  • ITS (Intelligent Transport System) has been developed into the full service leading to a new life style with the various services from private sector, which was intended to prevent the traffic accidents and to reduce the traffic jams. Since traveler-type components used in ITS services are not exclusively designed. but they can be one of the existing devices such as mobile phone, PDA, PC, KIOSK and etc. We need to consider that these devices are equipped to support ITS related services. Therefore, this study modeled, through UML, a framework of portable components based on the present national ITS architecture; the purpose being that private companies may be able to develop portable components with concepts of ITS services. The methodology of the modeling process we followed consisted of four steps: (1) analyzing service-related subsystems, (2) generalizing equipment-package and functional specifications. (3) describing information and function specific reference models, and (4) UML modeling of the reference model.

  • Through-the-thickness properties of thick-walled cylindrical composites are required to determine structural performances because interlaminar tensile stress is primarily responsible for structural failure of the composites during their curing process. It is necessary for evaluating the tensile properties to find individual test methods to find appropriate methods because there are no recognised international standards(test methods and test specifications) available for generating reliable tensile properties in the direction. This paper has performed an experimental study to measure that properties of carbon fabric/phenolic composites which are produced by domestic company. Several test methods using an aluminum specimen were compared and evaluated. The best test method to measure transverse through-the-thickness properties of composite materials was developed by the experimental results that strain trends on all faces of composite specimen are the same.

  • With the development of industrial technology and science, production and manufacturing facilities have been enhanced and improved, and the importance of the safety of workers has also been regulated and limited by various safety management methods. As a way to secure the safety of the workers from the production facility, the fail-safe and fool-proof methods are now being applied. Any possible insecure behavior and unsafe conditions can be removed by adopting the standards and specifications that are now secure the safety of workers and equipment. This research analyzes EN ISO 13849-1 international and European standards during CE certification. In order to secure acceptable reduced risks, the risk assessment process of ISO 12100 and the processes for reducing its risk are applied. In the current ISO 13849-1 standard, the criteria for the required performance level PLr (Required Performance Level) for the applicable risk and safety functions through the risk assessment are subjective and not subdivided. Therefore, the evaluation criteria are likely to cause judge's judgement error due to qualitative judgement. This research focuses on evaluation and acceptable performance level setting for the safety circuit of the equipment. We propose an objective and specific evaluation criteria to secure safety, and the proposed evaluation criteria are applied to the case study of the safety circuit for the equipment. In order to secure the safety of the entire safety circuit, the improvement of the MTTFd and DC level related to the SRP/CS (Safety-Related Parts of Control Systems)' lifetime is required for the future research.

  • Recently, Intelligent Excavating System(IES) for earthwork automation is on progress since the end of 2006 as a part of construction technology innovation projects in Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs. Task Planning System(TPS), one of the detail core technologies of IES, is an optimal work planning system in conditions of effectiveness, safety and economic efficiency by analyzing the work environment data based on earthwork design and work environment recognition technology. For effective earthwork planning, the location of platform must be the most optimal spot for minimization of time, maximization of productivity and reduction of overlapped work spaces and unnecessariness. Besides, the decision of optimal platform location is to be based on the specifications and then is able to be converted with the local area calculation algorithm. This study explains the decision of optimal platform location on the basis of local area from the work space separate process and judges the effectiveness.

  • We considered the authoritative representations of torpedo systems that was the engagement level model to develop system specifications and to analyze operational requirements on concept design phase. The Work Breakdown Structure(WBS) of models was defined about authoritative representations of the torpedo systems. The communication of information among each subsystems and input/output parameters were defined. In the heavy weight and light weight torpedo model, presetter, underwater maneuver, war head, sonar, guidance and control, propulsion subsystem modeling were developed for heavy-weight and the light-weight torpedo systems. The authoritative representations of torpedo systems have similar structures with those of the engineering level models and could be verified via engagement level simulations according to the V&V process in the future.

