  • These tests were conducted to get a device high strength concrete products in factory using admixtures for high strength concrete. The superplasticzer was used to compensate low slump of base concrete keeping its slump up about $6\pm1cm$. To examine the property for strength revelation of concrete using admixtures for high strength concrete, steam and standard curing were compared each other. Test results show that admixtures for high strength concrete is effective in steam curing and compressive strength 500kgf/$\textrm{cm}^2$ is obtained at one day, 650kgf/$\textrm{cm}^2$ at 28days as added to concrete at the ratio of 10-15%, and 740kgf/$\textrm{cm}^2$ at the ratio of 30%. Therefore admixtures for high strength concrete is effective in steam curing and make it possible to get high strength concrete using only steam curing not using autoclave curing.

  • A new compressive strength test specimen for linerboard and medium was developed, and tested for its agreement with conventional testing methods such as RCT and STFI. The new specimen enables compressive testing under the changing humidity and temperature. Experimental results showed that the new specimen gave equivalent compressive strengths as the other conventional methods at a constant temperature and humidity. We'll apply the methods under the cyclic humidity and temperature conditions.

  • Carbon-epoxy prepreg has been introduced in the forming of the upper and lower swash plates that control the pitch of rotor blade of unmanned helicopter because of its lightweight. Taguchi experimental method has been used by introducing the variables such as arrangement angle, laminated number and forming temperature, in order to obtain the proper forming method by using prepreg satisfying the required strength of the swash plate. In the evaluation of structural safety for the swash plates, three kinds of models are considered by using FE-analysis. In comparison of the hot forged products with Al6061-T6 and the formed products with prepreg, it was found that ultimate tensile strength of the products with prepreg is three times higher than that of the Al6061-T6, and the weight reduction of 68.5g can be achieved by using prepreg swash plates.

  • To compare and analyze technical system related to manufacturing of ironware during the period of the Three Kingdoms, an analysis was conducted on the minute system of metalwork, as study objects, of the remains of the Mt. Wolpyeong fortress wall in Daejeon in the period of capital during the era of the Three Kingdoms in the 5th century, the Sanwol-ri remains in the 6th century in Gunsan and the remains of ironware excavated from the great ancient tomb of Hwangnam of the Silla dynasty in the 5th century. The result of analysis shows that in the most of the casting products, the minute system of white cast iron were contained. While the iron part of decarbonization was in the system by casting as white cast iron in the central part, on the surface layer it was turned out that comparatively uniform 100% pearlite system of about 1~2mm degree was existing. The part of pearlite on the surface layer was caused by decarbonization, which appears in all the parts of blade front end and handle. Therefore, it was found that the iron part of decarbonization was manufactured by casting, and then was processed at the high temperature by decarbonization. For the products of forging, after processing the products on the basis of pure iron for materials, they manufactured the ironware that raises the strength by carbonizing that keeps carbon infiltrated on the necessary part, by the method of black smith welding that add pure iron to steel, or by varying the method of heat processing onto the part required of strength. Though limited, we could understand that the technical systems for manufacturing skill of ironware in the areas of Baekje and Silla were different each other. In the technical system for Hwangnam great ancient tomb in the Silla area, it is found that they had raised the strength on the necessary part by applying the steelmaking method of carbonizing in the last stage of production of products, in the meantime in Baekje area, it appears that they had produced steel in advance in the first stage of production of the products, and used the produced steel only to the necessary part.

  • To evaluate the efficiency of various cationic starches in improving retention drainage and strength properties of newsprints which are being made using extensive amount of domestic recycled wastepapers in a highly closed papermaking system diverse cationic starches have been prepared and tested. In the case of cationic starches with low charge density as the degree of substitution increas-es fines retention increased. Results also showed that the retention efficiency decreased sub-stantially for cationic starches with low DS when the conductivity of white water inceased. Tensile strength increased with the addition of cationic starches and then decreased. On the other hand internal bonding strength increased linearly with the addition of cationic starch. Oxidizing treatment of cationic starch was detrimental for retention and freeness improve-ment. Also crosslinking treatment of wet processed cationic starches made cationic starches less effective in retention and drainage.

