}.34$) self-efficacy was 3.64(${\pm}.31$), job satisfaction was 3.12(${\pm}.38$). There were significant differences on three variables according to age, a clinical career, level of education. There was a significant positive correlation between professional self-concept and self-efficacy, job satisfaction. The self-efficacy was a significant positive correlation with job satisfaction. Conclusions: From the studies reviewed, it can expect the positive effect to improve the self-efficacy, professional self-concept and job satisfaction when the nurses who have continuous education and organizational support. These findings would be important resource to nurse administrators for clinical implication.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the need for advanced practice nurse and explain the relationship between self-efficacy and professional self-concept among Korean nurses. Method: The participants were 511 Korean nurses who were recruited in hospitals or public health centers in Korea. The instruments used in this study were Sherer et al's self-efficacy instrument, Arthur's professional self-concept instrument, and a structured questionnaire on the need for advanced nurse practitioners. Cronbach alpha, mean, SD, $X^2$, t-tests, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficient were used to analyze the data using SPSS PC+ ver 12.0 for Windows. Results: Of the nurses, 57.9% of wanted to be advanced practice nurses. The mean of professional self-concept and self-efficacy scores for the nurses were at the medium level. Professional self-concept and self-efficacy of nurses showed significant differences according to age, working location, marital status, level of education, and length of clinical experience. A significant positive correlation was found between professional self-concept and self-efficacy. Conclusion: Before planning to develop the role of Advanced practice nurse, there is a need to measure self-efficacy and professional self-concept among nurses. Politically, strategies to increase self-efficacy and professional self-concept among Korean nurses will be necessary in order to prepare good advanced practice nurse.
