  • In many parts of the world, reinforced concrete (RC) buildings, designed and built in accordance with older codes, have suffered severe damage or even collapse as a result of recent near-fault earthquakes. This is particularly due to the deficiencies of most of the older (and even some of the recent) codes in dealing with near fault events. In this study, a tested three-storey frame designed for gravity loads only was selected to represent those deficient buildings. Nonlinear time history analyses were performed, followed by damage assessment procedures. The results were compared with experimental observation of the same frame showing a good match. Damage and fragility analyses of the frame subjected to 204 pulse-type motions were then performed using a selected damage model and inter-storey drifts. The results showed that the frame located in near-fault regions is extremely vulnerable to ground motions. The results also showed that the damage model better captures the damage distribution in the frame than inter-storey drifts. The first storey was identified as the most fragile and the inner columns of the first storey suffered most damage as indicated by the damage index. The findings would be helpful in the decision making process prior to the strengthening of buildings in near-fault regions.

  • A fault tolerant structure and its corresponding control strategy for electromagnetic stirring power supplies are proposed in this paper. The topology structure of the electromagnetic stirring power supply contains two-stages. The fore-stage is the PWM rectifier. The back-stage is the fault tolerant inverter, which is a two-phase three-bridge orthogonal inverter circuit while operating normally. When the power switch devices in the inverter are faulty, the structure of the inverter is reconfigured. The two-phase half bridge inverter circuit is constructed with the remaining power switch devices and DC-link capacitors to keep the system operating after cutting the faulty power switch devices from the system. The corresponding control strategy is proposed to let the system work under both normal and fault conditions. The reliability of the system is improved and the requirement of the electromagnetic stirring process is met. Finally, simulation and experimental results verify the feasibility of the proposed fault tolerant structure and corresponding control strategy.

  • Fault diagnosis and condition monitoring for rotating machines are important for efficiency and accident prevention. The process of fault diagnosis is to extract the feature of signals and to classify each state. Conventionally, fault diagnosis has been developed by combining signal processing techniques for spectral analysis and pattern recognition, however these methods are not able to diagnose correctly for certain rotating machines and some faulty phenomena. In this paper, we add a minimum detection error algorithm to the previous method to reduce detection error rate. Vibration signals of the induction motor are measured and divided into subband signals. Each subband signal is processed to obtain the RMS, standard deviation and the statistic data for constructing the feature extraction vectors. We make a study of the fault diagnosis system that the feature extraction vectors are applied to K-means clustering algorithm and minimum detection error algorithm.

  • Temperature is a critical parameter in yield improvement for wafer manufacturing. In chemical vapor deposition (CVD) equipment, crack defect in ceramic heater leads to yield reduction, however, there is no suitable ceramic heater fault detection system for conventional CVD equipment. This paper proposes a short-time zero-crossing rate based fault detection method for the ceramic heater in CVD equipment. The proposed method measures the output signal ($V_{pp}$) of RF filter and extracts the zero-crossing rate (ZCR) as feature vector. The extracted feature vectors have a discriminant power and Gaussian mixture model (GMM) based fault detection method can detect fault in ceramic heater. Experimental results, carried out by measured signals provided by a CVD equipment manufacturer, indicate that the proposed method detects effectively faults in various process conditions.

  • In order to solve the problem of low tracking accuracy caused by complex noise in the fault diagnosis of complex nonlinear system, a fault diagnosis method of high precision cost reference particle filter (CRPF) is proposed. By optimizing the low confidence particles to replace the resampling process, this paper improved the problem of sample impoverishment caused by the sample updating based on risk and cost of CRPF algorithm. This paper attempts to improve the accuracy of state estimation from the essential level of obtaining samples. Then, we study the correlation between the current observation value and the prior state. By adjusting the density variance of state transitions adaptively, the adaptive ability of the algorithm to the complex noises can be enhanced, which is expected to improve the accuracy of fault state tracking. Through the simulation analysis of a fuel unit fault diagnosis, the results show that the accuracy of the algorithm has been improved obviously under the background of complex noise.

  • Fault tree construction for hazard assessment requires so much time and labor, so it is very difficult to be applied to the large scale chemical plant. For the synthesis of fault tree in chemical processes, this study represents the cause-effect relations between process variables by using the Signed Directed Graph(SDG), and has synthesized Fault Tree(FT) by searching the causes of fault events using the general operator and loop operators defined corresponding to path characteristics on the SDG.

  • Since an attacker can occur an error in cryptographic device during encryption process and extract secret key, the fault injection attack has become a serious threat in chip security. In this paper, we show that an attacker can retrieve the 128-bits secret key using fault injection attack on the for statement of final round key addition in AES implementation. To verify possibility of our proposal, we implement the AES system on ATmega128 microcontroller and try to inject a fault using laser beam. As a result, we can extract 128-bits secret key through just one success of fault injection.

  • Software reliability in the software development process is an important issue. Infinite failure NHPP software reliability models presented in the literature exhibit either constant, monotonic increasing or monotonic decreasing failure occurrence rates per fault. In this paper, reliability software cost model considering logarithmic and exponential fault detection rate based on observations from the process of software product testing was studied. Adding new fault probability using the Goel-Okumoto model that is widely used in the field of reliability problems presented. When correcting or modifying the software, finite failure non-homogeneous Poisson process model. For analysis of software reliability model considering the time-dependent fault detection rate, the parameters estimation using maximum likelihood estimation of inter-failure time data was made. The logarithmic and exponential fault detection model is also efficient in terms of reliability because it (the coefficient of determination is 80% or more) in the field of the conventional model can be used as an alternative could be confirmed. From this paper, the software developers have to consider life distribution by prior knowledge of the software to identify failure modes which can be able to help.

  • In this paper, we have defined the rules and the algorithm for diagnosis and recovery of routing configuration fault on a system. By using them, we have implemented the Java-based system that can manage routing configuration fault automatically. To manage routing configuration fault, the production rule for network configuration management, the production rule for routing configuration fault diagnosis, and the production rule for routing configuration fault recovery have been proposed. Rule-based routing configuration fault management system has been implemented on the basis of backward chaining algorithm and applied for meta rules for the purpose of interconnecting the production rules. We have derived the experimental result from transition process of the rules, the Blackboard, the goals based on scenarios. Through the implementation of dynamically applicable system in heterogeneous and rapidly changing network environments, we have proposed the methodology for network configuration fault management. Also, we expect that network configuration manager can reduce time and cost wasted for routing configuration fault management.

FDA is an agent that detects an fault by hooking techniques for multimedia distance education based on IP-USN environment. FSA is an agent that is an fault sharing system for multimedia distance education based on IP-USN environment. FRA is a system that is suitable for recovering software fault for multimedia distance education running on home network environment based on IP-USN. It is necessary for the system to be protected by reactivity of media service instance instead of breaking process of session. This system is limited only for FRA modeling.
