  • A physician's empathy plays a crucial role in patient-centered care, and in modern medicine, patients, their caregivers, and society demand a high level of empathy from healthcare providers. The conceptualization of clinical empathy, which has emphasized cognitive empathy since the mid-20th century, has been widely accepted in medical schools and the healthcare industry without much critical ref lection. This study provides an overview of the ongoing debates on empathy versus sympathy and cognitive empathy versus affective empathy to clarify the concept of empathy. Based on recent research findings, clinical empathy is proposed to encompass three components: cognitive empathy, affective empathy, and empathic motivation. It is suggested that fully demonstrating these components requires empathic communication skills. Additionally, the cognitive characteristics of medical students and the features of the academic environment demonstrate the need for education to strengthen their empathy skills. Considering this, proposed intervention methods that medical schools can consider include utilizing tutoring programs and debriefing processes for team activities, which can facilitate problem-solving as a coping strategy for stress. Learning communities can create an environment where students can receive social support and recover from stress. Medical schools can contribute to the development of students' professional identities as practicing clinicians who embody empathy and respect by cultivating professors as positive role models. Additionally, utilizing scales to assess the empathic nature of doctor-patient communication or incorporating patients and caregivers as evaluators can actively improve empathic communication skills.

  • Due to rapid socio-economic development and environmental changes, particularly autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in the context of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and high-functioning autism, has become a significant social issue. This issue is increasingly recognized from a societal perspective rather than just an individual or family problem. But there remains a lack of information in frontline education. Traditionally, treatment for ASD has been conducted in specialized institutions, or by professional doctors, therapists, and counselors. There are still several challenges such as 1) accessibility to hospitals and transportation for children with ASD, 2) the maturity and competence of therapists, and 3) the lack of appropriate educational content. To solve these problems, we propose a supplementary 3D educational game process for children with high-functioning autism that utilize speech recognition technology and games designed for continuous and repetitive learning. Our proposed game content can be used at home, which incorporates Speech-To-Text (STT) technology and mini-games to help children indirectly experience and learn to handle unexpected real-life situations. With this approach, we will expect that the children can develop social skills and enhance the efficiency of their treatment.

  • The science museum in the past satisfied visitors only by interacting them with simple objects and exhibition, while one in modern times was requested to meet the need of visitors in their engagement in educational programs. To meet the visitors' need, the science museum made efforts to train, educate, and assign docents so that they can interact with visitors and serve the educational purpose of visitation. In this study, we analyzed the strengths and weakness of docent training programs from science museums/science centers nationally and internationally, to make implication on how to design a docent training and professional program. Programs from four national and four international science centers/museums were selected as a sample for analysis. Their docent training programs were compared with the data of surveys and interviews and emails from docents and docent managers/evaluators. Artifacts and documents of the docent training programs were also collected and used to construct the validity in analyzing the data, resulting in the well-developed docent training program as the critical one for enriching science museum education. The results included; First, we need to recruit and train docents who interact visitors directly but they need to be differentiated from regular volunteers for promoting science museum education for the purpose of popularization of science. Additionally, Second, we need to develop and run docent training program where docents can experience 'informal learning' exhibition interpreting strategies through the real field from mentoring from the experienced/senior docents beyond 'formal learning' exhibition content. Third, we need to equip docents with skills to make scientific literacy possible at science museum-such as experiencing scientific ethics through scientific inquiry-which happens limited at school education.

  • This study objected books having been imported from China until the 7th century when unification was made among the three kingdoms together with distributed books by Korean nationals after compiling them, and clarified main characteristics by investing their whole pictures. The three kingdoms had imported books from China from the 5th century, and made them reflect to the enactment of laws and regulations, introduction of educational system, promotion of learning, international diplomacy, and national history compilation etc for settling down the ancient nation. And Buddhism having been transmitted to the Korean Peninsula in the late 4th century was nothing more than simple handing-down Buddhist scriptures in early stage, but teaching and learning developed into levels of forming new sects after the 7th century when the complete collection of Buddhist Sutras was introduced, so the study paid attention to a fact that full-scale compilation of our collection literature was appearing. As the result of analyzing the phenomena of book distributions till the 7th century when the three kingdoms were unified in this way, transmitted books showed concentrating aspects to confusion and Buddhist literature mainly, and books having been compiled by Korean nationals themselves appeared high in history books of the three kingdoms and collection literatures of Buddhism, and also a fact was grasped such like Sohak books required for basic learning and professional ones on science fields were imported from other countries. Most books having been distributed in the three kingdoms at that time were imported from the 6th century really, so majority of them seemed to be supplied with manuscript forms. However, this study considered the possibility of using bamboo scriptures on history books such as Liugi(留記) and Seogi(書記) etc that had been compiled before the 5th century at the three kingdoms.