  • In this paper, we propose a digital controller design process for the interleaved type of a boost PFC (Power Factor Correction) converter which can disperse the heat of the switching devices due to the interleaved topology. We establish a mathematical model of a boost PFC converter and propose a controller design method based on the root locus. The performance of the designed controller is verified by simulations. The measurement of the input voltage, inductor currents, and the converter output link voltage are needed for the control of the converter system which consists of a power unit and a control unit where a high-performance 32-bit microcontroller is used. The adjustment of A/D conversion timing is also needed to avoid high frequency noise generated when the switches on/off. It is illustrated by the real experiments that the designed control system with the properly adjusted ADC timing satisfies the given performance specifications of the interleaved boost PFC converter in the on-board slow battery charger.

  • Small-area, low-power coarse and fine frequency detectors (FDs) are proposed for an adaptive bandwidth referenceless CDR with a wide range of input data rate. The coarse FD implemented with two flip-flops eliminates harmonic locking as long as the initial frequency of the CDR is lower than the target frequency. The fine FD samples the incoming input data by using half-rate four phase clocks, while the conventional rotational FD samples the full-rate clock signal by the incoming input data. The fine FD uses only a half number of flip-flops compared to the rotational FD by sharing the sampling and retiming circuitry with PLL. The proposed CDR chip in a 65-nm CMOS process satisfies the jitter tolerance specifications of both USB 3.0 and USB 3.1. The proposed CDR works in the range of input data rate; 2 Gb/s ~ 8 Gb/s at 1.2 V, 4 Gb/s ~ 11 Gb/s at 1.5 V. It consumes 26 mW at 5 Gb/s and 1.2 V, and 41 mW at 10 Gb/s and 1.5 V. The measured phase noise was -97.76 dBc/Hz at the 1 MHz frequency offset from the center frequency of 2.5 GHz. The measured rms jitter was 5.0 ps at 5 Gb/s and 4.5 ps at 10 Gb/s.

  • A catadioptric omnidirectional zoom optical system using a hybrid lens (COZOSH) that performs simultaneously two functions of a lens and a mirror was designed at the visible wavelength range for daytime unmanned surveillance, and its performance was analyzed. The hybrid lens has lots of advantages in terms of fabrication and assembly of a COZOSH, because of the obviation of a lens boring process and reduction of the number of optical components. Additionally, we designed the COZOSH to expand the compressed inner-image region of a donut image at low spatial frequencies. As a result, the optimized design performance of the optical system that satisfies all initial design specifications was obtained from calculation of the modulation transfer function, spot diagram, and tolerance analysis. We confirmed that the COZOSH is a passively athermalized optical system under conditions of temperature variation from -30℃ to 50℃, by using athermalization analysis during zooming.

  • Free fatty acids are not esterified by alkaline catalyst transesterification. They are detrimental to the quality specifications in biodiesel. Therefore, we tried to find solid catalyst to remove free fatty acids in feedstock. Amberlyst 15 resin was selected as the best catalyst, and the moisture content containing in the resin was found to be important for the reaction. The removal efficiency of free fatty acids was gradually decreased from 97% to 70% by ten times reuse of resin. In the transesterificaion reaction by KOH catalyst, soap formation could be decreased by 58.3% using the feedstock pretreated by resin. Consequently, the purity of biodiesel was enhanced about 10%, as compared with the non-treated feedstock.

  • This study identifies various risk factors associated with activities of early construction stage, then establishes the Risk Breakdown Structure(RBS) by classifying the risks into the three groups; Common risks, risks for Earth works, and risks for Foundation works. The Common risks are identified and classified by considering various aspects of the early construction stage such as financial, political, constructional aspects, etc. The risks for Earth works and Foundation works are identified in detail by surveying technical specifications, relevant claim cases and interviewing with experts. These risks are classified based on the Wok Breakdown Structure(WBS) of the early construction stage. The WBS presented in this study classifies the works of early construction stage into four categories; excavation, sheeting works, foundation works, footing works. This study suggests a risk analysis method using fuzzy theory for construction projects. Construction risks are generally evaluated as vague linguistic value by subjective decision making. Fuzzy theory is a proper method to quantify vague conditions of construction activities. Therefore, this study utilizes fuzzy theory to analyse construction risks. The weight of risks is estimated by reflecting the interrelationship among risk factors from absolute weights obtained by fuzzy measure into the relative weights by Analytical Hierarchy Process(AHP). The interrelationship is estimated by Sugeno-fuzzy measure.