  • Environmental issues about indoor air quality have been increased and focused on volatile organic compounds (VOCs) caused cancer, asthma, and skin disease. Reducing VOCs has been attempted in many different methods such as using environmentally friendly materials and air cleaner or purifier. Charcoal is well known material for absorbing VOCs. Therefore, carbonized board from medium density fiberboard has been developed. We assumed that the source of carbonized boards can be any type of wood-based panels. In this study, carbonized boards were manufactured from oriented strand board (OSB) at 400, 600, 800, and $1000^{\circ}C$. Each carbonized OSB (c-OSB) was evaluated and determined physiomechanical characteristics such as exterior defects, dimensional shrinkage, modulus of elasticity, and bending strength. No external defects were observed on c-OSBs at all carbonizing conditions. As carbonizing temperature increased, less porosity between carbonized wood fibers was observed by SEM analysis. The higher rate of dimensional shrinkage was observed on c-OSB at $1000^{\circ}C$ (66%) than c-OSB at 400, 600, and $800^{\circ}C$ (47%, 58%, and 63%, respectively). The densities of c-OSBs were lower than original OSB, but there was no significant different among the c-OSBs. The bending strength of c-OSB increased 1.58 MPa (c-OSB at $400^{\circ}C$) to 8.03 MPa (c-OSB at $1000^{\circ}C$) as carbonization temperature increased. Carbonization temperature above $800^{\circ}C$ yielded higher bonding strength than that of gypsum board (4.6 MPa). In conclusion, c-OSB may be used in sealing and wall for decorating purpose without additional artwork compare to c-MDF which has smooth surface.

  • Recently, ultra high strength products can be manufactured by the hot press forming process of Boron steel in automotive and electronics industries. In order to get high strength, the hot press forming should be accompanied by quenching process inducing phase transformation. There are several types of the hot press forming processes according to the quenching method, water quenching and die quenching, etc. In the study, the process was numerically and physically simulated to compare the two types of quenching processes, and then the strength, hardness and dimensions of the products were compared with try-outs.

  • This paper presents the fundamental study on rational manu(acture of Very High Strength(VHS) concrete using industrial by-products as like silica fume, slag and fly ash. In this study, we had tested various mixing cases to manufacture the VHS concrete(target compressive strength : over 1,000 kgf/$cm^{2}$) which is easily workable (target slump flow : 60$\pm$l0cm), The main variables studied are; 1) test variables to find the optimum replacement ratio of mineral admixture, 2) test variables to find a rational water-binder ratio, a proper binder content, 3) test variables to find the method for reduction of slump loss, 4) test variables to know the influence of air entrainment on frost resistance. From the test results, it is concluded that the rational mix design can be made by using 40% slag, 10% silica fume, and water reducing agent(slump loss reduction type). We found that it is unnecessary to entrain air for freeze-thawing resistance.

  • For the purpose of manufacturing water-resistant corrugated board boxes for agricultural products in the cold chain system, the effects of fiber types, wet strength agents and a moisture-proof chemical on the properties of the base papers were investigated first. PAE(polyamide amine epichlorohydrin) showed better performance than MF(melamine formalde-hyde) over broad stock pH ranges, which was prefered as wet strength agent for the paper grade. When short fibers(AOCC, KOCC) were mixed with long fiber(UKP) in certain ratios, some physical properties of the paper made with mixed fibers were similar to those of the paper made with UKP only. Paper containing AOCC showed the biggest increase in water resistance when PAE was added to the stock. Synergistic effects in moisture-proof and some mechanical properties of paper were appeared when PAR was added internally, together with the coating of a moisture proof chemical on the sheets.
